Well-Bred Rat Ogre, Doomed for a Day painting competition, Halloween, '09. Primed to final in 5 hrs. First place. (center)

Canis Wolfborn: Space Wolf character painting competition. Build-and-paint, open box to final, 6.5 hrs. First place

Sons of Thunder (front, just right of center), from The Universe Expands chapter painting competition. First place, got to take home all other entries. Instead of stripping or repainting them, made a display base for all the entries.

edit: hijacking the thread turning it into models that I've painted at the GW store, single-sitting, contests usually. Adding rat ogre stuff, and more.

Amazing! To paint to that quality so quickly is great. How come you painted him white btw? And are those giant Purity Seals?

Thanks!
I just painted him up in my Sons of Thunder colors in case I wanted to use him in my main army.
There's a busted resin space wolf seal on the other side of the base (from the 40k basing kit). It's placed there ambiguously.

The red circles are actually just "rondels" (hmm, or maybe "besagews"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Besagews ) with gems in them. I didn't know what I was doing at that moment so I just went with it.
You mentioning that though, and the fact that my main force has an Ordo Malleus bent to it, means I might just glue some parchment under those and commit to them being purity seals

Notes on the model:
*It took me 2 hours to simply assemble and base the guy. Used Green stuff instead of superglue on everything but the arms and backpack you see lying around in most pics.
*GW saved a bunch of money on metal with this kit, and left "voids" inside the leg joints and such, which I respect from a design standpoint. I didn't fill the whole area with green stuff, I just sort of "caulked" around the joint, pushed it together hard and blended it in.
*Be careful around the head/mouth when assembling it, there's a chain there that I didn't notice when I was using putty, so I obscured or didn't match the detail correctly.
*Canis himself is part of the mount. He's not separated at the waist or anything. This is disappointing for those that want to actually run 'Cav, as all you're going to be able to do (without a saw) is swap arms and backpacks. A real shame, as the kit's already 9 pieces, it might as well be 10.
*In the animated gif, you'll notice I show the bottom of the base. Since I was rushed assembling this, I wanted to make sure it was sturdy, so I made the pins long enough that they stuck through a bit. I then "plugged" them with green stuff to make sure that the pins didn't pull through (used superglue as well).

Looks ace !!! Congrats !!!!

And thanks for confirming what I was afraid of ... that Cais is indeed moulded to the wolf. That's a shame ... looks like I will be converting from sscratch, then.

Congratulations again !!

Nice work! Really jalouse that you can paint so good so fast! It would take me a couple of days to reach that level of detail!

Queek Headtaker. Tied for first (both of us got Screaming Bell kits, very kind) in the Skaven Character painting comp on launch day.
Dropped the ball on stage-by-stage on this, don't have many shots.

edit: getting image to show.

Nice - I love the yellow and blue on Queek! It's a color combo you don't often see on Skaven, but when done right it looks really slick! Nice job!

here's the strip for the mawloc:

I wanted to get a more dynamic pose, and a solid gluing, so I cut the tail at an angle. As such, I couldn't assemble the rest of it correctly, so in the interest of fair play for the comp, made sure I had to paint nearly the whole model anyway by making a couple objective markers that represented him breaching a few times over the course of the game. Gives a nice "Nessie" vibe when laid out on the table as well

Since it's not labeled... here are the painting steps for this particular model:
Primed by brushing on Charadon Granite.
Khemri Brown: paint skin, drybrush carapace.
Dheneb Stone: overbrush skin, very lightly drybrush carapace
Gryphonne Sepia: total coverage, making sure to not pool too heavily... draw out puddles as it starts to dry.
Baal red into the joints and split-skin details.
Bleached Bone: very watered down, apply highlights to skin, edge carapace.
that's the main important stuff.

Looks like an AMAZING job on the Mawloc for such a short time! Base looks awesome as well.

Thanks so much for taking pics along the way so we can better understand your workflow.

Thanks, I'm fairly happy with it, as far as achieving what I set out to do.
The base groundburst is still loose, I textured with sand underneath just in case. It kinda looks more like he slammed down into it than is blowing up out of it, which would be a reverse-crater really. Might do more with it, or redo it entirely, and try adding stuff like colored cotton for dust, etc.

Edited the post above to put details in about what paint I used.

Necron battleforce painted for Iron Painter in December. Also a gift for my wife for Christmas, as she did Necrons in the Academy, and likes yellow.
Will get better pics up, as well as assemble a stage-by-stage strip.

pasting the data in here, since it's kinda easy to miss at the top of the strip. I also painted the store's display Trygon in the same method, and will post that one as well. There I did a better job of showing the Paint Pot and the Brush i was using at each stage.

hehe, my daughter did that one, she's 8. She called him "Skittles".

BTW, I see this was moved to the Blogs forum. Thanks.
I'd asked originally if it should go here, but since the stuff I was posting wasn't ever really "in progress" but more "recap", it didn't seem like the place.
Happy enough for the new home. Might re-title the thread

Some great looking models. I can definately believe that you won lots of things with that level of skill (epecially in such a short period of time).

@SilverMK2, I still haven't done anything that feels like gamesday worthy. Pretty happy with my average on 'table ready' stuff.

@Krellnus, thanks!

I might post speedpaint pics here from GenCon if I can get into more than I signed up for. I think all but two were full when I bought my badge. So not ready.
Need to add more recent stuff as well.
I moved back to the Bay Area in California, and away from the super-close GW in Fairfax, so I haven't been to any "sit down and crack open a box and paint it up" events since early this year.

LMAO! Cute. Sounds like something my 6 yr old step-daughter would do. She did paint a skeleton pink once.

Your work on the other hand is incredible. I can take all the time in the world and not paint to that level, but in your time limits. Stunning. But I have to say thank you so much for posting your Queek Headtaker. I have one and I can't pick any colors to paint him in. I started with red armor, but I'm not liking it. I won't copy your yellow armor, but I like the blue for your cloth, so is it alright if I give that a shot for my armor?

Thanks much!
I appreciate your respect, but the scheme on Queek isn't any kind of proprietary for me, so you could most certainly do 100% if you wanted.
I just used Yellow and Blue, which are Clan Moulder colors. And almost everything there is Foundation paint, with a Gryphonne sepia wash. Maybe some Devlan Mud on the mail.
