I just started working on a CSM army and wanted to give it a Tzeentch theme. That being said I would naturally have a Sorcerer and I wanted to make a familiar figure for him. Any ideas for what a tzeentch familiar should look like would be appreciated.

If not I might just use a small human-ish figure carrying a tome or something similar. I would probably want him to look like the heretic builder unit in the dawn of war videogame. Anyone know of a model that might look like this so I can converted?

For the builder you can use a flagellant model, or take a gretchin body from 40k gs it up and give it a human head, like having a midget for a familiar. or buy the familiar pack from gamesworkshop

For the gretchin body, you can put the caged flagellant head, and say like its a child born out of magic or stuff

or like the sorcerer stole a child during a raid and is teaching the child magic so thats why he can be beneficial in magic

That cats more funny than disturbing, it made me lol

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building, copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair & grab some popcorn and yell JUMP!!!!!
Inquiring minds want to know: Do cos-players carry a costume version of the emergency roadside kit we all have in our cars?

Ima have nightmares now :(

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Oh dear. They have the same attitude to making things scary as GW (and goths) - "give it tattoos, and piercings, and make it black, that should make it more scary". How about some spikes and skulls eh? EH?

I remember seeing a gyrinx in the 4th Ed BGB. You might wanna try a small hooded figure? A converted watcher in the dark?

I have to admit I was more drawn to the hugely distended, maniacal, psychopathic grin and overly large, sharp claws on a disturbingly emaciated frame.

I don't think I even noticed the tattoos or piercings until you mentioned it but I suppose they do add a little bit to it.

Yeah I'm gonna use a lot of Thousand Sons since its a Tzeentch army, although I don't really want to use the specific models. I'm very fluff oriented and the idea of a bunch of automaton suits doesn't seem too appealing.

Instead I'm thinking that they should be warriors blessed by Tzeetch to hear every lie spoken by man. While this gives them incredible knowledge it eventually turns them insane from trying to remember what is a lie and what isnt and just hearing the voices in their heads also makes them more deranged. I remember reading about a group like this is the CSM codex and thought it sounded cool.

Of course they'll still be played like regular thousand sons. They have the Slow and Purposeful rule because being insane makes their movement and coherency erradic and they need the Aspiring Sorcerer with them so he can use his warp magic to keep them somewhat sane and in control.

Still have to figure out what I would want them to look like. Using the Flagellants' heads would be a good idea but if anyone else has an idea on how to represent a group of insane, psychic marine I would appreciate it.

Skaven plague monks are excellent if you want to go for a small, hunched look.

Just cut off the tail, add/remove spiky bitz to taste and swap in your own arms and head. To make my Astropath I used Cadian arms with one of the bald heads from the command sprue and I'll probably sculpt him a hood, or something like that.

Using skaven is clever. They're about the same size as a human right? I just wana make sure I dont get tiny rat people.

What I was going to do was make a familiar out of a Nurgling for a Nurgle Sorc, although that probably doesn't help you.

The Gretchin idea is good.

Maybe you could GS some random small tenacles (Like a horror) and stick some semi-formed pieces (like a head or an arm holding a spell book thing or whatever).

Yep, they're just hunched over so they are a little shorter. I used Plague Monks as my Psyker Battle Squad and they worked out fine.

I've just had a brainwave for a 'zeencth familiar!

Have you seen the original (i.e. cartoon) Transformers movie? If you can you remember the four-headed judge robot thing's assistant? it had all those tentacle-wire-arm things.

What you could do is use a plague monk body and then attach loads of tentacles (the tails from the skaven boxes make very good tentacles, if not some gs is in order) to the arm sockets instead of arms, and with a suitably ugly head you've got yourself a weird familiar!

I really like the Plague Monk idea for the Thousand Sons. I'll probably make a few different familiars for fun and once I get done with that (which will be a while) I'll try and post them up.

Thanks for the inspiration.

You could try some privateer press models out. Something from the cryx line would fit well in a CSM army.

Another option, if you're willing to look outside of GW's stuff, would be Crocodile Games line of fantasy Egyptian stuff...

http://www.crocodilegames.com

In particular, the Tethru line have some good models (albeit more for Sorcerers than familiars).

Or you could go with one of the familiars from the Icons and Artifacts section:
