@Gutteridge: Im just respecting Dakka and since i dont go to any other forums might as well do it here. no disrespect intended towards you.

As for the reason why, I need something that is challenging and more unique at my GW Store. theres imp. Fists, Crimson Fists, Raven Guard, Ultramarines, and even Iron Hands.

Fluff: Fail. None at the moment.

To darken the crevices w\o using a wash you could use some artists Gauche painted into the panel lines.

Or you might use a darker color in your airbrush to basecoat the figures with. Then when you use White for your panels, just dial down your paint\air mix till you get some control with it and don’t paint over the panel lines.

Thanks Andrew Ill try tinkering with it are there any other ways other than using that solution?

I would take some Devlin Mud wash, thin it down about 1:1 with water and give the whole model a liberal wash. Or perhaps start with a tannish (bambi or fawn brown) as the base coat then highlight my way up to white at the edges. If I was doing it heavily distressed then I would start with a black primer and work my way up to white-ish.

Then again, when I did my White Scars (years ago) they were allot more.... Dirty.. than is usual for most WS armies that I have seen. Of course, most of my IG tanks look like they have been off road for a few weeks lol.

White Scars can be a little deceiving because of all of the White that they have. The WS White is not just skull white, but a carefully blended and highlighted mix that is less skull white and more antique white. There is an article in this month’s White Dwarf about weathering\chipping that has a close-up of the WS sternguard vet with 2 powerclaws that you should check out.

I wouldn't liberally wash the entire model if I were you. It would be much better to do a pin wash where you target the cracks and crevices with your brush. If you want to make the surface itself less monotonous, I would use filters or subtle oil washes.

I'm with Get To The Chopper. Don't do an all over wash, just run some watered down wash into the places you want shadows. I know you said no wash, but it's the easiest way to add depth to your models
The colour depends on what tint of white you want. A more antique white would use Delvian Mud. For a more icy white use the blue wash and a grey-ish white would use a black wash.

To give the tank a more battered look (assuming you want a used look rather than a fresh paint job) you could carefully sponge on some dark grey to the edges that will be chipped/scraped or some mud around the tracks and bottom of the tank.

@endtransmission: What do you mean by "sponge"
