Hello All,

Can anyone suggest some nice complimentary colours to paint Tau other than the vomit brown/yellow combo in the codex, or point me to a relevant thread (I didn't see anything in the search), thank you.

I';ve always liked Tau with black clothing and VERY white armour with the brown guns. I've also seen some nicely painted ones with Khaki green armour and black cloathing and weps...

I had a small Tau Force, decided to not finish it, but i used Ice Blue, Skull White, and Mithril Silver... Sort of a snow scheme, however, it worked very well on my Hammerhead and Crisis Suit

Green scheme would look really good, and you could get some camo practice in.

I love the idea of a snow theme. Black clothing with white armor. Also, you can put either red or blue in the crevices of the gun or other details.

Check Lexicanum. They have tons of schemes.IIRC they would be found under "sept".

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

Tau use colours that work as ,if are not actually camoflage, then an overall colour that blends with theatre they are in. So what type of board do you normally use? Dessert , grassland , snow , city? Then broadly you could use yelloiw, green, white, grey for the above terrains.

Urban Warfare schemes for tau looks really good. Grey armour and red clothing looks really good

Thanks for the replies all. My board will eventually be grass when I get round to flocking it, at the moment it's just brown undercoat. I like the green camo idea and the grey and red. I bought some green camo paint and also some purple today so I'm going to have an experiment. Unfortunately I have visitors today so I may not get around to it for a day or so. I will post some pics when I get the chance during the week. I'll also have a look on Lexicanum.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

The Demo Flektam Tau I painted for my buddy (Which I should actually post up here! Heyoh!) Is in a 4-color Armour, 2-color cloth scheme and the Pulse Rifle was painted to look like a Spehss-AK (Though it came out more like a Dragunov ) The thing with Tau is, all the survaces are smooth on their armour, and there isn't a tonne of cloth. This makes camo easy for them.

Something like, say, DA Green base on the armour, with Bestial Brown or Scorched Earth Tigerstripes. Then for the cloth, something like a Camo Green base with maybe Snakebite Leather and Chaos Black "splotches" might look good.

Every one always chooses dark green for tau. I personally like a very dark grey for tau.

I did my demo in a Desert scheme. No green there. OP's going for a jungle/woodland theme. Grey wouldn't exactly be the best bet. Greens and browns are better suited, and aside from that it's good, if you're doing a 2-tone armour and cloth job, to have one dark and one light color to provide contrast and definition.

I went for an urban/mountain camo. I find camo schemes are quite forgiving to paint as well as looking neat on the field. If you can come up with one that uses spray undercoat as a base colour so much the better

Love the Medic slacking off while the rest of the Fishcamels are busy fighting

The camo scheme looks really nice too, looks like a softened Phillipenes(?) Digital pattern

Heh. The guy sitting down is a wounded Crisis Suit pilot that the others are there to medevac. I mashed up his arm a bit, but its a bit hard to see the blue blood stains

Flinty, those look great.

I saw this link on another thread...http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/fwp.php and came up with these two ideas.

What do you think?

I have an army of ultramarines and an army of orks. The Ultras are blue, obviously and the orks are green with brown, yellow and orange so I want a distinguishing colour hence leaning toward purple (or red). Opinions very welcome.

Thanks

I think the second scheme has more pop. Also basic black fatigues is so ubiquitous that everyone can relate to it. However these are aliens, so who can say what they would prefer

I paint my small Tau force with a dark green base with some random stipples of lighter green, with metallic areas all painted red-gold (IE: Brazen brass + Dwarf bronze + Shining Gold + Gryphonne Sepia).

This is Daemonic Cheese:

1000 Pts (And growing)

I'd put a quote here, but XKCD would have a better one.

Red-gold sounds interesting. How do you mix your paints and in what quantities?

I like the second one. Are the armour plates all the same color?

I'd try the green parts on the rifle and armour as the same primary color

To me Tau kind of scream "urban camo or even digital camo (the latter being alot harder to do freehand).
