Ok...
Well tonight was a mixed bag to be frank.
My borrowed 2K WoC faced the might of Bretonnia and after a very hard fought game, ended up being a draw. I shall never look at a Pegasus Knight the wrong way again, those things are just plain nasty!!! Especially when taken in 3 units .
I thought my next game was going to be easy, but OMG it was far from. It was against Dwarfs. Now whoever said that Dwarfs are not a good army in Tourneys is dead dead wrong!!! I got tabled on turn 5, with half of my army in pieces by turn 3. Those damn cannons (two of them), on turn one killed three knights, nine warriors and took 2 wounds off my Chaos Lord!!! His Gyrocopters marched blocked me all game as I couldn't pull a single spell off thanks to an immense amount of dispel dice. On turn two I lost an entire unit of Marauders to Thunderers and yet another good bounce from one of the cannons. The other cannon killed off another 3 warriors and took the last wound from my lord - The first game he has ever died. This left some warriors, one unit of Marauders and two knights, which were then shot up by a lovely roll from the Organ Gun. The sorcerers were still hanging around, but doing very little. Turn 4 I finally got into charge range with my warriors and hit a unit of Ironbreakers including something called the Thane of Pain. Needless to say I lost combat, but my Ld held as I rolled a double 1. Dwarf turn 5 saw the entire Marauder unit die to thunderer and Organ Gun and the remanants of the Chaos Warriors dying to the Thane of Pain and IB.
I killed nothing - nada - bum squat!!!
His artillery was so accurate it was disgusting and his 3 smiths stopped all my magic. But this has definately given me food for thought.

Probably Nurgle, Africa has the lock on that.

I use Zap Brannigan's art of war and try to jam enough wreckage in their main cannon so it won't work. |

That Dwarf game sounds like he had some insanely good rolls with shooting! Tough break man.
Do you reckon you learned much from the games?

His rolls were insane. In one turn, from a ten man Thunderer unit, my opponent only missed with one shot and wounded with all the remaining ones. Some very dead Marauders.
I learnt that I should never underestimate a army that is lower on the tiers and never move into a Gunline unless it's straight into a flank. Problem was his Flanks were guarded by Warriors and splitting my force up would have been a massive mistake.
The biggest thing I learnt is that the WoC army is not really for me. I don't like the one dimensional attack it has. I want something with punch, that can also take a beating and can do something in each phase rather than just march and fight.
I did gain one thing however, a lot more respect and admiration for the Dwarfs army. I might rebuild my old Dwarf army for the league that starts in January. I'll see what Xmas brings.

If one dimensional is not your style, I'm not sure you want to go with Dwarfs... It did sound like a pretty heavy gunline, though without the full list it's hard to say for certain. And though he may be able to shoot up an army like yours, he'll run into trouble elsewhere- hence why Dwarfs are considered weak in a tourney type environment.

What Chaos list were you running?
Don't judge purely on a few matches with an army you've never played before with a list you didn't really choose.
Chaos can be several dimensional - combat heavy with blocks of Maruders interspersed with Warriors, flanked by Knights, with a couple of Disc sorcerers floating around to hunt artillery with flickering fire etc. O.k. he had about 7/8 dispel dice - so go magic heavy, or simply scroll caddy, Lord and BSB.
Whack a fighting BSB (Mark of Tz.) on a Disc of Tzeentch. with Golden Eye(3+ ward v. shooting), flail and maybe Bloodcurdling Roar (for the 'Breakers)/ Book of Secrets for a magic missile and go cannon/Runesmith hunting. With the combat res of being a BSB (so he could take on Thunderers/artillery on a hill etc.), coupled with 4 strength 7 attacks at the end of a 20'' charge... He's ideal v. Dwarves.
Play a few more games first anyway. Or try out another army Cahos or otherwise, same difference.
Hope that helps

Wulfrik and some Marauders with Flails could Tear up that gunline.
But most WOC vs. Dwarf games are always one-dimensional anyways.
Try out a few more games.

 Mwahhahaha
You need to get to thier lines fast. Chaos knights are a must as they are fast (well i presume they are because theyre cav). If you have anything that can fly or appear behind enemy lines, use it!!

If you march into the teeth of a gunline.
UR DOIN EEET RONG
Next time, while he's setting up an immense gunline of doom around a hill of power, get all of your models into a single tightly packed mob and come around one flank. this minimizes his thunderers and quarrelers, and creates sight problems for the war-machines.
