Defending Guardian Defender

Here's my winning entry for the Fair Oaks GW store "Iron Stronghold" contest.
I have a step-by-step of the creation of it up here:
http://valleydweller.com/minis/stronghold_web/
It's roughly 50 hrs of work, and around $175 in materials cost to me, in what I used (have bastion bits left over, pad was prize for valk painting competition, only half of hardboard and 1/4 of foam sheets, etc).
Theme behind it is that it's an Ordo Malleus base, built into an Eldar ruin.
My main goal, being a cheapskate, was to make sure that all of the major pieces were modular. This thing can be easily disassembled and turn into 7 or so freestanding terrain elements.
I need to get a final pic with all the guns in place, etc.
Hope you enjoy the progress page.

That is amazing. I love it.
I was going to build something similar for my Grey Knights and inducted guard... but now? It'll just look so trivial in comparison.
Thanks for some great ideas, I am going back to the drawing board.
Perhaps GenCon will yield enough good bitz finds that I can make it work.

Thanks... yeah, my guard/marines/malleus are all basically painted/themed in a similar manner. Started with the Valkyrie that I put inquisitorial decals onto.
I'll be leaving for Indy tomorrow morning, working the Mythic booth, playing some Shadowfist and checking out the FFG Warhammer / Dark Heresy stuff.

Looks really great. I've been trying to think of a way to incorporate a landing pad, maybe even 2. If I do end up building one, I will probably be stealing your idea

( especially the axe and such ) It's the tabletop room we recently got installed at the Mythic office. edit: hmm... twitpic doesn't like linking inline, here's the URL for another pic i just uploaded: http://twitpic.com/divpu The walls were repainted and we hung the panels from the E3 2006 Warhammer Online up since they were just mothballed on another floor. Really happy with how it turned out. Ikea Billy bookcases with clear doors and all. 2 painting stations. Oh, and if you think mine is crazy... you guys need to check out the GW insanity... partly inspired by the following links (re: putting buildings on the pad) http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=2900019a and here: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/blogPost.jsp?aId=3600008a of course i don't want to even begin to wonder how much that stuff would be at Retail Must be nice to just grab stuff from the warehouse hehe.

I'd love to see a picture of this when you've broken it apart into separate terrain pieces?

Thanks all, just got back from Gen Con. Had to pick up one of the MBA's Sci-Fi port-a-pottys while I was there

I'll try to get more pics of the finished pieces dismantled when I get home tonight.

here are some shots as requested of the disassembled pieces.
Also shot a turnaround intended for an animated gif, but apparently I'm only able to dump WMV or PDF at home. Will upload that tomorrow.
topdown shot of components:
lower angle: I decided to flip the one bunker section around so you can see what it looks like... I'll still need to cap that off such that it still fits under the pad for when I want to use it as a chunk in the middle of the table or something.
Accessories... guns, tree, etc.

That's the bestest ever. I want you to paint and model my Bastions. Find an excuse to spend a few weeks in the bay area. Automatically Appended Next Post: wait a sec, is that a Quad D-Cannon?

here's the turnaround (animated gif):
Ray, dunno... maybe Kubla or GDC or something if I can swing it.
and Yeah, that's a quad D-cannon
since I'm using normal interceptor guns on the rest of it, and don't have a missle silo, I think it's fine for an indomitable fort.
