Amid the cold backdrop of space, a burst of light flashes followed by a gaping hole. A rift in space connects the physical plane to the immaterial realm. The Black Ship Eternal emerges through the warp, rapidly decelerating back to the physical laws. The hole collapse and the light cease, returning back to once before, endless darkness.

“Incoming transmission,” a ship Servitor chirped. Inquisitor Lord Antonio and Canoness Dianus stood on the bridge, observing planet Cyron I below. “Patch us through,” Antonio ordered. The bridge’s screen switch on, displaying a tall muscular man with braided hair, wild brown beard, and a face worn with battle scars. “This is Captain Urk, state your business or prepared to be blasted into a million pieces,” stated the Space Marine. “I am Antonio, Lord Inquisitor of Ordos Hereticus. A great threat approaches Cyron I. By Inquisitorial Mandate, I demand the Space Wolves requisition their Laser Defense and armed forces to me,” Antonio commanded. The Space Wolf Captain grinned, nodding his head as if in agreement. “No,” he simply said. Antonio frowns in annoyance. “Care to repeat that,” Antonio asked in a razor sharp tone. The Wolves Captain smiled ruefully. “You heard me Imperial dog. We don’t like your kind. Be gone and tell your masters we answer to no one but to the Russ and the Emperor.” The screen goes blank, ending the transmission. “Well that want well,” Dianus commented. “Yeah, at least they talked first before shooting us this time,” said Antonio.

Played a 1000 points game against Space Wolves. We rolled for Mission and got Seize Ground. After placing four objectives, we rolled for deployment and got Dawn of War.

Setting:

The board was setup to look like an Imperial Outpost located in a desert. Over in the top-left corner stood a Bastion. Left middle of the table seated a Skyshield Landing Pad. On the right, a Defense Laser towered over the landscape. Fresh craters from orbital strike peppered the surrounding area.

Army List:

Space Wolves:

-Wolf Lord, Frost Blade, Jump Pack, Melta Bomb
-10 Grey Hunters, Flamer, Mark of Wolfen – Alpha Pack
-10 Grey Hunters, Power Fist, Plasma Pistol, Rhino, Hunter Killer Missile – Beta Pack
-5 Sky Claws, Power Weapon, Flamer, Mark of the Wolfen
-4 Long Fangs, 2 Lascannons, 1 Plasma Cannon – Alpha Fangs
-6 Long Fangs, 2 Heavy Bolters, 3 Missile Launchers – Beta Fangs

Sisters of Battle (Order of Faith):

-Canoness, Eviscerator, Book of St. Lucius - Canoness Dianus
-5 Celestian Retinue, 2 Meltaguns, Immolator
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Brazier of Holy Fire, Book of St. Lucius, Meltagun, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, Smoke – VSS Cath
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Brazier of Holy Fire, Book of St. Lucius, Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, extra armour, smoke – VSS Claire
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Brazier of Holy Fire, Book of St. Lucius, Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, extra armour, smoke – VSS Venice
-Exorcist - Wrath and Ruin

Deployment:

For our four objectives we used Daemonette models.

I placed the first one next to the Planetary Defense Laser

Space Wolves player places his in the center crater.

I place the next one in the right crater.

My opponent places the last objective on top of the Skyshield Landing Pad.

I chose my side of the table and deploy nothing. Space Wolves deploy Alpha Pack front in center. They form a line, holding both center and right crater objectives. Wolf Lord deploys near the Skyshield.

Space Wolves fail to seize the Initiative.

Turn 1 (Sisters of Battle):

A warm hazy glow lit over the horizon, casting a shadow across the rugged desert landscape. Wolf Lord and Alpha Pack under the cover of darkness dug in, readying for the invasion. In the distance, a soft tune of angelic chorus descends upon the complex. Clanking sounds of metal and the roar of engines follows in its wake. The sounds grew louder, reaching a crescendo as the mechanized Sisters assault force storms the compound. The Order of Faith has arrived.

Sisters of Battle enter from centerboard edge. Spearheading the assault is VSS Claire and VSS Venice, driving forward in their Rhinos. Flanking left is VSS Cath. Canoness Dianus moves in from the right. Exorcist Wrath and Ruin trails behind, providing heavy support.

Organist of Exorcist Wrath and Ruin spots the shadowy outline of the Wolf Lord and fires a salvo of rockets. Two missiles streams towards the Wolf Lord, but his acute senses warns him of oncoming danger. He immediately fires up his jumps pack and shoots straight into the air right before both rockets explode. (Hit twice but rolled two ones to wound).

