Howdy all.

For quite a while now ive been playing around with the idea of doing a "Kroot Suit" Ive seen people do em using the XV8 and XV25 suits conversions, So I've (somewhat) gone down a different path and made myself a Kroot custom battle suit

Its still VERY wip. Im also gonna have some extra thrusters at near the bottom of the feet and he will be in flight. Im also gonna try and have a air birst cannon of some style fitted to it Im thinking if I do do the airburst frag launcher. Its gonna have to be a Back mounted launcher (like shrikes frag grenade launcher)

So whats ya think?

Ah yes. Gotta love it!

I like how you did the arms and I really like the flight pack but the legs and feet just don't seem to fit. Hope to see it again when you are finished with it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Im not really sure how I could make it look less SM, since its made of mostly Marine parts But the idea of the suit is that its built of salvaged and scavenged parts.

Silverback. In what way dont the legs fit? Any ideas on what would make them fit better?

The Jetpack is from a company called... Maxi mini.

NOW For more pics! Im playing around with ideas for the Airbursting Frag Launcher.

Ive gone with a pair of the smoke launchers from the Chaos space marine tank sprew.

**EDIT** got some different ideas for the airburst postition.

Thoughts?

I really like the idea and I think you've converted really well.

The only bit that I'm really not keen on is the chestpiece. It's very obviously SM (or CSM perhaps?) and it's featured rather prominently in the middle of the model. Even if it wasn't that identifiable, it doesn't make sense to me for him to have a bandoleer of 40mm grenades (at least that's what they look like to me... maybe bolter shells?) since he's got a flamer and a Tau plasma thing. I guess they could be hand grenades but it just doesn't seem right for him to be dropping his guns to lob a grenade. Like you already modeled, he should have a little launcher device attached somewhere to his suit if he's going to be blasting away with frags.

Anyway, I think you would do well to bust out the greenstuff again and put a nice blob on the chest and maybe sculpt or imprint a Tau symbol perhaps? I think it would definitely do well to get rid of the SM feel and probably look very cool to boot.

But that's totally just my opinion and if you're going for a 'looted' look then you are most definitely on the right track. I'm a fan either way and I want to see his buddies!

MAn that looks sooooooo much better then a tau suit. Nice work.

That reminds of the of the kitbash I did with kroot in 4th. Give a kroot a jungle tree in one hand and a burst cannon in the other = stealth suit. Yeah I know its lame but it was cheap!

Really nice work..i disagree with dogofwar, keep the bandolier across the chest. Kroot always have scavenged bits and peices strapped to em, if anything i think you should add more kroot accessories to him and follow up with a nice tribal camoflage paint scheme!

i definitely like it. the kroot DO have technology that didn't come from the tau; heck they were spacefaring before they met the tau! i like how you made the suit believable yet brutal.

If your fluff is that the suit has been made from looted/scavenged bits, then it's fine - especially if you can use that theme throughout your army. I would actually emphasis that, e.g. when you paint it, show the original marine colours on the marine bits etc.

Is... Is that a deffgun in his left hand? If so I approve kroot are supposed to have the ork tech gene so that makes sense. And i want to suggest having him using two almost broken looking drones to help fly, but i think that would look too comical, so i suggest you don't do this but i still wanted to throw the idea out if somebody else wanted to do that or somebody was looking for ideas for stormboyz. Also for the feet, i think he should either have kroot feet, or lizardman feet.

Thanks everyone for all the words of encouragment You have really made me wanna get this guy looking right. Just to answer Dogofwar.

it doesn't make sense to me for him to have a bandoleer of 40mm grenades (at least that's what they look like to me... maybe bolter shells?)

The bandoleer is full of shells for his kroot pistol on his right hip, His Weapon of LAST resort. I imagine that if he is out of flamer fule, the power cell for the fusion gun is dead and his frag launcher is empty. The weapons can be detatched from the arms (By a switch or voice command) he can then draw the pistol and Knife from his hips and take one last stand against his enemys!

And iamthecougar. Yep its a deff gun. But this deffgun was based on a Tau fusion gun really allowed me to have a more beat up version of a Fusion blaster for this conversion

Aha, thank you for the explanation!

I tend to see a lot of models people convert without any real planning (generally with SM bits) and it always looks a little funny. I clearly jumped to conclusions since your conversion is very well thought out and, now that I understand what's going on, makes perfect sense. Sorry if I was unnecessarily critical, I really don't mean to be mean, I promise.

This being said, I'm still very much looking forward to the painted product so get cracking!
