Recently put together my first 40K army, just thought I'd share the pictures. Lot of people seem to dislike the Space Vikings look, but I rather like it, apart from the silly 80s-metal hairdos (and worse) GW put in the kits. Used a bit of green stuff on just about every model, some bits from Fantasy Chaos, some Warmachine bits.

Marine armor doesn't really drybrush all too well. They'd look better if you just did edge highlighting. It takes a little longer but it's definitely worth it.

At 1st i wasnt too keep on the drybrushing, but it tends to make it look like its been hit by snow.

Yap, a snow-covered look was basically what I was going for.
I'll practise highlighting sometime. Thing is, painting is not my favourite part of 40K - converting minis and playing are, so I tend to paint my minis to the 'looks arrite on the table' state.

Well "arrite on the table" is how they look. Well done on the conversions though. It is a bit of a shame, better painting would make the conversions stand out, and this paint job does them no favors.

Painting on snow only really works on surfaces that would "grab" the snow, like the fur pelts, beards, and that shield. The power armor is too smooth to let the snow accumulate while the dude's moving around, in addition to just looking sloppy.
Dry brushing the "sticky" areas and highlighting the rest would make it really make the details pop while still keeping the snow storm there.

unless its so cold ice is forming on the power armour, but yeh the whole thing will look better with snowy bases and even a bit of snow on the 'sticky' areas like this dude said

Good conversions, not so good painting.

Seconded!
Maybe even some massive shards of ice to stand on for the more important characters.

i recon they have a great theme to it.
you just need to work on the painting.
i think the key here is not to rush.
when i first started playing i wanted to glue and undercoat and paint everything over the weekend
i now started a howling griffons army and its taken me a couple of weeks to get most of a tac squad and an assault squad done.
take your time, it pays off.
