Okay what is below is all my troops in their 80-90% completion phase as I await the cash to spend on more paints, red for the eyes and flesh for well the flesh. The idea/fluff is they were apart of a adept mechanicus fleet lost in the warp that run across a entity that claims to be the true machine god and more powerfull than Omminash, claiming to be called Unicron. So fluffy wise the big units will get transformer based names and if I can get some some deception symbols on them and long term a transforming tank or some such that fits GWs model range scales. So anyway enjoy, roll your eyes, or heckle to your hearts content. ^_^

OT - I think you need to do a few thin coats to get a smoother finish. Try badab black wash on the metal and drybrush chainmail to highlight it back up. I think a wash on the model as a whole would help shade necessary parts - try thinned badab black.

Agree with the above, wash the metals, and add thinned washes in the recesses. Love the colour scheme, very different, and ignore the harsh prick above, he probably has nothing better to do.

Anything that has to do with Unicron in my opinion is A-OK
And if nothing else, the color scheme is definitely not common to be sure

Transformers and WH40K are two of my favorite things. I applaud your efforts.

The only criticism I have is that the guns are too shiny. I'd be liberal with some Badab Black wash to tone them down, and give them some detail.

OP, I love your purple and green scheme, very attention grabbing! I do wonder about you not using an undercoat though? On the apothacary? Also as above, put a wash on those marines, especially the guns, badab black is your friend.

Oh the troops had been primed but as I found as their Black reach captain face melted befoe my eyes I acted quickly to simple green them clean, the result was some small patches left dark which I thought made for a decent "old" metal look. I've got one more squad to complete but I don't think I'll touch them until it stops raining to get some safe primer on them.

Just out of curiousity are you priming your models?
if not that could be a very usefull habit to get into when it comes to improving paint quality.

I would say, in general, try coating them more so the color is smoother. And try some washes.


And don't listen to BOSS_PIMPALOTZ...

I kid. I didn't know the decepticons had a color scheme. I thought they were more of a conversion than a paint job, if you catch my drift.

I'm mainly using the original decepticon brand which had alot of purple and the green from the constructicons who where my childhood favorites.

I personally dont like the colour scheme either looks kiddish without sounding too harsh but everyone to there own and sometimes distinctive colour schemes work just not in this case maybe it could look better with some highlights and some battle damage.

I've had the model I chose for the apothecary for awhile, I think she is apart of the retinue for a metal inquistor, since I went from trying to field SoB/DH to pure SM she has been gathering dust.

What cons are you naming your units after? Going to paint different units in different colours? Landspeeders in seeker colours would be sweet.

I must say everything seems rather flat and lacking in detail; considering how many flat surfaces Marines have it's in your best interest to add washes and highlights.

I'm really confused, there seems to be a lot of praise in this thread. But to be honest, you need a bit more practice. Seems like you might be missing some of the basic skills. The GW painting books are a great start. The models actually look like you could successfully dip them, I agree that the color scheme is interesting. I like to see departures from the sameness that you see all over. Hope you find some iconography, I would like to see how that turns out. You could probably buy a couple cheap transformers off of ebay and chop them up for extra armor on rhino's to give it your distinct chapter look.

I hear ya on the painting practices, I've tracked down a older but on pdf that was about painting plastic/metal minis, no how to paint space marines yet. I got the stuff that comes with a pair of razorback boxes, a tac squad box, a rhino box, and two techmarine boxes. The first two (painted) tacs where all from Black reach given to me by a friend who wanted only the termies and orks.

Try getting some Washes, mainly Devlan Mud, Gryphonne sepia, and maybe Leviathan purple.

I notice that your stuff seems to not have been primed before it was painted. Am I right..or am I just seeing things funny? If you arent priming them first ..you are going to lose alot of your paint to just normal handling of your models.

The troops were primed with what I found out quickly as the label only said flat was glossy flat and had to strip them with simple green. But afterwards they were rough to the touch and some of the black stayed so I test painted one and liked the dirty/old look it gave the one guy so I tried to recreate that look for all of them. Fluff wise this mini-chapter of semi-heretical marines were supposed to be lost to the warp since right after the horus heresy so they were meant to look a bit old....but I"m not sure if I've really got the talent yet to show that level of aging on them.

Well I primed my newest morines and found that the cap did not match the contents of the ultra flat Krylon Camoflauge. So instead of black primer, I have chocolate brown primer. Not a huge deal but annoying to have that kind of suprise. Anyway here is a pic of the first and as of tonight only choco-marine being painted.

Looks like your getting a chalking effect from your prime, you are either spraying too far away, or something is up with your humidity.
