Hey guys! Time for me to start another army (I can hear your cheers of excitement already *sarcasm* ). Here's the breakdown:

WHY:
The reason I'm starting this army is because I didn't like my Emperor's Children list (which, while 95% painted, are sitting on a shelf because I don't feel like painting a Dreadnought and a Sorcerer...). I also didn't like my Tzeentch list because it didn't allow me to flex my painting skills (long story on that one - literally!). I'm going to use models I already own (mostly) because I'll be going to school soon and as most of you know that costs lots of money. Thankfully the military will pay for half of it but thats another story altogether...

INSPIRATION:
So here's the idea. I've been (and still am) waiting for Borderlands to come out on the PC and I was thinking how much it reminded me of Gorkamorka/Digganob (ahh what a glorious game that was, for those that remember!). I would NEVER do an Ork army since I certainly don't have the patience for it, or the money for that matter, but I am drawn to this theme. So more on the Borderlands side, I was thinking of bikes (which it just so happens that I own 5!) with everything else being mounted or able to Deep Strike (ie the Termicide units). I also wanted to include some Daemons as Skaggs, but they weren't in my first rendition of the list. They are supposed to be a raiding/looting type warband that is able to quickly move into position, bring the fight to the enemy, as well as provide fire support at range.

STORY:
You're not that lucky . I haven't written it yet but when I do, you'll know! I'd like to think my story writing is well done so you'll be in for a treat!

PAINTING:
I've been looking for an excuse to use my expensive airbrush again, and if anyone remembers my Emperor's Children, it looks pretty good. I removed the pictures of them because I wanted to consolidate it all into one album but never got around to re-taking the pictures. Anyways... the scheme will be done as such: Basecoat with Red Gore, airbrushed highlights of Blood Red, then washed with Baal Red. After this, I will do lined highlights of Blood Red with some Blazing Orange as the extreme. Dents will be painted in the armour. The trim will be black, though on champions it will be silver, and gold on the lord. Most other details will be red/black/maybe yellow if I'm feeling adventurous. Eyes will be green. Tubing (where applicable) will be red/blue/green/caution tape (re: Iron Warriors). I think that's about it. Oh.. bases will be mostly desert with a bit of grass here and there.

THE LIST:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/261822.page#1066979

I still don't know what they will be called or what their insignia will be... that can be left up to you guys (if you have any neat ideas). Though I was thinking about making them renegade Blood Ravens (with the release of the DoW2 expansion... that may make more sense).

The first model I've decided to paint is going to be my lord. I've assembled him in a way that allows me to take him apart and reposition him based on peoples suggestions. So here's the first 2 pics of him:

Other than the bike, the parts used = random chains and such from what I think was the Chaos Lord box, as well as the head from that (it actually looks like me IRL, which is kind of creepy and awesome at the same time), the chest piece is from the Possessed kit, the Power Fist is from the CSM box, and the backpack is from one of the older Chaos Lords (the one standing on a SM Helmet). I don't mind changing anything, except the head. I'm definitely using that head. Though as I mentioned he can be repositioned and thus he hasn't been green stuffed yet. He's the first in a long line of work so I'd like to start off strong with this model so I have some solid inspiration/motivation to keep me going.

So yeah, any suggestions on how to change this bad ass up would be greatly appreciated! Painting starts tomorrow! (I hope)

To me he looks fine but needs some extra blingy things because he looks very basic to me.

I added those chain tassels and I didn't think that it would be enough. It looks to me like he needs something else at the back of the bike. Maybe a trophy rack there instead of on his backpack (to even it out). I think I have some other possessed bits I could use.

What about the chestpiece? Should I leave that or change it? I'm not the best sculptor in the world but I like a challenge. Perhaps if I knew what kind of insignia my army will have, then I could sculpt something appropriate (ie bat wings for Night Lords, or something of that nature).

Yeah... it is actually really cool in the abdominal region but since he's on a bike you can't really see it... I'll likely change that when I get home.

Looking good, no offense intended but you must be a fairly scary looking chap! The lord does look a little bit plain, not as ornately adorned as they usually are...

Nice! But as others have said, I do think he needs a bit more bling bling on the bicycle. And spikes. Can't be chaos without spikes.

totally disagree with you on that. I personally hate spike because one to many people just use way to many. Two when they break off you are left with all the time and energy spent onthe model with painting and building and you have this broken piece that now looks horrible and bare platic and such. And finally three skulls stuff like that convery a much darker message then a pointy stick.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Sweet, yeah I really wanted to use that backpack since it looks solid and of course has spikes!

Night Lords wrote:Powerfists suck on Lords, just to let you know. I dont know if you really care about playing with them.

