My (slooooooowly developing) Guard force is an armoured recon concept using the Grenadiers option from the Current Codex. Moving into the new Codex and I was thinking of expanding the infantry side a bit for garrison duty on objectives, but I didn't want to lose the advanced feel I get from the Kasrkin models and my Predator turretted vehicles.

After a number of other posts indicated Pig Iron's heads I had a gander myself. Unlike most of the other people about I wasn't so much taken by the Militia heads as the heavy armour ones.

A quick test comparison between the standard HA head and the normal GW heads below. My main concern is that the head might look a little small, even though its the same approximate size as the normal Guard heads. So view this post as a means of helping me voice my concerns to myself, as well as checking out others opinions

Looks right to me, though painted it may come across differently.

Personally, I think all of the Pig Iron Heavy Infantry helmets are too small on the Cadians - yet, for some reason, all of the Pig Iron Kolony heads seem just the right size. Just my personal taste, though.

Right now I have 59 men built with these heads and plan on having 60+ more like this, and only one is painted and its not even done yet.

@gunsniper24X - Thanks for that. I was wondering what it would look like en mass. They might be a tad small but I think they will look fine painted. The models have such weird proportions anyway that I'm sure 1 more won't matter

@deadly chicken - Guard as Tau auxiliaries, probably

I tried to use those same heads, but I felt hey were too small. I ended up using the gas masks and I love it. The Kolony line has more variety now with the command and NPC sprue and I really love it. Unless you love the visor, id suggest the other heads

I think that metal head looks fine in the pictures. I actually really like the look of your army and that predator turret with the Abrams style barrel looks really awesome.

I'd love to get a look at these heads. Can you guys post links to a site I can get them at?

Thanks for the comment

Pig Iron site is here. The heads in question are the Heavy Infantry Mixed Head Sprue. They also do other heads which are quite popular on these boards (particularly the Kolony Militia ones for greatcoat Guard).

They look good.
I've used other Pig Iron helmets on my Inquisition storm troopers (instead of boring cadian).

I know other people who've put those same visored helmets onto their SM scouts.

It's not that the helmets are too small. It's that ALL GW minis are hydrocephalic without a brainbucket to compress them.

Another possibility for my Mech'ed Guard.

Bullpups!

Picked up some of these (HFL019) to play about with. It turns out that hacking away the arm to make the gun fit was less than useful, while just cutting the magazine off worked a lot better

My only problem with bullpups is that by their very nature the magazine is hidden by the users arm and therefore some of the impact is lost, however I do rather like the gun proportions with the Pig Iron head swap.

Okay that conversion looks absolutely nuts awesome. Very Halo 3. Did that gun come from Pig Iron as well?

You also might want to try what I do. I put the Cadian torsos on the Catachan legs. It gives a tighter feel to the miniature as the Cadian legs look too much like robes. Don't get me wrong, I like the Cadian legs, but the Catachan legs have less flowing cloth on them and therefore have a more stark feel.

Thanks

The Haloness hadn't occurred to me... not my intention but not something that bothers me. Regarding the legs, while I don't mind fiddling with details and additional extras I'd really rather not buy twice as many models as necessary

The rifle is from Hasslefree Miniatures and is linked from my previous post.

Yeah it does get expensive. I got most of my legs through trades with friends... etc... I also picked up a box of Cadians and a box of Catachans while they were still boxes of 20. I missed that link earlier, but wow that's a great website. I hope they deliver to the states...

Heh, thanks. The original concept for the force was a mechanised Kasrkin grenadier force with minimum troops. With the new codex coming out I thought it might be a good idea to have some more supporting infantry (so cheap, so very cheap) but I wanted them to fit into a look that I feel is a bit more advanced than the normal Cadians.

The force overall will have a couple of Russes, some mortar support, sentinels and mechanised Kasrkin. The modded Cadians will probably end up acting as a garrison force for my objectives.

And after a weekend of fiddling here is a platoon command squad with 2x GLs, Lieutenant and Command Vox. The command vox will be bulkier than the squad voxes, that will be based on Kasrkin backpack (Company command squad will also have a big one).

Also have a sniper for one of my infantry squads and a random flamer guy that I may never actually use but he was lying about mostly completed and just needed the head swap

Command squad is just awaiting a medic of some kind to be completed (well, and painting, obviously).

I guess it all depends on how you like you models to look. I personally don't like Pig Iron heads.
The models look very space age, and i guess thats what your going for.
I really like my Guard to look as down to earth as possible.

But, yours look good too.

Command squad looks pretty cool... I especially like the way the one guy is gripping his GL from the side. Nicely done...