Turn 1 (Space Wolves):

The Wolf Lord lands softly, seeking refuge underneath the Skyshield Landing Pad

Beta Pack’s Rhino drives in on the left side of the board, passing the Bastion.

In its wake follows Alpha Fangs, heading towards the Bastion.

Beta Fangs trotted in from center.

The roar of Jet Engines announces the arrival of Sky Claws. A pack of five jump marines flies in, landing in center.

Alpha Pack repositions near the Planetary Defense Laser, preparing to attack the Sister’s side flank.

Alpha Fangs scurries up the Bastion and setup their Heavy Weapons on top.

Beta Fangs run forward.

Sky Claws run forward.

Turn 2 (Sisters of Battle):

Darkness lifts. Sun slowly rises, illuminating the planet’s surface.

VSS Claire’s Rhino plows into the center crater. Hatch hisses opens and VSS Claire’s squad files out.

VSS Venice’s Rhino pulls up behind Claire’s Rhino. VSS Venice and her Battle Sisters disembarks.

VSS Cath’s Rhino hits the gas and sped left. Her Rhino pops smoke.

Immolator and Exorcist Wrath and Ruin follow behind the main Battle Sister advance.

Exorcist Wrath and Ruin locks onto Beta Fangs and fires a salvo of rockets. Missiles shoot out of the organ tubes, arcing towards the Fangs. Like their Lord, the Fangs possess acute senses. They duck and leap out of harms way. One Long Fang carrying a Heavy Bolter isn’t so lucky. He catches an Exorcist rocket in the face, pulverized into a bloody pulp.

VSS Claire and VSS Venice from their prayers call forth the blessings of Divine Guidance. They unleash hell on Alpha Pack. A torrent of Bolters and burning promethium engulfs Alpha Pack.

Their howls of pain and agony die out are muffled by hail of bolters. Five Grey Hunters perishes in the onslaught. Four battered Grey Hunters turns tail and fled.

Turn 2 (Space Wolves):

Alpha Pack regroups. They leap into the right crater, securing an objective.

Beta Pack’s Rhino continues pushing forward, finding cover behind the Skyshield.

Sky Claws leap on top of the Sky Shield.

Wolf Lord (who I completely forgot) rockets straight into the sky and back flips onto the Skyshield landing pad. He joins the Sky Claws.

Beta Fangs divides their shooting, firing two Krak Missiles at VSS Claire’s Rhino and a Frag and Heavy Bolter at VSS Claire Battle Sisters. Exploding bolt rounds g;ances harmlessly off VSS Claire Battle Sisters Power Armour. However the Missile Frag scatters onto VSS Venice’s squad, and exploding shrapnel slays one Battle Sister.

A Krak Missiles slams into VSS Claire’s Rhino engine compartment, immobilizing the Sisters’ APC.

Alpha Fangs fire simultaneously at the Immolator and VSS Claire Battle Sisters. Two Lascannons shoots towards the Immolator, but intervening cover results in both Lascannon shots missing their quarry. Plasma Cannon explodes on top of VSS Claire’s squad. One Battle Sister is vaporized into a puddle of liquid metal and human product.

Turn 3 (Sisters of Battle):

VSS Venice and her Battle Sisters hops back into their transport and makes a beeline towards Alpha Pack.

VSS Cath’s Rhino lurches forward at a slower pace.

VSS Claire and her Battle Sisters hikes through the crater, advancing towards Beta Fangs.

Immolator speeds left, angling a shot at the Sky Claws hiding on top of the Skyshield.

Immolator spews gouts of flames into the Sky Claws, but their power armor withstands the intense heat.

VSS Claire and her Battle Sisters open fire on Beta Fangs. Heightened awareness combined with enhanced agility causes most of the shooting to either miss or ricohet off the Fang’s Power Armour. One rocketeer gets hit in the head by a bolt round. He slumps to the ground motionless.

A Battle Sister from VSS Cath’s squad pops open the Rhino hatch and shoots at Beta Pack’s Rhino. However, the Meltagun is just out of range and falls short. Meanwhile, the Rhino’s gunner picks off one of the Beta Fangs with a well-placed storm bolter shot.

