Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

When my wife plays the orks, they're known as "Purpleanium Predilection" - her orks have discovered a new, purple metal with super choppiness and everyone in her army has decided to make their choppas out of it.

When I play the orks, they're either Ghazghkull's Harem or "The Pink Waaaugh!" I was going with the pink tide, but then realized that was inappropriate. Paint jobs done by my wife, and this is my first attempt at basing...she insists that their home planet is gravelly pink - yes, that is pink glitter. I *REALIZE* that these aren't going to win any golden demon awards; neither of us are very good painters - but at least they're unique and stylish, right?

1. Custom-built tank bustas: Tip of a fantasy mace glued to a pistol on one, the tank-hammer is a cut-off fantasy spear melded with a filed down rokkit-launcha. The third is a shoota melded with the rokkit pack that comes with a killa-kan. I cut the rokkits off, filed them to shape and voila.

2. Sorry if the light is bad for this one - this is four out of five of her boy squads. Each is painted differently for easy recognition on the table.

3. Snikrot. With a freakkin' coke-fingernail that my wife is immensely proud of. Who else can pile onto your rear table edge with such dazzle?

4. His kommando friends, that's who! Snikrot generally comes with two burnas and 12 other kommandos - I made them using pistol arms and dagger arms from a fantasy ork box. Very sneaky / stab you in the back like.

5. Yes...this *is* a big mek with a kustom-force field. When he takes the field, the hope of my enemies droops into despair, for his presence escorts doom across the battlefield.

6. This is the doom himself, Ghazghkull Thraka - the deadliest, killiest ork in da universe. My wife painted him when I had some influence, before she decided to go completely girly on all her models. She commented last night that Ghazghkull needs to be repainted to fit her army, and I promptly hid him. We'll see how this one plays out.

7. Some posing burna boyz.

8. The Pink Waaaugh! waves hello!! And yes, those are pink jumpsuits. Those are rather famous around my parts - few Imperial or Xenos humanoids or vehicles leave the battlefield alive, but those who have go home in shame for having been beaten up by pink orks.

9. Patchwork Waaaugh! banner ork deserves special attention.

10. I didn't take any pictures of the polka-dotted battlewagons, but here's one of the trukks:

The scheme is hilarious, but I think some red and blue washes would make the colours pop more.

I think you should just go with the Pink Tide and run with it. I doubt many will get it.

1. Can you wash something that's been clear-coated already?

2. Hopefully I'll get a tutorial on washing sometime. Its been described to me a couple of times, but I'm a visual learner.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

1) Not sure, probably not easily. Test on something that is not important

2) It is really easy. Just paint it on. If it is too thick, put some water on the model and either wash it down as you go, or wash the wash off and start again with a more watery wash

It is difficult to go wrong really.

But I would love to see an army like this which has been washed (makes so much difference) on the table.

You need to get some of the Ord cheerleaders from blood bowl as I think that will top all of this off nicely!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Gods, this is awesome.

Nice work.

I love the way that you included your other non-pink Orks in the scheme by giving them bright pink bases and flock!

WOW!

A little google searching got me nowhere except a video game for the Xbox 360. More details? Pictures? Notes where I could find them?

Anyhoo, I get a kick out of this army, I'm quite positive you won't see another like it.

I love them and agree that giving them a wash - especially on the uniforms - would help them pop a bit. You *can* wash over a clear coat though it's easier to wash a matte coat than a gloss. I spray paint my necrons and then clear coat them before washes because the metal spray repels water, go figure.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

Hey Jesse! I talked to Randy two weeks ago before he went to Afghanistan; he's hoping to use all that money to reopen the store. Heidi and I are hoping to make a trip down to OP soon - there's a GT in Philly that I'm prepping for (thus the painting and basing here) and Dwight/Chaz are some of the best competition I know (since Randy is gone) so I'm hoping to link up with them for some prepping. Would be fun if you could join the action!

So we're going to be trying washes tonight I think.

Paint mixed with water, brushed over the models, where the paint being brushed over is the same color as what's underneath right? So green wash for green arms, blue wash for blue clothes, etc?

More or less. You're better using actual inks than watering down paint. It's a better quality and you'll see better results, but it's not a big deal either. You want a darker version of whatever color you're using so that it fills the recesses of the muscles, cloth, etc. I brush it right into the creases, trying to leave it off the surface area as much as possible. Creates a good shading effect that is really popped if you highlight and/or drybrush.
