Subject: Rico's List of Stuff to Do. (720th STG - An IG Army) UPDATED 12/28 - Wolf is DONE!

Werewolf of Angmar

Hello then.
I decided not to threadomance my original P&M thread and instead focus on modeling/painting new guys and such. I'll add fluff for each guy as I think of it/get time/get motivation. This will just help me organize my goals and take stock of what to do. My army was inspired by the Air Force Spec Ops, and so they're called the 720th Special Tactics Group (STG). They're a 750 point counts-as IG army. I'll put up pics of guys that are already assembled later.
To Do: CCS
Medic--Finish Assembling[ DONE], Prime[], Paint[], Base[]
Master of Ordinance--Strip[], Prime[], Paint[]
LAW--Strip[], Add Gear[], Prime[], Paint[], Base[]
Nademan--Strip[], Add Gear[], Prime[] Paint[], Base[]

To Do: Squad Yankee Note: All models have been primed except for LAW man and Tree Sniper.

To Do: Hydra/A10

And that's the ball game. I have a question though - will anyone have any problems in a game with my Pavehawk? It will not be mounted on a flying stand, I designed the crew without thinking about gaming implications. I really don't want to have to remodel the crew, but I suppose I could.
Thanks for looking at my... Well, list... Pictures up in a bit/while.
Rico.
Copy and paste, for ease of checking off... DONE

Well.. Pictures have been taken! I am really not in the mood to do fluff at the moment so names will have to wait, probably until I get them painted.. Then stories will be written for everyone.
This guy will be given a ghillie suit made out of a wire mesh I think.. Or GS... We'll see. I may need to chop up even more jungle trees to help camouflage his suit.
I redid Jack Latham, he looks way better now. Just below the pistol's grip on his chest you can just make out a bullet hole in his bulletproof vest. Good thing he's a badass, or he'd be rattled after dodging Death's scythe.
This guy was originally going to be loading his M203... Then I realized that'd just be a pain to do since I wanted the grenade casing to be in the middle of falling out of the tube, and after many tries (and many more expletives) later I just settled on this pose.
Just your generic screaming and looking dramatic pose here. The guy's ramming a fresh clip into his gun and no doubt screaming something tactically important.
Beginnings of the mask for my Pavehawk Nose Artist... He'll be holding a can of spraypaint, listening to his iPod, crouching in front of the nose of my Pavehawk. I'm thinking a Sidewinder Snake wrapped around Death's scythe with some witty and morbid statement underneath... Props if you think of something.
The squad leader for Squad Yankee. He's in the process of reloading his Desert Eagle (bolt pistol counts-as), the clip in the hand with his tactical knife. Thank you, Call of Duty, for the inspiration. Too bad the clip looks like it's balancing on the hilt. I couldn't think of anyway to fix it so... There ya have it. Plus he is laden with frags, because nade spam is always appropriate in any firefight.
Mr. Mohawkman with M240. Fluffwise, I want him to be this sort of bodyguard to the squad leader, he's just got that air of badassery about him.
Tear gas man, with an M16 on his back and a flashbang in hand. Dedicated room-clearer! I might have posted this on my previous deceased thread... I didn't make him recently. Whatevs.
So this guy will be leaning against a tree, rifle resting in the crotch of two branches, looking down the sight. The foot will be on a downed branch/tree/something not a skull, since what kind of dumbass collects skulls, or uses them as a medium for relaxation?
Screaming voxmen are just silly, so I filled in his mouth so it looks like he's speaking like a normal human being. Then I tried to carve facial hair out of the GS... We'll see how it looks painted. Nothing drastically special about this guy, other than the binocular pouch on his thigh. Oh, and sorry for the blurry pic...
Aaaand that's all I've gotten done so far. Please, comment. I want input, and the occasional ego massaging raises morale, see?
But seriously. Comment. Give me ideas if you have them. Steal my ideas too, idc.
Rico. Automatically Appended Next Post: In the works now - the LAW man for both squads. May get to primering all of Yankee later today, depending on the presence of precipitation.
Comment!
Rico.

Just primed most of Yankee and some of the CCS. Working on test model, I decided that SAW/Mohawkman will not be in the squad, so he'll be my guinea pig.
Rico. Automatically Appended Next Post: Test model time...
Skin - Vermin Brown Base, Dwarf Flesh Drybrush, Devlan Mud Wash. I wasn't sure I liked how it looked, but after washing the model with Devlan Mud it doesn't look half bad. Props to Metallifan for the painting process.
Gun - Tin Bitz. I didn't really go into detail on it, but I am not sure what other colors to add on. I do not think I like the plain Tin Bitz, I may paint the gun black and then drybrush on Tin Bitz so there's the worn-but-working effect. Any ideas?
Pants and Vest were Catachan Green, camopaint was Catachan green and DA green.
I could probably go into more detail on the pack itself and its accoutrements, but again, what should I paint them? The majority of the pack could feasibly be black, and I don't mind that, but I just think it should have more detail. Any ideas?
Now more than ever I would like comments... I want to get going on painting these guys.
Thanks, Rico.

