JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

Very expensive, good as dead against DH, very resillient w/ the invuln save, and deepstrike always.
I like them, might use them, kit them w/ plasma, and go to town.

They are very expensive tac squads that move slower and die the same to basic-anti infantry fire that regular space marines do for twice the cost. The 3++ is worthless if you have T4 with no FNP vs shooting. In assault the 3++ would be awesome if you could kit them for CC but you can't and slow and purposeful will mean you almost never get a charge off anyway. Space wolves can do the whole deepstriking relentless multi-meltas MUCH better than the space marines can since they can use their special character to absorb wounds, take more multi-meltas and are a legitimate CC threat. Legion of the damned have no place in a serious list but their models are awesome for "counts as" various SM models in themed lists.

As models they look great, certainly on my 'to do' list.

If they were allowed more heavy weps and were 5-10 points cheaper, I would use them as a walking dev squad with plasma cannons.

YEAR OLD THREADOMANCY! But in contribution I have yet to see local marine players use them. In preference they swithed to Space Wolves or are using Drop Pod/Rhino/Razorback Spam.

..hmm.. in this instance we'll go along with it, in future though there's not much point in dragging up a thread that is 1 year old like this. Ta.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Agreed on the points cost. On paper, they look great. But when I make a list, I get sticker shock.
Maybe I toss them in an Apoc game sometime.

I started my damned army at the time that the damned models first appeared. Being more of a damned collector/painter(no clubs near me) I built up a damned sizeable force which comprises over 150(yes you read right)damned troops, 8 damned terminators and a damned dreadnought. Now I was starting to get really damned excited when I heard that the damned were going to feature in the latest damned marine codex. You can imagine how damned livid I was when I actually found how damned restricted they were! The last damned time I used them rules were very damned brief; I detested the damned fade out rule as theoretically your whole damned army could vanish at the start of the damned game!
As you may have realised I'm damned *&^%£$$" angry at the sloppy tag on to your own army approach that they took in the codex.

I don't think the damned are useful on the field, however for coolness I think their models are unbeatable. Are the bones and flames on the models on GW's site modelled on the actual models, or are they painted on? I want to get some just to paint them, but not if I need to paint bones and flames.
