Thought it would be neat for us oldtime painters to show off our first (or one of our early) painted mini. Here is mine having been painted 12 years ago:

I remember painting all the pieces individually and then glueing them together, only to watch in horror as the paint bond failed and model fell to pieces. I then went back and scraped the paint off in places so I could have a direct plastic to plastic bond. Lesson learned!

Oh and youngsters/newbies can feel free to post thier first models as well

Well I'm far from an "old time" painter. But...

That'd be my first squad from about a year ago. Black reach of course. The front and center standard marine was the actual first model. I spent like 4 or 5 hours on him... Sure doesn't look like it. I was afraid to attempt highlights at the time. XP

@Charlatan and ironking: Dang are those good mini's for your first shot. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with after a few years of experience.
@Warlord Imp: Man that sure sucks; I hope you had copies on your computer or saved to disk.
@Aduro: Now that is what I am talking about!

You know actually I just realized those aren't really legit as my first minis...

I forgot that ages ago, must've been 7th or 8th grade, I tried to get into WHFB. I gave up pretty quickly cuz it's an expensive hobby for a young kid with no job, but I painted a few elves first. As I recall I didn't even prime them. I should dig around and try to find them... Now those would be some entertaining pictures. :p

Well, I started with 40k just this past summer. Here are the first two that I painted (I honestly can't remember which one I finished first). Enjoy!

one of the only models I haven't redone too much, basically just changed his cape and added varnish before the new Necron lords came out.

That's the point I say pony up! Also, let's see some pics from Dakka's most avid painters. Yeah, I am talking to you Redbeard, GreyDeath, Malfred, and LBursley.

Not sure which would be my first, exactly, as I painted up a trio at once. I wanted to experiment with various techniques, being that I had absolutely no practical painting experience, but ended up scrapping that plan half way through the process and did all three the exact same way, since it worked. Sadly, the only pics I have are only 95% complete. Shortly after this was taken, the boys got a wash over the skull and teeth, had their eyes painted red, and got a coat of matte varnish (actually, reverse that order, then add another light coat of varnish to seal my initially overlooked details. Hey, I was excited to finish my first minis...).

This is my first painted mini... Painted in September, I'm a newbie

I was rather shocked when I first tried to paint yellow (on black primer), but in the end it looks rather okish... that is, after about eight white/sunburst layers.

I loved (and still do) scout snipers, I think they're the coolest. In my first bunch of games I used them way too much and lost a lot.

here is a "time line" if you will of my space marine(s) Starting with that first marine you got in the OLD OLD paint kit, I painted him when i was like 13(?) and then on down the line, from DIY chapter age 15-17, Space Wolves age 17-19, White Scars age 20-22, then most recently Ultramarines (WiP) age 22-27.

Thanks! its funny cuz i almost didn't have any of those older figs, my Mom almost threw away a box of stuff, but she looked into it, found a bunch of my figs and saved them for me. I always travel now with that first marine when i play, i like to show the new kids around the shops that you can actually improve your painting with a little practice!

I believe that is the first guy I painted. Bruce #1. Part of Bruce Squad. Painted him probably twenty years ago using my dad's Testors Enamels and the painting guide in the back of Rogue Trader. I'm still in awe of how fantastic those old metallics were. It was like a little jar of mercury. Given what they put in paints back then ... it very well may have been.

This guy actually took the field less than two months ago, leading up a Kommando squad. It's been fun painting extra boyz to go with the original four of Bruce Squad. I joke that it's a "collaborative effort between me and me twenty years ago".

Men, I am not ordering you to attack. I am ordering you to die. In the time that it takes us to die, other forces and commanders can come and take our place.