Don't forget the breakup ability of shades of brown
Straps, holsters, a hilt, etc... painted to look like brown leather can do wonders to break up a colour scheme if you feel it's becoming to monotonous.
The boots - go over them in Chaos Black, then hit the armour plates on the front with Catachan green.
Buckles/loops - pick these out in Shining Gold and/or Boltgun Metal. They'll stand out and also help break up the dominant colour.
The Lasgun - a Black case would look good, and would make it feel more like a Vietnam-era M16. Cutting out the optics on the top and adding a strip of Plasticard over the two brackets on the top of the weapon would also enhance it's M-16 feel.
Additionally, cutting the brackets off, adding a sickle mag, and then painting the front of the weapon and the stock in a wood tone while keeping the gun casing black will give it a strong AK feel.
Really though, as far as a quick test goes, I like it

 A COMMENT!
Thanks, I'm in the process of painting Squad Yankee, Sarge is about halfway done. Pics may be up later today, we'll see how things turn out. I may use chainmail for anything metal, because that's more of a darker metallic color that fits well for the theme. Guns will still be black with a light drybrush of tinbitz.

Chainmail is darker than Boltgun Metal? Huh. I'm 99% sure it's the other way around. For your guns, give them the Tin Bitz highlights, then go over that with a smaller (like, razor's edge) chainmail/boltgun metal highlight.
That'll give it a slightly grimey/rusted look.

You're right, I had my paints mixed up. Either way, I picked up some Boltgun Metal today, and I drybrushed it a little unevenly over the guns. I forgot to pick up Tin Bitz though, despite the fact I went to my FLGS with that being one of the major reasons (looking at shelves of models with a 20% off deal tends to reshuffle one's priorities) but the boltgun metal is a good look I believe.
It's a bad time for pictures on account of the sun rising over Europe sometime soon so I'll see what I can do tomorrow, in addition to looking for materials for a real lightbox. Anyone care to offer tips on how they made theirs?
Thanks.
Rico.

Heeey update time. Painted three guys, sarge included. A fourth is just about done. I forgot to paint the boots on one of the three guys in the update, but overall these guys look pretty cool. I like what I did on them. C&C are always welcome though, it never hurts.
Pictured reloading his Desert Eagle, tactical knife in hand.
The Pistolier earned his nickname because there is no finer shot in the 720th when it comes to handguns. A man learned this the hard way (well, many men learned this the hardway, but this particular guy makes for a great story to tell at dinner parties) when he tried to mug Carney and his wife with a .38 caliber pistol as they walked to their car after going shopping. Carney reached into his coat, withdrawing his personal beretta and shooting the man twice without hesitating. The bullets destroyed the man's pistol and hand - Carney received no consequences or reproach because the would-be mugger was wanted for multiple crimes. The Pistolier now leads squad Yankee, the booming retort of his Desert Eagle resounding with each deadly accurate bullet.
Pictured gesturing to his squadmates at a target as he prepares to put another 40mm grenade downrange. [Sorry, no fluff for this guy yet. I think he'll be the spray-and-pray guy of the squad, carrying a truckload of ammo.]
Pictured ramming a fresh clip into his gun and shouting something. Expletives? We'll never know. [No fluff for this guy, either - he will talk a lot though, hence the nickname of Leno (Leno is a talk show host here in America)].
Teargas man will be posted tomorrow, or maybe not. I'll be pretty busy tomorrow.
Thanks for lookin'.
Rico.

Metallifan redirected me here from his blog, and I'll have to remember to thank him for it. You've got some really nice conversions going, and you reminded me to put a box or two of plastic Catachans on my Christmas wish list.
I can't wait to see your Pavehawk, you make it sound like sort of a mini-diorama the way the crew is laid out around it. It sounds like an impressive piece, with a lot of character.

Cool stuff here if you want to go with real war weapons you may want to have a look at The Assault Group they've got loads of modern bits like M16's which would go well with the theme.

Thanks! I will put up pictures of the Pavehawk once I add a few more pieces to it, perhaps later in the day as I will be busy in the early afternoon. As for the Catachans - sift through eBay for the old box that had enough parts to assemble 20 guys. The new boxes with 10 are $20 each IIRC, and the old box with 20 was ~$35, I am amused by GW's pricing shenanigans.
Llamahead wrote:Cool stuff here if you want to go with real war weapons you may want to have a look at The Assault Group they've got loads of modern bits like M16's which would go well with the theme.
I thought about using modern weapons as part of a bits order or even using 28mm Modern Warfare figures, but I decided it'd be more fun to convert each guy. The muscles are messed up and armor isn't exactly represented on all these guys, but I don't really care.
Thanks for the comments,
Rico.

