Kona, HI

So I now find myself with a chunk of 40k Greenskins and a Planetary Empires campaign looming.
I have decided to try and make some progress on them and track it through this threadalation.

My friend here in Kanto, Roleplayer, has a thread for his army (Umies, pah! ) He seems to have a bit of
a perfection complex so his models get a lotta love. Check them out if you get a chance. I, on the other
hand, have a wad of figs so will not be painting anything to that standard. I play O&G for Fantasy as well and
have never gotten around to painting too many of them. I have a few different styles for painting greenskins
but I had to rethink them for these Orks (that is if I expect to ever finish any of them) I came across a fairly
simple way; Orkhide shade, Knarlock Green drybrushing and washing (still toying around with wash color and
order) This is quite easy as I am not trying to paint a developed musculature on hundreds of minis. The Ork
arms are so well defined (that reminds me that I need to go to the gym) that drybrushing is adequate. I will
have to work out which wash colors I like though. I am used to my Orks being a bit brighter so the Badab Black
washes left something to be desired, but Thrakka Green just doesn't seem to make enough shadow.

As far as Tribe, I have decided to go with the Bad Moons. I like the contrast between the green and yellow.
Painting yellow is something that I have never done in quantity (toyed with playing Iyanden before the foundation
color range came out but have up because yellow used to be a bitch to paint) Also, being able to kit out my dudes
with a load of bling is sweet (I need to practice making chains with greenstuff so I can give all of my Nobs club-worthy
chains) Play-style I think I actually prefer the Goffs (large foot mobs) but their design is black check. The only thing
more annoying than painting tons of models is hand-drawing checks on tons of models. So I will use a load of
black yellow and green footsloggin' playas. Although...the deff-roller conversion for the battle wagon does come
out soon...and I am foreseeing having trouble with the bunkers in planetstrike...ramming a bastion sounds cool!

The campaign that my friends and I want to begin is with the Planetary Empires expansion. I don't know anything
about the rules , but if the games are varied (and include Planetstrike games) I am going to have to collect a
wide range of models (which gets me wet)

I guess that is enough for now. Any other Greenskins give me a shout out if you have any advice.

Here is my workspace and evidence of why not to buy an iPhone for the camera in it

No, I am not new to painting. I have quite a few nicely painted models. There is just
no way that Orks can be given a lot of individual love and expect to get finished.

And as far as macro mode, I do not know if iPhones even have that, and if they do
I am unaware as to how to apply it.

A camera, what a novel idea. If I stopped spending all of my money on GW maybe I could!

Why the hell aren't the left arms for Missile launcher/ Big Shoota Meks included with the
loots/burnas box? There is only enough arms to make a kustom blasta.

Argh

About to eat your Avatar...

I am not familiar with the Iphone camera directly, but I have heard it is quite good. From the backgrounds (the focus ) in some of your pics I would say it can serve it's purpose just fine. Looking forward to seeing you spam images onto the Dakka galleries .

Welcome to Dakka Dakka.

Yeah, the photos are generally nice but just not for models.

So I tried painting Golden Yellow over the Iyanden Darksun and it still doesn't look too hot. It looks o.k. with a bit of distance but close up you can still clearly see where the paint didn't cover so well. Cursed light colors! It's a shame too because the Golden Yellow is sooo bright. Also I made the mistake of painting the chainmail on their weapons rather than drybrushing it so it looks like everything is chromed. The black wash helped, but it is still a bit bright for my tastes. I may revert back to my usual drybrush chainmail and then fleshwash or some similar brownish wash followed by a brigther silver highlight.

Their skin looks good though (and I am glad because the technique was quite simple and will save me a lot of time) Though I may mix something with the gretchin green for the highlighting, I would like them to be just a bit brighter. And I think I am just going to go with black for most of their clothes, with a light grey highlight. Maybe some brown on a few straps, pouches, etc.