Rhino gunner from VSS Cath’s immobilized Rhino also picks off one of the Beta Fags. A bolt pierces the squad leader’s armour, exploding from within. He drops to the ground with blood oozing out all over.

Exorcist Wrath and Ruin fires a barrage into Beta Fangs. A Fang carrying a Heavy Bolter drops to the ground just in time as one rocket squashes his partner.

A lone Long Fang carrying a Heavy Bolter stands firm amid his fallen squad members (passes leadership).

Turn 3 (Space Wolves):

Beta Pack’s Rhino intercepts VSS Cath’s Rhino. Beta Pack disembarks.

Sky Claws leap off the Skyshield Landing Pad, landing in front of Beta Pack.

Sky Claws draw their Bolt Pistols and Flamer. They fire into VSS Claire’s squad, but to no effect.

Beta Pack unloads everything they got into VSS Claire Battle Sisters. Four Battle Sisters including a Flamer falls.

Lone Heavy Bolter sprays his Heavy Bolter into VSS Claire’s squad, but his bullets glances harmlessly off the Sister’s power armor.

Alpha Fang locks VSS Venice’s Rhino and Exorcist. The Plasma fails to harm the moving Sisters APC. One Lascannon slams into Exorcist Wrath and Ruin, shaking the crew.

Wolf Lord leads his Sky Claws in assault against VSS Claire and her Battle Sisters.

VSS Claire summons protection from the Holy Spirit. A golden aura surrounds the Battle Sisters. Wolf Lord slashes repeatedly with his Frost Blade, but his attacks hits an invulnerable force field. He hacks down one Battle Sister. Sky Claws, like wise, succeeds in disemboweling only one Battle Sister. VSS Claire and her Battle Sisters attacks back, but are unable to hit or wound the lupine Wolves. VSS Claire stubbornly refuses to retreat and continues to fights on.

Turn 4 (Sisters of Battle):

Venice’s Rhino reaches Alpha Pack. VSS Venice and her Battle Sisters quickly disembark.

VSS Cath’s Rhino parks underneath the Skyshield. VSS Cath and her Battle Sisters march out.

Sisters Command Squad hops out of their Immolator and moves next to VSS Cath’s squad.

Immolator pulls back, providing cover for the stunned Exorcist

VSS Cath invokes the blessings of Divine Guidance. She and her Battle Sisters level their weapons on Beta Pack and unleash hell. A firestorm of burning promethium and hailing bolters washes over Alpha Pack, burning many to a crisp while others hit repeatedly by exploding bolters. Two burnt and battered Grey Hunters surfaces from the inferno.

Both VSS Cath’s and VSS Claire’s Rhino fires into the surviving Grey Hunters, but fails to hit or wound them.

Sisters Command Squad finishes off the survivor. Twin jets skewers both Grey Hunters, leaving smoldering piles of burnt corpses.

VSS Venice’s squad fires into the nearby Beta Pack. Despite the overwhelming volume of shooting, only one Grey Hunter falls (I got cocky and didn’t use Divine Guidance).

VSS Claire summons protection from the Holy Spirit, but the Wolf Lord pierces the invulnerable shield and hacks down VSS Claire and a Battle Sister. One Battle Sister fends off the Sky Claws attacks.

Canoness Dianus quotes an inspiring verse from the Book of St. Lucius, but her words do not reach the lone Battle Sister. The Battle Sister attempts to break free from assault, but the Sky Claws surround her, blocking off her escape. They shove her into the ground and beat her into a bloody pulp. The Canoness shrieks in rage.

Turn 4 (Space Wolves):

Wolf Lord and Sky Claws flee, fearful of the Canoness’ wrath. While up in the air one of the Sky Claws points towards the cornered Alpha Pack. They land behind the VSS Venice and her Battle Sisters.

Beta Pack’s Rhino driver hits the gas, attempting to run down the Battle Sisters. One of Venice Battle Sisters steps forward and fires a meltagun into the oncoming Rhino.

A bright flash blinds the driver as a burning jet of concentrated heat pierces the Beta Pack’s hull, incinerating the driver, and wrecking the Rhino.

Beta Fang blazes his Heavy Bolter into the Sisters Command Squad. One Celestian falls to her knees, clutching a hole between her breasts, before slumping to the ground.

Alpha Fangs split their targets. Las-beam slams into front hull of the Exorcist, stunning the crew while the other dissipates off of the Immolator’s hull. A ball of plasma sails over the Immolator, bouncing off the Exorcist reinforced hull back onto the Immolator.

