40K and WHFB Fluff For Nutters are now ‘just’ 40K and WHFB Background

So, a bit of a sea change for the Dakka Background Forums…

“Why?” some may ask?

Well, the background forums have become home to a good number of ‘silly’ threads as of late.

Now I know that in a ‘game of toy soldiers’, many would think that trying to have a ‘serious discussion’ about the background of a fictional universe is in itself rather silly, but we’d like Dakka Dakka to be a place where, for lack of a better term, serious discussions on the background of 40K and WFB can take place.

Ultimately, we’d love for Dakka to be ‘the’ place to come for background questions and discussions. Sure there are lots of other places to go for information, but there's something to be said for being able to ask questions, generate discussion, speculate, etc.

So what does this all mean? Well, it may be a bit of a reach to say that we're going to have a striking change, or a major transformation, but I do feel that this will be for the better!

Basically, threads that are obviously ‘silly’ in nature will be moved to the appropriate General Discussions Forum. Mods will basically be making the call on what constitutes an overtly ‘silly’ thread, and users are also encouraged to use the 'notify moderator' button to help with this as well.

We appreciate your help with this ‘new’ direction, and look forward to improving the overall experience for everyone who visits Dakka Dakka.

i miss fluff for nutters

Well it's about time.

Just to clarify, this isn't so much a 'new direction' for these forums, but rather a clarification of the original intent.

These forums were created in order to discuss the background material of these games which is commonly known as "fluff". There is an old snack called 'Fluff N Nutters' so when the forums were created they were named 'Fluff for Nutters' as a little in-joke nod to that old snack.

Unfortunately that joke goes right over the head of anyone who has never heard of that snack and, of course, the term 'nutter' is pretty commonly used in countries outside of the US.

Because of that, the 'theme' of these forums got misconstrued and people started using them more of a way to randomly post spam messages rather than actually using the forum for its purpose: To discuss the background of the game.


Changing the names of the forums is simply a way to clarify what these forums were always intended to be used for.

Ok, I agree whole heartedly that humour or non-serious threads should be kept seperate from the background forum for the intent of keeping it clean and serious for those that want sensible discussion.

But seriously? moved to the "Off Topic" forum?? They might be funny, silly or even strange, but they are regarding the 40K universe. May I ask the reasoning behind this choice?

@Gwar. I hope you have your Zombie plan ready, just in case.

Currently, the reasoning is that there really isn't a 'better' place for them to go, and fragmenting the 'background' forums into "Serious Background" and "Silly Background" probably isn't the right way to go either.

This is sort of a 'fast' solution to something that was rapidly becoming a problem.

If it turns out to cause more problems than it solves, we'll certainly revisit it.

And, corpsesarefun, I think I've been a Mod for about 2 months now?

Is that really true? That doesn't even make sense. Talk about an in-joke. I always assumed (and treated it) to have meant Fluff, for the crazy people who delve into it-the Nutters!. I guess that was a bit of editorializing I was doing in my head.
