Hi guys, I'm rather new to 40k, and just thought I would post one of my IG squads up. I have 3 veteran squads and 2 stormtooper squads done, but this is probably my best to date, which isn't saying much . Thought I would go for a sorta Gaunt's Ghosts feel to it, please forgive the dark photos, my flash decided to pack in :S.

haha thanks a lot. Unfortunately these cloaks are only on this squad and my snipers... getting these bitz can be tricky.

First army? No way!! They are very good and i second the motion about the cloaks...
Now i have to say say that i really hate the catachan arms on anything so go figure...
Oh and there is something wrong with their eyes...

First 40k army, although I did collect LOTR. Those models really were awfully painted though.

Yea I'll not get into the whole anti-Catachan arms thing now and the eyes... i sppose they do look a bit starey and big and rather weird lol. I never painted eyes on LOTR cos of the 25mm scale and my uncoordinated hands, but since these were 28mm i thought I'd give 'em a shot. Practice makes perfect i guess.

Thanks a lot guys, wow lol. Hmm maybe a full tanith army rather than Catachan might not be a bad idea... i'm considering redoing any convertable catachans I have into tanith, hopefully another squad of ten. Might get the stock tanith models from GW as a HQ perhaps. I completed the first vehicles, two scout sentinels and 5 "rough riders" (actually SM scouts on bikes with catachan heads, reason being my friend uses them in his SM scout army). I would have preferred the bikers to be a little less SM scout, but I had to compromise lol, similarly with my nearly finished storm troopers/SM scouts. Hmmmm, and Sly Marbo with a camo cape? Tempting... O, and if anyone has suggestions, maybe some cool personalisations for the sentinels (Names, designs etc.)? And before you say anything, I know the sentinel legs are the wrong way round. That is my fault given I let said friend assemble them. He has been punished for his incompetence.

I thought the legs on the sentinel looked a little weird at first, but they grew on me. Overall you did a nice job.

Concerning your cloak problem, it wouldn't be too hard to replicate them with green stuff, would it? I think a fully cloaked catachan army is absolutely fabulous, the vanilla models look unattractive in my opinion but here you have created grizzled vets that would make the men of Cadia shake and pee 'emselves!

My sculpting skills are non-existent Thankfully though I've managed to track down another 20-30 of those cloaks, so thats good. Gonna take a couple of weeks to get here though due to them coming from overseas. As for the stubble, its pretty easy, just mix adeptus battlegrey or codex grey with some scorched brown and water it down, then dab it on. And Henners, your urban camo has got me considering a special urban squad perhaps, maybe even a seperate platoon; but that'll be in some time Thanks guys!

Nice army. You could always use the bikers as rough riders as well. Great job and keep going!

Cheers, yeah that was my first intention for them. Untried and untested in battle as yet, ditto for the tanith squad.

you could Get some cloaks/tarps that are folded from tha SM scout bits. that way everyone could have cloaks, just not deployed...

Thats not really necessary since I have just ordered more of those cloaks. I did actually run out at one point, and if you look at the 5th picture in my first post, the dude on the right has got the folded cloak thing on his back.

Dude, I realy like the look of this army. Paint/color scheme looks great (especially for a first army!). Cloaks look pretty sweet as well.

Sir motor, those cloaks are from Warhammer fantasy wood elf glade guard, i usually find them on ebay. Thanks for the encouragment guys, I'm now waiting for more of those cloaks to arrive while I redo my existing catachans.

Dammit that's cool! Can i sorta steal your idea, i've wanted to do a Tanith army for ages, but never known how to get good cloaks (me and Mr Green Stuff are sworn enemies. I blame my sculpting skills )

Searched for Glade Guard cloaks, you could try this site, and order individual cloaks, but they might be cheaper on e-Bay.

How would you field this army (presuming you wish to game with it)? You could field six Veteran squads with Forward Sentries, but i feel that gives you too few models for a Guard force. You could use them in Platoons but without any special rules (camo cloaks). In the books they were in 'squads' of 50 (maybe, a little fuzzy on the technicals)

I may buy more men and aim for an all infantry army (set before Vervunhive). Excellent job, I salute you!

Those are some real nice models, but what did GW do to those Catachans. Did every single Catachan get their arms and faces stepped on when they were kids. Man they are ugly. You make them look the best I've seen them look for a while though. Good Job.

Thanks a lot guys. Haven't done much work on the next planned squad due to exams atm, but Sly Marbo has had his cloak done. Im thinking about adding a little more variety though, so if you don't like catachans, you are gonna hate the next batch Pictures hopefully up soon.

and Whitebishop, yea i am planning on gaming with these. I know guard should just get as much infantry as possible with some tanks thrown in for good measure, but i prefer the small, elite expensive force that usually get their butts kicked by tanks. As it is I have a HQ with straken, 2 vet squads (1 with a harker stand-in), 2 st squads, marbo, the sentinels and rough riders. Kit em all up and it comes to 1000 pts. ouch. good fun though .