Plasma seeps into the Immolator’s rear armour, igniting volatile promethium tanks. The Immolator flashes and then explodes into a wrecked bon-fire.

Sky Claws shoots into VSS Venice Battle Sister, killing one Battle Sister. Caught by surprise, the Sisters turn their attention towards the Jump Infantry.

Alpha Pack stands up and rapid fires into VSS Venice’s squad. In a spectacular display of dice rolls, five out of six shots kills.

Wolf Lord and Sky Claws lunges toward VSS Venice’s Battle Sisters.

Venice summons protection of the Holy Spirit, but the Lord stabs her in the gut before she can finish her prayers. He jerks his Frost Blade out of the Sister Superior and swings his blade to the side, lobbing off a Battle Sister’s head. Like before, one Battle Sister holds out against the Sky Claws. With more strengthen resolve, she continues fighting to the bitter end.

Turn 5 (Sisters of Battle):

Sisters Command squad goes after the lone Beta Fang

VSS Cath Battle Sisters spread out, preparing to capture both objectives.

They fail to climb to the top of the Skyshield platform (I rolled a one for running). They do however secure the center objective.

Sisters Command Squad finishes off the last Beta Fang.

VSS Venice’s Rhino rumbles into the right Crater, parking next to Alpha Pack, contesting their objective.

Wolf Lord finishes off the Battle Sister and then consolidates towards the middle.

Turn 5 (Space Wolves):

Sky Claws fires up their jump packs, vectoring into the air. They land just outside of the center Crater.

They run. Wolf Lord leading the pack just makes it, contesting the center objective.

Alpha Fangs blast VSS Cath Battle Sisters with plasma. Two Battle Sisters are reduced to a puddle of metal and human waste. Two Las-beams slams into the Exorcist, dissipating off its reinforced front hull.

By now it was getting late. The store was closing. My opponent and I agreed to end the game. Both center and right objectives were contested.

Outcome: DRAW!

“For Russ and the Allfather," bellowed the Wolf Lord. He flips his Jet Pack on, shooting straight towards the Sisters of Battle. His Sky Claws responded with a feral howl, following their reckless leader into battle. “To arms Sisters,” screamed Canoness Dianus. Her Sisters march in unison, chanting litanies of faith. Both sides crashed in a blur of white and grey. Sky Claws pounce, hacking and slicing their way into the Sisters. Rebellious in nature, they fought independently, indulging in their own bloodlust with their chain swords. Sisters broke off into groups, luring and encircling each claw, before tackling them to the ground. One by one, each Sky Claw was taken out until only the Wolf Lord was still standing.

Dianus and her Celestians surround the Wolf Lord but are unable to contain the wild beast. The Lord lashes out to one Celestian, grabbing her by the neck with his mighty fists. He crushes her in his iron grips and then tosses the lifeless body at another nearby Celestian before skewing them both with his Frost Blade. Canoness Dianus anger flares. She signals the rest of her squad to stand down. She steps forward. The Lord growls an acceptance to the duel and launches himself at Dianus in a fury of attacks. Dianus, nimble on her feat, jumps and weaves around the Lord, parrying his Frost Blade with her Eviscerator. The Lord swung his Frost Blade down at a diagonal, forcing the Canoness to block. Taking advantage of the brief opening, he slams his knee into Dianus’ gut. Pain explodes as the Canoness instantly drops to her knees, clutching her stomach. The Lord kicks the Canoness on her back and stands over her with his frost blade gripped in both hands. “It’s over,” boom the Lord and he plunges his sword down towards the Canoness’ heart. At the last second, the Canoness roll to her side and grabs her Eviscerator, lifting it up towards the Wolf Lord. Just as the Frost Blade slams into the ground, the Lord impales himself on the Eviscerator. Churning teeth saws into his abdomen, slicing into his organs. Hot blood gushes out all over the Dianus and the Wolf Lord collapse dead on top of her. Celestians rush to aid of their Canoness, freeing her from the dead weight. A cheer erupts across the surviving Sisters, celebration of victory.

Great battle!

I hope you treated his Rhinos as open topped...

I actually have a full body tattoo, but it's of an invisibility cloak, so you can't see it.

That rule isn't around anymore, as far as I know... Unless you're thinking of something I'm not.

Shooting out of the top of a rhino doesn't make you OT.
