Hey ho,
This is my first post on this forum, so Hi all.

Just thought i could start by sharing my efforts to get a half decently painted 40k army together while spending as little money as possible.
Naturally I chose the Orks for two main reasons;
1) One may get some cheap units from the Black reach set off E-bay
2) One may get away with building Orky vehicles from spare parts and leftover bits without having to be too neat or even too talented.

so anyway, with point two in mind; here are my scratchbuilds, any comments or suggestions will be most welcome, and if anyone is interested in seeing the under construction pics, i can post them too. Most of the stuff is built from Imperial guard stuff, specifically heavy weapons team Bits, and Tank accessories.
Enjoy!

Ork Warbuggy;

DeffDred;

Grot 'Tank';

and some grots with the buggy;

Hope you liked them, and maybe even felt inspired to make your own stuffs, I would love to make more, But i'm running low on bitz now :(

No need to apologize, I agree completely, I actually started it as a Killa Kan, but when compared to a SM dred, i realized that it was far too big, So i use it as a Deff Dred. I have been looking at ways to add some more "arms" but there isnt really enough space.

The warbuggy Body is made from IG tank bits, Specifically the extra track covers, SM Rhino headlights, and back hatch, the Leman Russ dozer blade attachment, some SM bike wheels, some catachan Flamer back packs, some cardboard and bits of Biro.

The Grot tank is made from the back end of an Ork Wartrakk and some IG Bits.

Yeah, ive been thinking about this, maybe ill add some claws and call it a killer can for rules purposes, or swap the Auto cannon for a flamer and call it a scortcha.

If you made several more miniature tanks with Grots inside, you could field them as a squadron of Big Gunz. Killa Kans also work fine, though you'd need something to consider a close combat weapon.

Bear in mind that I'm a very casual player, and any advice I give will reflect that tendency.

So i decided that the most appropriate way to use The grot tank would be essentially as a Killer Kan, since i would quite like it to be able to move and shoot, and bear in mind that it is crewed by a single grot.
So i have been playing about with adding a pair of Klaws.

Here is one all built up, and painted in place, To add another, i will have to go buy the Gretchin box again, but it's only 8pounds, and im actually quite keen on the little buggers.
So, please let me know if you think it's worth it.

I like the grot tank with the klaws, it's going to look like a crab just like a killa kan, dread, and the nobs w/ pk in the 10 man boyz box....or at least my nobs from that box looks like a crab

I like the kitbashes, and if you use the grot tank, you can always use it as a looted wagon, it would be a shame not to use the model. So the grotz looted it from sum udda boyz, so what, its still looted.

Welcome to the addiction, ork scratchbuild/kit bashing is one of the more addictive aspects of playing Orkses ^_^

I meaan, most all the other races get stuck with stuff that all looks the same- whereas orks are supposed to look different

Aye, Calling it a "looted wagon" would be ideal, but there are specific rules about Them, and really they are based on the Orks looting full sized tanks, like Rhinos or Leman Russ'. As in, theyinclude multiple ork crew and transport capacity, which isn't really appropriate for something which is about the same size as a Bike. Good suggestions though, thanks!

and thanks for the feedback!

I may actually have a bash at simply making a Right side Claw with a green stuff mold, Ive had limited success with that technique in the past, but it's certainly worth a shot instead of forking out more money on a Grot box.

Ill let y'all know how it goes, if you are interested.

Ok, so here are the results of my attempt at simply copying the Claw, instead of having to go out and buy another Gretchin box, If anyone is interested in this technique, as it is incredibly useful when you need a specific part then im happy to answer any questions.

Here the mould has been made, It was a real pain to get it out all in one piece, and it took quite some time with a scalpel to get it cleaned up.

And here it is in place next to the other one. as you can see, it's quite a bit thicker than the original, this is partly because i had to re-enforce it with araldite, as it was quite fragile.

And here is the finished "Killa Kan".

I'm actually applying for a Job at my local GW, so im rather hoping little gubbinz like this will improve my application.

As always, feedback, or questions are welcome!

The grot tank looks especially menicing, like something out of an old cartoon, which I love.

Wow, Thanks everyone for all the feedback! It really makes it all worth while!

One last thing, i didn't think he needed a thread of his own, so here is my warboss, from the AOBR box courtesy of e-bay. His name is Bignutz Beefhart.

Thanks again for all the kind words!

howdo,
here is a quick update if anyone is interested,

I used coffee stirrers from starbucks for the back of the trukk, it doesn't look as good as the stock panels, but i wanted to keep them, and as many bitz as possible from the trukk kit to build other things.

as usual critique and feedback are welcome, thanks!

Peace, love and wargames!

You've got some great stuff here,I love the way you did the rickety wood slats on the back of your trukk.
I also love your "grot tank",very cool,but,if you plan to use it as a "counts as" Killa Kan (wich I belive I read),you have one to many claws,killa kanz only have one claw.
Still,very cool stuff.
