Hello once more! I have just finished my new Queek model, took loads a time being as slow a painter as I am but I feel it turned out great. Have a look tell me what you think. I plan to enter it in the local games workshop painting competition likely won't win as there are lots of good painters around here but its worth a shot since its free so why not!
Enjoy,
Thespen

Very nice, could you possibly do some shots on a plain white background? It's a busy background atm and it distracts the eye.

This does look good but to be sure we need that white background.
The red's do look rather nice, can't wait to see it properly!

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports. The new skaven models are simply eyecandy, but is it nescessary for a skaven to have a trophy-rack THAT big?

I'd like to think it is, what is clan Mors if not extravagant But seriously I think it sets it apart from the surrounding models quite well definitely a centerpiece however impractical it may be.

Headtaker implies taking something. Therefore making him a very materialistic rat. So of course he would have a huge trophy rack. You should see his burrow!

Thanks again for all the compliments! Sorry for the delay on the new pics, I couldn't get any more before I had to submit it for the competition. The judging was done by the store GWS manager and his 2 best employees. They each had to rate all the models for painting on a scale of 1-10. My final total as 29, so yeah pretty damn good, got myself a screaming bell which is coming along nicely for winning. As for new pictures I'll get them up ASAP which will likely be a week or so as I'm at home for the holidays and didn't have time between exams. The techniques I used were mostly NMM, not a speck of metallic paint anywhere on there. I used extreme highlights in many places to bring out contrast and a rough look to the worn armour and weapons as well as rust in places. A comment I got a lot was that the reverse highlighting I did on the armour in combination with the extreme edge highlights made a really good worn appearance. Apart from that its mostly just standard layering and highlighting. Unfortunately while it was in store, but luckily enough after judging, one of the employees had dropped it while moving it. I'm quite upset about it but I have mostly fixed it up, the clear coat saved a lot of potential damage form happening so it was just chipped on the ground contact areas. I have it mostly fixed up the one knee pad looks a little off still but it passes as battle damage. I may try to layer it up a bit more in the future, let me know when I get the pics up if you think its necessary guys!

The reds took quite a while to do actually. A ton of layering and reverse highlighting. Started on a black base I took scab red and chaos black and I layered up from the edge inwards. Once I got to pure scab red I started adding blood red and instead. Once I layered up to pure blood red I put a very light highlight on any area raised enough to catch the light that consisted of 2:1 blood red and blazing orange. I didn't wet blend but I took A LOT of layers so it has a very smooth gradient anyways.

I also look forward to seeing it on a white background so I can crib your technique for my own Queek, when I get it. It looks like a remarkable job.

Ok sorry for the INCREDIBLY delayed reply. I have been really busy with school and such let alone not having access to a camera for a while so I have a few new things to post as well. Anyways here are some more pics of Queek on the previously promised white background. Sorry for the dark spots on some photos I had to use the flash to get a crisp picture, even though I had TONS of light on in the room and on it it was the only way that didn't make everything look brown... Hopefully they bring out the definition a little better.

That's pretty damn good my friend
Excellent job fading the armour from black to red, nice choice of colour scheme and a nice little bit of nmm on the weapons to boot
Criticism-wise: The spikes on the armour need a little work and the nmm gold on the sword is a little too bright for my tastes. Did you use vomit brown as your base colour? If so, a nice wash of dark flesh will make it look nice and dark without spoiling the overall effect.

I love this model, and you've done a suitably nice job on the paint.
On the photos, I would recommend a second light source on the other side, and a sheets of baking paper, tracing paper or even a thin white sheet between the bulb and the mini to break up the direct light. Helps remove the heavy shadows and show off the miniature better.
