I am semi-interested in mounting some vostroyans in chimeras. Unfortunately I hate the chimera model, and it costs $35 to boot.
I realize that there might not be a good alternative model to the chimera to use, but I thought I'd just throw the question out there. Any ideas?

There are q few different approaches you can take
First is to scratch build your own. This can be tricky and a little daunting if you don't have any experience. But can lead to come great results.
Next is non GW. I really like Old Crow http://www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/index.htm. Most of their stuff would fit in well with 40K IMHO.
Conversion is another way to go. What do you not like about the current GW models? Turret, weapons, etc? I've seen a predator turret on a chimera, chimera changed to wheeled, and even using predator parts into a Leman Russ (see link below!)

Those are some cool conversions. I don't like the turret of the chimera mostly, if I ended up using them I would most likely convert it to a "backwards" style, with the turret in back. I would probably also use a predator or razorback turret for the chimera's turret as I hate the flat look of it.

Check out the Old Crow too though. They have some turret designs you might like.
