Hello all. I want to know as the title says how many warhammer players play other table top games and what? I don’t have much of an idea as to what’s out there in the world of games so I just want to see what else there is and anything you could recommend.
Thanks Andrew

Well, aside from too many 40K and WFB miniatures, I've also got INFINITY and SECRETS OF THE THIRD REICH armies in the process of getting table ready...

There's a massive amount of non GW games around. There are huge numbers of historical games in many periods ranging from Ancients to modern day.

Alkemy looks interesting, but I haven't researched it yet.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

If you're looking for new options it would be worth telling us something about your interests.

For example, do you prefer SF, Fantasy or Historical?
If Historical, any particular period -- WW2, ACW, Ancients, etc?
Skirmish, battle, or big battle?
Large figures (28mm) or small (6mm?)
Integrated games with fluff, rules and figures all from one company?
Land, sea, air, or space?

Warmachine is a fun game, I've always enjoyed it. It's steampunk, much as the purists and company lapdogs hate that moniker. You have a war caster who is the center point of your force. The warcaster has infantry to support him, and warjacks. Warjacks are about 11 tons apiece, various methods of being powered but they all have smokestacks (of a refined and "cool" design) so they can all be conveniently thought of as steam powered. It's an IGOUGO format, which is a bit of a downer but honestly all my favorite games are. For a look at the rules go to www.privateerpress.com, it's worth a cruise over.

Honestly, one thing that will factor into your game selection is what's being played in your area. No opponents=no games. Take a look around.

Blood Bowl and Aeronautica Imperialis. I highly recommend Blood Bowl as its easier to get people into as you only have to get a board and maybe another team if you don't like Orcs or Humans, and also its American football, and that appeals to some of the non-gamer types.

I've never played blood bowl, and never will. Mostly because my area has large enough pool of people in it to support a yearly BloodBowl Season, and from what I hear from everyone and what I see it causes a ridiculous amount of butt-soreness. I see these guys that I regularly play 40k against, great people. Win or lose I have a great game against them. But sit these sames guys, together again for bloodbowl, and they turn into stark raving ass masters that I could only want to beat to death with a hammer to save the world further harm. Every year. I hate that fething game, and I've never touched it.

But that's prob. just in my area.

I have heard theat Aeronautica Imperialis is a ridiculously fun game. Everything I have heard about the rules for it has been positive, and while I am sure the models are expensive because they are all forgeworld, everyone of them that I have seen is just gorgeous. the detail is nothing short of amazing. Check out www.forgeworld.co.uk and cruise for it. Stutter-inducing beauty.

Well if you count other GW games as alternative tabletop games, then add Necromunda, Warhammer Quest and Blood Bolw to my list.

BattleTech is the one non-GW game I play.

That must be just your area, because where I am all the silly crap that happens only encourages hilarious laughter.

Aeronautica is not as expensive as you might think, as you only need 10 ships max for a game. The books cost a pretty penny though, although the pictures alone were enough for me to buy it.

Other than 40k, I play:

Stargrunt II
Full Thrust
Infinity
Urban War

I don't and won't play any 'pure' fantasy game (so no WHFB, lotr, Wotr, etc) as the genre doesn't appeal to me. I was exposed to SF through military SF, so I like my games like that as well.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Hope you find some players of some of the below.
We usually play something Non-GW on Saturdays.

Games I have played in the last year.

GW games:
40k, Warhammer Fantasy, Mordheim, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, War of the Ring

Privateer Press:
Warmachine, Monsterpocalypse (giant monsters, great fun)

Mongoose:
Starship Troopers

Rackham:
AT-43 (Sci-fi, similar to 40k)

Battlefront:
Flames of War (WWII)

Osprey/Slytherine:
Field of Glory (from ancients to the Hundred Years War, but we usually play Punic Wars through 4th century AD)

Others that I do not know the company:
Shako (Napoleonic era), and at least 3 other rulesets that I do not remember the names of, all Napoleonic era.
Fire and Fury (I think, U.S. Civil War)
Nuts! (WWII skirmish from TwoHour Wargames)

Boardgames/ card games that use minis:
Descent, Doom (all from Fantasy Flight Games)
Battlelore (Days of Wonder)
Zombies! (Twilight Creations?)
Wings of War (WWI airplane dogfights, cards, but manuver like minis, very very fun. THere is a WWII version also)

Would like to try:
Secrets of the Third Reich, Incursion (from the same company)
Infinity
Urban War (Scifi, I loved Void, but nobody near me now ever played it)
Legends of the Old West (Cowboys!)
Legends of the High Seas (Pirates!)
Uncharted Seas (Fantasy Sea Battles)
Warhammer Historical
Pirates Card ship game

Full thrust is a spaceship game (like BFG, but with a superior vector based movement system). Easy to learn and has more pleasing models.

It's by Ground Zero Games. Like Stargrunt II and it's 6mm scaled Dirtside equivalent. OH AND IT'S FREE FOR DOWNLOAD from the Ground Zero Games website.

They're other tabletop games. The OP was what other TTG are played, not just what other GW TTG were played.

Unlike GW, GZG don't insist you only use their miniatures in their games. Naturally, they'd like you to, but you don't have to, and no TO would stop you here, either.
