I'm thinking about a counts as army for space wolves, mostly because I hate them but I'm interested in using their rules.
Also, I want to turn my 5th ed Lizardman Army into a 40K force.
Saurus = Grey Hunters/Blood Claws
Skinks = Wolf things
Stegadons = Predators?
Terradons = Land Speeders
Any suggestions?

yea if your interested in playing lizardmen play it in fantasy, not 40k. you will have blowpipes and orks will have shootas... doesnt mix well at all, and i believe playing an army you dont like will not help you in the longshot.

I can see where your comming from. Nothing better than getting back at players that you hate than by using their own army agains them Had been thinking about doing a Kroot counts as Wolves army for this very reason
You should really get some cold one riders for those Thunder wolves. They are BRUTAL.
Im not sure about the scale but the Terradons may not be the best way to go for land speeders. Jet pack troopers maybe?
Stegadons would probably make a good Dreadnaught if armed up right. Could even do up a Steg version of the Special character dreadnaught and have the trone one it to show the "objective" that it becomes ones the steg dies.
To be honest if you want to play a proper style space wolves then your going to want Long fangs for heavy weapons rather than preds. Use the Stegs as Dreadnaughts
A mate of mine did a Chaos army using Lizard men for Tarellians "Dog Soldiers" HERE Might give you some conversion ideas for the basic troopers
Shall keep my eye on this with great interest

while i'm all for the CSM and vanilla marine armies as SW, this is pushing it. if you want to play 40k, get a 40k army. the base sizes for the stuff you're using are the wrong shape and size and NONE of your weapons will be wysiwig. conversions are cool but saying that every spear is a bolter is not. IF you do go through the effort to make the army sufficiently 40k-ified, it'll be unplayable in fantasy.

well for Dreadnoughts, I would say use the Carnosaur over the Stegadon, its about the same height and size, and would easily be usable as a Iron Clad. the rest of your ideas(minus the Land Speeders) seem sound, it will be interesting to see how these convert over.

It's the rules - in the rulebook i think that if you have any heavily converted models or using models as other models you must ask the other player before the game starts. And it would get really fustrating after a while.

Seriously, I have like 7 40K armies, I was looking for a modelling project. I guess I should have been more clear. I don't like the space wolf models or fluff, I like the rules. It's either a space-lizard army or angry marines for this one.

it doesn't go that far(does it?), I know you have to clearly state what your converted models are ahead of time, but I don't believe you must ask for premission to use them.
and I really don't see whats will all the hate, the guy clearly wants to be creative, I am getting the idea he would be modify the models correctly, giving them weapons that would fit to comparison. what it really boils down to is this, they are his(or her) models, this is going to be his/her army, so if they want to go the extra step to convert Lizardmen models to carry boltguns(and other types of wargear), or have Stegadons lumbering around with correct weapons for a dreadnought then shame on you for trying to discourage that. this is a hobby for not just you, it is a hobby for everyone who is willing to take the time and effort to truely enjoy it. but more importantly, these belong to the OP, so they can do as they please, anything from burning to ash to putting them in skirts.
but lets do some comparing shall we.
1. Models need to look heavily armored. well a Saurus's frame is covered in rippling muscle, thick skin and scales, not to mention the aztec-y armor of course .Temple Guards would be better in my mind for Power Armored Marines, so use normal Saurus as Wolf Scouts. or you could use the Templa Guards as Terms, Saurus as P.A.Ms and use skinks as wolf scouts.
2.Wolves count as. well Skinks don't seem to fit the bill on this one to be honest,but cold ones without riders would do nicely.
3. wolf riders. cold one riders, again this would be renforced if you used cold ones with out riders to be your wolves, helping to fit to the theme of your army.
4. Predators tanks. could easily see these as Preds, maybe add some armor plates to the sides or something to help show hint at AV over an armor save.
5. Land Speeder. sorry but this one just doesn't fit either plan too small, just plainly lacking the size needed for the land speeder but they could count as Sky Claws.
other thoughts that may be useful, mentioned before Carnosaurus as dreads, they give you the bulk you need for a hulking warmachine and with a few bits could easily pass, no need to give them flamers or storm bolters though, just say they spit quils or flame/acid.
I'll go over the model range of LM and see if I can find any suitable count as, just put up a list of what you want to have open to you and I will do my best to think up some decent count as for you to convert.
wow that was a mouthful

I'm kinda' embarrassed about this whole thing now. Not for me though, but for a lot of you. I was looking for suggestions about PAINTING and MODELING lizardman models for 40K, using the Space Wolf org rules. Instead, I got a bunch of people telling me whether I would even be allowed to do it or if my opponents would blah, blah, blah. So thanks for 'helping' dakka, but I don't think I need that kind of help.
Garuss, Turbo: I think Stegadon's would make good dreads. I've got some extra heavy weapons from my renegade guard army, I think I could mount the weapons in the howdah and have the skinks crew them. I think I'll do a few test conversions tomorrow and see how they turn out.

I think you could still do it but it definitely doesn't fit Space Wolf rules at all. As I said, I could picture using Lizardmen as Tyranids easily... Gaunts = Skinks, Genestealers = Saurus, Warriors = Kroxigors, Tyrant = Carnisaur, Carnifex = Stegadon... I'm sure you can think of others or something.
But Space Wolves? Nah. No way. Sorry.

Just like Turbo_MMX, I think it's a good idea and a great modelling project!
Perhaps you should look at the kroot arms and tau weapon to fit with the saurian aspect of your army.
Stegadons as predator why not, if you give them some kind of heavy armor/esoskeleton.
I'd like to see some pics if you ever start these conversions!
