Hi guys,

I decided I needed a manticore for my IG (prepping for a tourney in september). D3 S10 templates?. Yes please! Anyway, what's your opinion? I know the turret is smaller, but I reasoned that, since the manticore doesn't have transport capacity and doesn't carry additional ammo, a smaller turret would do fine. Also the FW one is ridiculously huge.

A bit bright, but here it is.

With some adjustments by the dakka gallery:

Side view with the missiles. I painted them grey and white, reasoning you don't want them to stand out against the clouds. The red ring is there because I wanted to break it up a bit. Plus it looks cool.

Rear view. I might drill out the exhausts if I have time before the tourney.

I need one pic showing the full antenna (made from plastic rod):

How to make it:

I used a chimera as a base (duh!).

Changes made: I moved the top bit with the turret ring further backward, shifting the weight and look of the vehicle; not the first time it's been done, but it's very effective. I then made a turret out of plasticard, adding some valkyrie bits to the front to make a targetting array. I used magnets on the sides and then made a simple frame to support the missiles. The missiles are the hellstrikes from the valk kit, but since I use a MRP valk and a vendetta, I had 4 left over... Some gubbins to tech the turret up, lots of rivets,, and presto, a manticore!

I plan on making autocannons for this baby as well, allowing it to be used as either a manticore or a hydra.

Its nice.

The only thing i may suggest to change is the targetting "radar" ( russ wheel ).
Looks somehow odd to me.

A hybrid Manticore/Hydra seems fine, so where to take the autocannons from?
The usual guard autocannons are too small and short.

Target locked,ready to fire

Very neat job. I think my only problem with it is the use of a road wheel for the scanner. It just looks too much like a wheel and not a radar. I would try to replace it with a Tau drone, or maybe a Tau shield generator. Something with a bit more curvature to it. Even a base might give a better scanner effect (millimetre wave radar or summat).

Otherwise, paintjob - simple but effective, modifications are well implemented and the details are great!

You could use Guard autocannon as the base and then extend the barrels using other products. I used the 50mm long Old Crow barrel set for my Hydras.

I don't know why, but the position of the missiles makes this tank look a whole lot more awesome! I can see them shooting off right now, pew, pew....

Anyway... good job!

Tthe track wheel for radar is something I have to admit I'm not entirely happy with, but it was the best I could come up with while building it. I've been considering adding some detail to it (spinning bars maybe?), or ripping it off. problem is, I don't have a decent alternative. I tried a base, but it just didn't look right. Or maybe I should just try and tech it up a bit with a paintjob... I'll let you guys know how it turns out when (if) I find an alternative!

For autocannons, I have two sets of defiler autocanons lying around. I figured if I'd lengthen the barrels, these might do the trick. As soon as I get it done, I'll put up some pics. Alternatively, I may just scratch build them, but I'm afraid I won't be able to add enough details.
Flinty: are those lascannons you used as a base for yours?

Yeah I'm quite happy with those as well. They're usually the other way round on RL tanks, but this made more sense from a 40K perspective.

Yeah, they are made from the Predator sponson lascannon body.

Thought so, thanks!

Any particular reason you used a rhino as a base, or was it just what you had lying around? I could probably find the answer in your log, but I'm lazy
