So, I've decided that as I'm playing Imperial Fists, I've found that I have some kind of secret love affair with painting yellow models, so I'll be posting the progress of my Imperial Fists army as it trundles along.

Here's the army (Note, this is a "before" picture. I'll have more by Wednesday)

A lot, ain't it?

So I'll post it's status on the first page.

2 Drop Pods-Needs to be purchased

Captain-Undercoated

Master of the Forge-90% done

5 Terminators-Need to be re-undercoated

Dreadnought W/Multi Melta-90% Done

Dreadnought W/Missile Launcher and Las-Cannon-Undercoated

Troops

Tactical Squad 1-9 Marines need a new Undercoat, Multi Melta Marine at 75%

Tactical Squad 2-Undercoated. 1 Marine at 85%, Seargent at 5%

Rhino-90%

Scouts-Undercoated

Heavy Support

Devastators-2 Models need an Undercoat. Seargent at 90%

Land Raider-Undercoated.

I'll be posting pics about once a week, though I'm especially looking forward to painting during Thanksgiving Weekend.

Pretty sweet. Since you're bound to be asked anyway - How did you paint the yellow? I'd love to know since my fists are currently suffering for lack of paint scheme.

On the army itself though, there's alot of firepower in that army. Second question, for 10,: why so much firepower, particularly the dreadnaughts?

you should do some painting.

Fists are only Imperial if they're yellow.

I really enjoy painting Fists. The yellow ALWAYS makes heads turn and people gather. I am doing my drop pods with my airbrush and the golden yellow is taking for ever. I am on my third application and will probably do several more. I will post a quickie shot of one done and 4 in progress. Have fun, there a few of us willing to take on the challenge.

sgtpjbarker-What yellow is that, BTW?

MacAttack-Iyanden Darksun, honestly.

As for the list, it's quite a shooty one.

I put down Blazing Orange on white primer. Then, forever it seems, i put down light coat after light coat of Golden Yellow. Then i use Sunburst Yellow to give it a overall yellow look, one coat only. Finally, i use the Bad Moon Yellow to highlight. I know, Bad Moon is gone, so I bought up about 5 bottles, hope that gets me through the army. I think I should be close to done, I have about 7K in points finished. Just 2 more Dreadnoughts and a few Speeders and I will be done.

Hmm...

What would you suggest, Golden Yellow or Sunburst?

I would do both, but Sun Burst if I had to choose just one. I wonder how many of us are out there that paint the Fists with Blazing/Golden/Sunburst/Bad Moon. All the Fist in the So Cal area GW stores are done with the Darksun variety. I like the Darksun look, but prefer the bright yellow that the Blazing/Golden/Sunburst/Bad Moon gives you. The Codex ones are with a mix of Sunburst and Skull White. It is evident in the close ups, they are more milky white.

Here is the next shot, another layer of Golden Yellow. I think I am going to do one more coat of Golden before doing the Sunburst.

Here is the last (5th coat) of Golden before I start the Sunburst.

Does anyone care?

The drop pods are lookin really nice!

I love golden yellow, one of my fav colours in the world!

That layering approach to colour is brilliant, but ever since I discovered badab black, ive become addicted to adding a wash into my layers of colour.

Can you get a pic of the 7k together? (possibly fish eye lense) lol

Check my gallery, I have a shot of the whole army. Here is the Sunburst coat. Today is the highlight of discontinued Bad Moon Yellow. I love the washes to, but they do strange stuff to a airbrush finish, why is that?

Final Coat, yes, now comes the detailing. I toned down the Bad Moon and I think it looks better. The brush was doing exactly what I wanted so it was easy.

Sorry about the lack of updates, my Paint brush was destroyed in a gluing accident.

Anywho, here are some pics of my WiP Whirlwind, and Bikers

The Whirlwind

What's with the brown ink? I find that Yellow often obscures details, so I'm using the last of my Flesh Wash to help re-define those areas with detail.

Next up, my Biker

Also, some Objective Markers I'm working on

I'm confused as to whose blog this is. If it is just Cryonicleech's clog then you should do your own blod sgtjpbarker, not take over someone else's. If it is a joint blog then i apologise, but you should state it somewhere.

Anyway, both IF armies look good, though i think i prefer iyanden armies tbh.

leech,

We play at the same FLGS (the realm in brea, Ca.). I play the bloodaxe orks. I was actually going to start a imp fist army next and would like to see your army in person. It looks pretty good BTW. maybe we'll run into each other sometime (they are having a RTT on the 12th).

@ Vitruvian XVII: It's my blog, but I'm glad he posted the pics as they were requested so that I could compare Sunburst Yellow with Bad Moon Yellow

@ Grimgob: Fantastic! I was actually going to head down there tomorrow.

I love the comparison too. Your IF pop way more than mine. I love the red too. I have seen some others that use the red and the direct comparison is making me reconsider my choices. My bikers are on my page if you want to see them. Are you going to go with a wash, i don't like how it pulls down the yellow, and your yellow rocks. Have you considered mixing up a lighter yellow and ultra highlighting them?

I'm not fond of the Wash either, the gloss ruin the effect, IMHO.

Thanks for the compliments, I will probably highlight them, though it seems that I'm starting to grow fond of the color I'm using.