Skull white? Where? There're no colours that would compliment on those minis.
Camo Green would be the highlight for Catachan Green
Elf Flesh would probably be a good highlight for that skin tone
Shadow Grey or SW Grey would be the highlight colour for black

Heeeey... After more homework than is good for the soul, Christmas tree setup, homework, and... Homework, I'm not too far on my force... But I will get Teargasman up tomorrow ideally. I may also start a comms man then too, at this rate I will have a relatively free Tuesday.
Thanks for the comments 'n such like.
Oh... and a pavehawk is a Blackhawk designed for special forces troops. I wanted to do a Pavelow (looks cooler) but a model for it in 1/32 scale was a pain in the ass to find, and when I did find one it was disturbingly overpriced. the Pavehawk is decommissioned now (replaced by Pavelow) but it was what I could do with the resources at hand.
Pics of that up tomorrow, too...

After an influx of time, I've got two guys finished - Teargasman and Straken.
I'm thinking his nickname was earned because he can either handle his alcohol very well, or can't. Dunno which one.
So named because he is hardly Sprat, and it fits his first name. Or something. I don't know. I'm still workin' on this one's name+fluff. The original head from the catachan command squad sprue didn't do it for me so I replaced his head with SAWMohawkman's head. Looks cool methinks.
So there ya have it. Next up, voxman. Or... Adding on to the Pavehawk. Oh, I need pictures of that... They'll be put up eventually, promise!
Thanks for lookin'... Comment please. Or don't.

@Karuthor - I like it, that is fairly common though. Any other ideas? Thanks for (commenting) contributing to the idea pot!
@Metallifan - I sorry. I'll work on a lightbox this weekend. Or maybe I won't, we'll see. My FLGS is having a gaming Christmas party (holiday party, but I don't give a damn about being politically correct) so I think some money and I will partake in this shindig. Amusing idea for the nose slogan, too
Thanks for the comments! As of now I am working on the Pavehawk... The two halves are being silly so the chopper itself won't look very impressive until I eventually GS all those problematic gaps. It will just give ya'll an idea about where I am on it.

Here is where I am on the Pavehawk. Still have a fair amount of work to do. I am in the process of spraypainting it all matte black as I used a florist spray paint (hey, it was cheap and said flat black on the can) that ended up being incredibly glossy and didn't stick to paint (as peeling off the masking tape later revealed). Picture quality sucks, I know. I have nary'a lightbox, and it's 2245 here. Natural light is not really abounding. I hope to finish assembly (minus windows and perhaps a couple other gubbins) and then get to painting it. I'm thinking the diorama will be the crew running back to the chopper after it is refueled and rearmed, and the nose artist is re-painting the slogan and image. Or something. Idk.
However, my question remains unanswered. Will the Pavehawk being on the ground be a problem? I am sort of beyond he point of no return if it turns out it has to be in the air...
Whatevs. Headin' off to bed. G'night. And please comment. A hundred fifty people not including myself, Metalli or Karuthor looked at this thread and didn't say a peep.

I should finish assembly of the Pavehawk late tomorrow, I hope. On tab for this weekend include(ideally)...
-A Harlequin Autarch on Jetbike
-A Snikrot model with Team Fortress 2 "spy" class masks for each army - like a tyranid mask, space marine mask, IG mask, etc. These masks will be magnetized, with a base snikrot mask, I think. It's better if you play or have heard of the game, haha.
-Comms Man: Yankee. Perhaps. But we'll see.
-Oh, and I need to get an Edward Cullen model sorted out... I hope to assemble + paint in time for Christmas, where I can give it to my girlfriend... Promises to be challenging, as I can currently only paint dirty soldiers clad in olive drab gear. We'll see how the whole process goes, but he's a pretty high priority (no shoddy models for her )
That's pretty much my weekend plan for gaming.

Hey man, glad to see the pavehawk is coming along! Sounds like you have some pretty ambitious plans for the weekend though, so good luck with those.
I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with something clever for your nose art, but for the life of me I can't muster a single worthwhile thought. I'll let you know though, if anything comes up.

Simple! Take the queerest looking model you can find, put it in a limp-wrist pose, and then paint blush, eyeliner, and lipstick on it until the mini looks like a drag-queen.
It'll be so realistically accurate, she'll squeal in joy

Try eldar sprues? That's quite an endeavor you've set for yourself - are you sure she wouldn't like a Team Edward T-shirt

Or better yet: tell her that movie sucks, the author is a joke, and that she should find something that's actually worth obsessing over - like THAH EMPRAH!
