Hey guys,

I have decided to enter a competition at the local GW store.
Basically its a conversion comp, where the best converted model wins.
The prize is a massive massive sack of bits, its huge.
Anyway i have the AoBR dread and i have managed to cut through the torso, and have a spare lascannon arm.
I was wondering if DAKKADAKKA!!!!! could help me out.
Anybody have any ideas for poses, conversions, etc?
That would be great and i can start my own log on the progess.

Elliot

Here are some great conversions i have found

Hmmm. You could always make him in a Dynamic Pose like the one with the Hurricane Bolter. And in his CC arm he can be holding and dead CSM or something.

Just an idea straight out of my head. Im pretty sure the other DakkaDakka members can help you more than i can.

All Types of Commisions available. PM me for more details.

I agree with Strix, a dynamic pose on a model as static as the AoBR dread would be great. I've seen an AoBR dread converted like it was running, it added tons of personality and awesomness too the model.

Seamus is the one who looks like he is running I had to cut up that leg to do it but I really like the outcome

I too like the first dread with the chaos bits - all you need is the chaos vehicle sprue. A bit of dynamic reposing would also be nice, but the AoBR dread isn't especially reposable.

I would say that extra armour plating and a relatively dynamic pose could see you well here.

Could also try Japanese style banners (such as http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/3748580/2/istockphoto_3748580-japanese-banners-with-prayer-text.jpg ).

Could also try to recreate something like the armour plates on the chaplain dread? http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/chapdread.htm

Edit: Although something that I have not really seen before, which would be cool, is a techmarine dread...

I was just thinking it is a shame we do not have a picture or list of what you have to work with

Looking at those bits, the most obvious thing I could think of was some kind of quadroped dred with both arms using some kind of bullet based ammo (such as autocannons), with an ammo hopper (the barrel I see in the picture) mounted on the back of the dread, between the engine stacks.

Sort of like an AA/heavy infantry dread.

I was thinking of having the dread holding a chaos marine and crushing him, with the lasscannon firing.
Also having the leg put up upon some ruins. With a snow base
I also collect howling griffons so ill paint it that scheme

Take a peek at my dread:

I only repositioned the leg here which changes the flow of the model.
Only piece of advice I can give is to think of a theme for your model and stick to it, dont think 'Ill do a chaos dread with a dead marine' come up with an idea and abit of backstory it will provide you with a little bit more drive.

I suppose you could really go outside the box and do a badly damaged Dread that is down on one 'knee', missing an arm with wires/guitar wires hangin' out, steel wool/cotton smoke coming out?

Lot of cool things you can do with major damage, scratches, wreckage on base, etc.

Gunzhard,

The painting on that is amazing!

I think skorched grass would be better tho.

These pics are really inspiring me to get crackin' on my dreadnought !! I've been holding off for FWs Space Wolf Dread but I want to build something NOW !!

Gunzhard, you can get the "scorched grass" effect by using inks / washes to tone down the color of the green grass you have. Try it on a test base to make sure you like the effect before having a go on your fantastic dread.

Yea, using washes would avoid ripping up the grass thats already there. Just something to take the staggeringly green glow off that static grass.

In the Webway.

Ive seen one, the dread is in a dynamic pose and its crushing a nid warrior by the head with its dread CCW, it looked good but this may class as a duel or diaroma rather than a single model.

Hi folks,
some very nice and inspiring dreads in this topic, nearly already a gallery itself... maybe my ork-looted dread goes with these, too (still WIP)

As already mentioned before I agree that a repositioning of at least the legs is vital to bring some life to the model.

May try that one myself if I can spare a dread lol.

My recommendation is that you use dynamic poses, and a lot of different bits, some blood, bullet holes, etc.

Make something no one else can do.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh, I saw a video on YT somewhere with a dread with an eldar in his arm holding his face up to his flamer barrel, spitting its hellfire into the chaos marine's face. Total badassery.

For the wrecking ball you could use the one from the ork trukk with a piece of the chain glued to an engine-looking wielding device at the end of a sentinel leg... swing it, baby!

Nice if you could have the dread with feet planted and add fire from his primary ranged weapon then paint it up so its like shooting flames - there is a missile launcher SM in the gallery somewhere on dakka that has this mastered

Also have his face split in a roar and whisps of smoke from his smoke launchers

ie a real 'in battle' pose

having the head and spinal column of a genestealer in his DCCW still dripping blood on the scratches it made on his leg armour might be a nice touch too