I was thinking about this actually... but the way I came up with this is as such: The biker champion would have 2 attacks with a PF, or 3 with a PW, and the lord would have 4 with a PF and 5 with a PW. For max attacks, I would take the PW on both, but I think it would behove me to take a PF... and since the lord will mostly be hitting on 3s and killing on 2s, I think that helps a bit more. Obviously the big thing I'll be sacrificing is the Initiative, so we will see how that plays out. Either way... if I end up not liking it well... then I'll be sad

Thanks for the suggestions thus far, I thought of a clever idea. BARBED WIRE! I found a tutorial somewhere and was thinking I could stick some of that around the spikes I will no doubt stick on him. I do agree with Empchild though... too many spikes is bad. Especially if some clown drops your model and all your precious spiky goodness breaks off! I'll try to find a way to incorporate them so they aren't a hassle.

I had a plan for his chestpiece which may end up on all of his armour. Basically I would put a thin layer of GS all over the flat bits of his armour and dimple it entirely (so it looks textured/dented/etc) and then carve a Chaos star in it. When I paint it, it will be glowing green.

Offensively - Dont want to turn this into a tactics thread, but my reasoning is that youre basically paying 120 points (if thats the only upgrade you give him) for a Berzerker Champion

Defensively - Since you are not attacking with the lord until I1, you are less likely to eliminate the entire squad and its powerfist sergeant before it hits you. Throwing away that I5 is kind of a waste in my opinion. Unlike a Berzerker Champ, the lord can be singled out and killed due to being a IC.

You can give him Dual Claws for 5 points more, reroll those wounds, and get 5 I5 attacks on charge.

I just dont want you to make this sick model without having an idea of strengths and weaknesses if you care about using him haha.

Those are all valid points for sure. The problem is modelling lightning claws on a bike...

...though I DID just get a good idea... anyone remember Fulgore from Killer Instinct?

On a related note. I did the idea I had with the chestpiece and while its not 100% complete, I don't like how it turned out. I'll take a pic and post it now.

EDIT: Blah, camera died... damn you battery power!

Dual lightning claws aren't exactly ideal on a bike now, are they? lol

I see your point though. Reason i asked is because i know sweet F A about rules and points lol.

Hehe, lightning claws are supposed to be retractable, so I'll have to incorporate some cool looking blades.

Alternatively I could just give him a kickass weapon and write in a backstory for it so it's a 'counts as' weapon. I think that might be cooler, actually. Double bladed power axe, anyone?

Yea, i know the claws would be tough modelling. I was thinking maybe one claw on the bike handle, and one up in the air (sort of like a "CHARGE!" motion) to take eyes away from the other hand haha.

So I changed the bike and started re-working the Lord. The bike, IMO, looks freakin awesome now. The Lord is missing his head and an arm, but I'll be working on that tomorrow. I'm thinking a double bladed power axe counting as a pair of lightning claws because really... they are probably the best choice .

Just need to drill out the bolter holes for greater awesomeness and the bike is pretty much done (other than a bit of cleaning).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here's some more pics. Turns out the double bladed power axe is WAY too big and looks ridiculous. I found this sword (no clue where it came from) and thought it looked neat... so I'll just write a clever story about it

It's not a dark eldar weapon. Could be a dark elf one though, I think the witch elves are in metal.

It can't be Dark Elf either as it has a power weapon 'node' on the side of the blade. Fantasy blades don't have those. Got me wondering now..

How about a Daemon Weapon?

While unpredictable, a Bloodfeeder will wipe out entire squads easily, and combine that with the mobillity of the bike...

Personally, I think the sword looks a bit... bland for a chaos lord. Possibly one of the possessed arms would work?

If your worried about investing alot of time into a center piece model and then having it turn out a point sink, try using magnets. Personally i dont do it on my lords, but i have figured out what works for me. I think its a great way to stay flexable. That being said, i wouldnt go with a PF, I5 with a butt load of PW or LC attacks is too good to pass up.

Great looking model man, I use that head on my Termi sorcerer... but i GS'd a big stogie. Can't wait to see this bad mama jama painted.

Hehe. Thanks for the comments guys.

I honestly don't know where the sword came from. I just found it in one of my bitz boxes and to be honest, almost 14 years of collecting Warhammer I kinda lost track of what I've purchased . I'm still not 100% on the sword, so I'm thinking about looking for another one because as someone mentioned, it does look kinda bland. I was of course going to paint it all fancy and such, but I'll do that anyways

So as it turns out I'm of course going to be busy the next couple of days so maybe I'll get to painting on Thursday. All in all though, I'm happy with the pose and the rest of the conversion... just need to drill out bolter holes, clean and fill a bit of things, and perhaps switch the sword then it's time to paint this monster

Oh, and I am definitely giving him a pair of lightning claws (or a sword that counts-as... don't worry I'll write fluff for it to make it okay )!
