I would tell her she has her hobbies/addictions and if she doesntunderstand that then she obviously doesnt belong with me or anyone else on the face of this Earth.

What happened for her to bring about the "me or 40k" ultimatum? While the wife/gf (either or both) is supposed to be our better half, one who really loved us would understand that our hobbies and playing with toy soldiers help us keep from telling her what we really think of her loudmouth mother and useless family/in-laws. I'm just being honest...

Cost Benefit Analysis:

To me, all things can be broken in to costs of: Time. Money. Emotional Termoil.

40k:
-Lots of Money
-Lots of Time, but its fun time so it kind of balances out

Women:
-Lots of Money, women are liberated now, but apparently guys are still expected to foot their bills at diner
-Lots of Time
-LOTS of emotional termoil

Therefore I determine that women are cost inefficient. 40k wins.

I moved one of her pieces of cheap fairground tat so that i could put my limited edition Brother Theolus on display and i think if ed with energy flow or something suitably pointless.

I'd show her the door... and my wife agrees with that too.

It's not about the 'whatever' or me, it's about the lack of respect a person shows another person when they demand that the person give up something that matters to them.

I wouldn't issue such an ultimatum to my wife, she wouldn't issue one to me. If a person respects you, it means that they respect your interests too.

+1 to Redbeard and Vindicator #9

My wife knew I was a wargamer when we were dating. If it was an issue that would've caused a problem, she would have brought it up. I have set a boundary on myself that when she needs time with me, she is the priority and the hobby gets put away but not gotten rid of. She has never said "me or 40k". She knows the hobby is too much a part of me.

Devil's advocate here, as I also agree with Redbeard, but sometimes an ultimatum isn't completely unjustified. Sometimes people's priorities get completely out of whack and a good wake-up call is needed. (I'm thinking of stuff like heavy addictions...plastic crack or otherwise.)

XD. Well yeah If i had choice i would get her intreseted into the hobby because it is not just a wargame -.- .
It may be a little nerdy but GAming is nerdy as much as no one likes to admit it.
If there was another way i would do it.

But in all seriousness, I'd take her and then tell her that in turn she has to stop doing something that she enjoys doing that costs $$.

It just makes me love my wife all the more. She is amazing and beautiful and despite the fact that she doesn't know a bolter from a battlewagon and rolls her eyes at me "playing with my little men" she'd never ask me to give it up.

If your relationship is at the point of that sort of ultimatum, you've most likely got bigger problems than toy soldiers.

So there's not really any way to answer this, since it would depend completely on the actual situation. Largely on how serious the relationship was, and how much time I was spending gaming compared to time with her.

It's not likely to happen in my current (and all going well, last) relationship anyway, since M understands the need for hobbies as much as I do, and if it got out of control would be far more likely to speak up well before it gets to the ultimatum stage... so not really an issue for me.

I just asked my wife.

She asked what I was laughing at when I read OP quote.

She said she would never ask me to quit 40k. She knows I enjoy it too much.

Some of you guys need to to get out of the house alittle more. Paint fumes have warped your brains to point of wanting the army dudes instead of the poody.

This really. It's possible you're with someone completely unreasonable (I knew a guy whose wife couldn't stand him playing PnP rpgs - if he wanted to spend Saturday night at the bar, fine with her, but if he spent Saturday night at his friend's place playing a game, as soon as he got there she'd be calling asking when he was coming home) or nom really, your obsession with your hobby is completely unreasonable. In the first place, you're pretty justified in saying 'Sayounara,' and in the second, you're probably going to say 'Sayounara' anyways, but really you're the one with the problem.

Well i do get out of the house alot. Right now i'm single so its not like i'm being dragged down by my ears.
Its just that Women sometimes don't understand Wargaming they like the hobby side.

Once one of my friends girlfriends saw me writing up a storm and asked me what are you doing?

My friend said "its his form of fun."

I looked at them and i said "well you don't understand then, espically if your realtionship will only last 2 weeks."

My friend who was a 40k player too said "i'm betting 1. Once she finds out what he plays."

Then she broke up with him right there on the spot. XD no one won the bet.

I was a Chaos Marine then and i didn't have good social skills.
But needless to say i met tons of girls who love this hobby just because their boyfriends started it. But it is nothing like advertised.
But still it happens almost every day.
i haven't gotten into this mess yet .

seriously though redbeard had it right, if she would be so disrespectful as to do something like that it wouldn't be me choosing 40k over her it would be me choosing not to be with a hateful wench who didn't really get me anyways.

I'd take her to the doctor to figure out what was wrong as such a comment would be terribly out of character for her. I'd no sooner ask her to give up her RPGs as she would ask me to give up my hobbies. Get a better relationship, you did something wrong to get this point. Either you want more of a relationship w/ your mini's than the you do the girl (in which case lookup time management) or you are in a relationship w/ someone that is insecure and/or disrespects you as a person.

Yeah, I'd tell her to get bent, I don't care about much in life but the few things I do like, I love and wouldn't part with my minis. Now, if some guy would walk up to me and say "hey I've got your wife, so give me all your 40k stuff and she'll live" well, that is a different situation.

I would say "Seriously? My game goes or you leave? You will let plastic army men destroy our relationship?"

and then I would wait for an answer...not like I expect this to actually happen, but if it does I have a plan for what to say.
