First off- very nice freehand (assuming it IS freehand, of course ). Second: I've heard that tinfoil from around champagne bottles gives a good effect. At this time of the year, it shouldn't be too hard to get. I've had good effects with thick drawing paper; it can be folded pretty decently, and if you want it really sturdy paint over it with thinned down PVA glue.

A Squeaky Waaagh!!

Camkhieri: "And another very cool thing, my phones predictive text actually gave me chicken as an option after typing robot, how cool is that."'

Meercat: "All eyes turned to the horizon and beheld, in lonely and menacing grandeur, the silhouette of a single Grot robot chicken; a portent of evil days to come."

The first thing that popped out to me here is the pole itself. It looks like youve got a circular handle with the whole upper half being square. Thats one thing that will make it look better. As for the banner, I would check ebay for some random WHFB banners as many of them look really cool!

EDIT: I would also try to stray away from crumbling it if you use paper... It makes it really noticable that it is paper and it just doesnt look appealing at all imo.

I remember an old OLD article in WD where some guy used very thin cloth (i think it was a pillowcase or hankerchief) soaked in ordinary white housepaint as pennants/banners on his brets, gave a really good tapestry effect and folds naturally like cloth, you could give that a whirl and see what it does.

Ive made standards for a friend before using a trimmed fantasy spear for the part the banner hangs off and a lance as the main pole. Then add detail with greenstuff. The banner itself can be made purely from greenstuff if you like sculpting ( you can use techniques for making robes on models to great affect here ). Failing that you can use a panel of armor from a scrapped tank with edges reshaped and greenstuffed or use styrene sheet cut to shape.

I like the sound of that tapestry style cloth banner.
