I have been meaning for a while to put a bunch of the old Necromunda bulkheads and platic gothic building sprues to use that i have kicking around.
With the release of Planetstrike I was motivated to use them to build some modular wall/fortress pieces that could be used to create a line of impassable terrain to use for drop zone denial of a back edge that one could arrange one's fortifications against, or set the scene for a focused battle on a gateway, etc.
Also being able to represent the walls of a city/compound, etc. was something I have wanted to build for a while. With those goals in mind I have been messing around with designign some kit-bashed pieces along these lines:
Inside has a ledge big enough for 40mm bases to stand:
gate tower pieces (still wip) can mount automated defense guns on roof(shown) and have doors that line up to interior ledge:
These are still very much WIP, but the basic idea is taking form. With the two wall sections and the towers I can make 6' of wall with a centered gateway. I have plans to kit-bash a towering bastion/fortification type building that can go in the opening to represent a fortified structure as opposed to a gate. I'm thinking of basing it off of some of the bastion components mixed with the Shrine of the Aquila.
I left the tabs on the top of the sprues for now as I'm thinking of making an attachable angled roof top piece to give the illusion of it being a building/fortification and I may want to use them to attach it.

Nice. I might add a few more buttresses on the front to break up the flatness of the wall and to give a better feeling of strength.
What are the foundations made from?

I like that people are building these fortifications because of Planetstrike.
Those walls and towers look really nice. Well done.

Indeed, where did you get those towers and wall sections and for how much? I've never seen them before and I visit GW Edmonton or GW Victoria at least once every year. Very cool stuff

As I stated all these pieces are kit-bashed from various GW terrain components, The wall sections are the GW Necromunda bulkheads:
The towers are made from the current GW building kits.
The stone sections are plastic bricks used in model train layouts that I got a bunch of on the cheap at a sale at a local train store.
Here is a shot with a fig to show scale:

Very cool. Not sure how easily I'll be able to get any of those bulkheads, which is a shame because they look great. Good idea on the retaining walls from train sets. Consider that idea "borrowed" Now, if I can find another train shop around here. (Last one I knew of closed down a while ago )

Another great idea there! My suggestion is to make it magnetized or sectioned so that you can run missions where you can blast away walls...
