Hi Spartan

They look good - especially for 13.

Are you keen to do more work on painting or do you prefer playing?

A simple suggestion for painting your tanks - to get crisp lines painting on those camo patterns, put down some magic tape (the translucent sticky tape that peels off easily). This will give you crisp lines on the vehicles.

Some extra prep time on the figures would also be good - such as drilling out the barrels and ensuring mold lines are removed. If you don't have a drill, you can get a similar effect by putting the tip of your hobby knife in the end of the gun (in the centre) and rotate it (but don't press too hard or you will snap off the tip).

Good stuff and it's an army to be proud of.

Thank you. I really like both playing and gaming. Your right about the mold lines and
the barrels. I started drilling out my barrels a few days ago i will post pics soon.

you've got some nice detailed painting there ans i can see that your trying to add some depth on those loincloths. but i think if you painted them flat then gave them a wash it would look sooo much better. I have only just learnt this but go down to your lgs or anywhere that sells citadel paint, and buy a box set of citadel foundation washes. they are amazing. good start though and i really like the scheme.

Only one thing from me: on the loincloths, try and tone down the highlights a bit. Use a darker highlight colour or a lighter basecoat, as atm it looks like you painted black and highlighted white. Overall though, it's a nice army to be proud of.

I know. I'm evil.
I saw weird stuff in that place last night. Weird, strange, sick, twisted, eerie, godless, evil stuff. And I want in.

To experiment, you can create a wash simply by mixing regular citadel paint with water. This settles more deeply into the crevices and gives you depth areas of detail (especially on highly textured surfaces such as fur etc).

The citadel washes are excellent, but you can do a very good job with regular paint washes as well.

Cheers

Solid work on the details, clean lines overall. A good start, agree with the comments re shading, and trying out some washes.

Check out some of the other armies in the gallery, and if you see something you like, comment and/or ask a question directly of the painter as to how they did it.

Keep up the good work and the progress.

I think you need more models holding things up in the air.
You don't seem to have enough

In my Eldar force, I literally have one model in every unit pointing. The Eldar love pointing. Rude bastards.

Great painting though dude, wierdly enough my first SM paint scheme looked like that.
Great Captain, too. You rock! Keep it up and one day you'll be the next LBursley!

its not often you see a camo scheme for marines. but i do like it. i think your painting is sharp and all you can do is get better the more you do.
Enjoy the hobby dude, its why we are all here.

Yeah they stink.

Just kidding . Doing better than me at your age kiddo . Continue to paint and you'll continue to get better. Here's a few tips, take them as you need them.

1. Water paints down. Try to do certain surfaces in layers for smoother look (tedious but worth it).
2. Buy some of the citadel watches and mess around with there applications on different colors. Here's a few good combos: Bleach and Devlan mud, Gold and Devlan Mud/Badab Black, White and Badab Black, Any yellow with Gryphonne (might require few washes).
3. Try using use two-tone highlights to start with, then work up more layers to get better blended looks, ie, base color dark grey, layered with progressively lighter layers of grey (maybe even white for extreme layers and depth look).
4. Look at this:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1030007&prodId=prod1290009&rootCatGameStyle=paints-tools
There are few times GW impresses me, and this book is pretty good.

Good luck and keep painting.

Painting
Dry brush: Some but not enough
Shading: None. If it’s hard to shade then dry brush.

Base: Not much to them and they don’t stand out.

Extras: You have tried some camo on the vehicles but again you must shade them. You have too many solid colors.

Concept: Not sure where you are going with the dwarves. There are no dwarves in the 40k universe.

Overall: D+

Either practice with your shading or get really good at dry brushing models. The army does look like a Space Marine Army so that is good. I think you should lose the dwarves. Scouts are supposed to be Space Marines in training. So as you can see only humans are allowed into that rank.

Shading example
Dark Grey painted onto the wings of the chest piece.
Grey highlights on just the top part of the wings. (each wing and on the top part)
Light Grey lines on the top of the wings.

You should do this for all of your colors. Even your black armor should have shading on it.

For your white cloaks, try base-coloring them with a light grey rather than black. This will make the shading look more natural, instead of having it look like a bunch of black tiger stripes. Other than that, nice job!

I dunno...

Nobody has pointed out that in the OP, the photo titled 'Sniper Scout Front' clearly shows his back...

a bit odd that you didn't notice that IMO...

anyway, an idea for a chapter logo for you, take the DA logo and cut down the hilt of the sword to just a point, this leaves you with a simple, stylised bird! Suitable for the chapter name

Those are pretty good!

The black armor could use some highlighting on the edges, a simple dark grey drybrushing can do that pretty quickly.

I like them, though!
