My new Vendetta. Whatcha think?

It's my whole army theme. "Divine Dragons" There a Royal guard unit, hence no battle dammage.

Thanks for all the great comments and good ideas.

Oh, and in referance to the Teeth. It's cusom painted. it's not a decal. i know it's on a lot of them, but for good reason. it's intimidating. I'll post pics of my whole army in another post.

Very striking detta. As for battle wear and tear, I'm not overly convinced the kind of wearing that people have been giving to there valks is "right". They have been putting w + t more consistant with tanks after a long campaign, or some planes that I've seen in air museums ,that sit in the corner after the end of there service life ,and a period of neglect and are waiting to be done up for exhibiting. I did a quick search of RAF in iran which brought up some interesting pics ..
http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/pics/gulfwar/gwtornados2.htm I see a lot of dirt and bad painting, but not many dings and dents and bare metal. Which I good for me as dirt and bad painting are right in my ball park. My valk is on its way in the post, if it looks as good as Larotonda's I'll be happy . Oh , except for the black spray on the flying base which would have been a doh! moment,

Look up some A10s that have been on the receiving end of some AA fire.

definetly needs some battle marks. Use some silver around the plates to show damage or wear and tear.

I think its an excellent paint job. I would dispute that you neeeeeed to put battle damage on it, however I would say that some kind of flight wear would be appropriate. No need to show huge chunks blown out by AA fire, however a bit of weathering on the leading edges of wings and around the engine exhaust path would do wonders.

Kill tally markings might be something worth looking at after you play a few games with it and blow some stuff up! Also, some kind of carbon buildup around the turbine engines, as it's unlikely that in the grim darkness of the future there is a fuel that burns completely clean...otherwise the future probably wouldn't be so grim looking.

The base is also sweet, to boot.

I like it. Very clean painting with a characterful base. If the rest of your IG looks like this, I'm betting you have a fantastic looking army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

I'm doing this with my Vulture. Putting kill marks on it only when it accually gets a kill. Only has one for a Fire Prisum so far. It adds character to the model.

It looks great. I say leave it. Not every aircraft has wear. It could be a new vehicle, replacment for combat loss as has yet to see much action. A friend adds wear to cover nicks his tanks get from play and transport.

Some things look good with battle damage, some dont. I love the super rust I put on my Orks, some dont. Its a preference thing really. It looks really nice, and the IG and terrain under it is a very nice touch

I love it!

And as has been noted, it could have just flown out the hanger on its maiden voyage, so, if you don't want to weather/damage it, don't!

Awesome stuff!

I like it alot , if you dont like battale damage , then dont add it. Or if you must to satisfy the nay sayers , just add some exhaust engine burns ( er is that what its called? ) and some oil leaking streaks or something.

Not too sure about the base though , its sort of taking the focus away from the vendetta , and without direct relation its even more distracting . a blown up tank would serve better i think.

Well take a look at some B17s after a visit to germany http://www.daveswarbirds.com/b-17/fuselag2.htm But if they had any damage they would head for home a.s.a.p and when they did someone would fix it, or scrap the plane. THough it would be nice to have a valk with an engine on fire .

... not to quibble, but this is the... 8th Valkyrie or variant I've seen with the shark mouth... is this a decal that comes with the new kit or something?

It's iconic nose art from World War 2 fighters and has been continued in use. Military fighters still often have nose art painted on them and the IG resembles modern military enough that there's really no reason this should be different. The shark mouth is simply among the most popular of the commonly known nose art designs so it stands to reason that it will end up among the most popular designs painted on the Valkyrie. I don't remember seeing any shark mouth decals on the sheet, but I wasn't looking for it either.

I'm familiar with Chennault's 1st American Volunteer Group. I'm just surprised that so many people seem to use ol' sharky. I'm thinking more along the lines of bomber nose art with Invasion Stripes for Valks and Marauders, with brighter JG-1 or 103rd Aero style markings on fighters as I work my way through my various 40k vehicle projects...
