About to hit this with paints for entry in a conversion contest. My first attempt at converting a Carnifex into a T-fex. Whilst finishing this, I decided the gun needed to be beefier to be a Rupture Cannon; next version will have a bg scratch-built mouth cannon, and this one will be used as an Acid Spray.

I'm not making it as large as some T-fexes I've seen online; it fills an oval base, which feels fine to me to warrant 6 wounds, and as a Codex unit I wanted it to be closer in size to my Carnifexes than my Heirodules.

All of the major parts I've made for it are duplicates of a master set, I'll be making copies of my final T-fex design to sell.

Please note: this is a Tyrannofex, which is basically a Carnifex with 6W, 2+sv, less brutal charges, and a big gun. This is not a Tervigon, which is the unit that births units of Gaunts.

I'm still learning the ropes with indoors miniature photography, final paintjob will be photographed properly.

Very cool. I haven't seen any quadrupedal Carnifexes before. Also, the placement of the cannon is nice, makes me think that there should be a gunner on his back.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

It kinda looks too skinny to be a Tyrannofex, it looks a bit like a horse due to the legs.

The greenstuff work is excellent.

But it's far too lanky and horse-like. I would at least beef up the legs a bit.

Interesting idea, but the model definately needs bulking up. It's hard to believe this has the potential to spew forth massive numbers of gaunts in it's current form.

This is a Tyrannofex.

Tervigons are the ones that gak gaunts.

I plan to make a Tervigon (Gaunt mother) variant on this concept with a heavily pregnant belly and birthing tube that make her look the part.

OMG! You make the dinonids! That t-fex looks great! Are those legs custom or did you pick them up somewhere?

With regard to the points about general bulkiness: it's a very difficult thing to balance. When you see the front legs on the torso, they're already almost too thick at the shoulder. I'm going to wait and see how it looks painted before experimenting with bulking up. I was actually aiming for a horse-like look, with Dinosaur elements.

I made master models of the legs, and this is the second pressing from the moulds. First pressing was for a commission, which is still WIP - will be making a gallery of it as it gets painted. I'll be making more pressings of them for sale once I've got the current lot out the way :3

Looking through your gallery, I can say, while I'm not crazy about the Dinonids concept, there's no question that the way you went about doing it is fantastic!

However, I absolutely love the Lictors you did. Especially the one eating the Flamer guys' brain. It reminds me alot of Aliens in the scene where Dietrich accidentally flames Frost after she's ambushed by the Aliens XD.

Oh boy I love the skeletal horse dino t-fex posted on this thread. But you should definatley bulk it up a bit. But if you keep it like this I'll be more than happy about it.

Whoops my bad - I saw T-Fex and though Tervigon. I've got Tervigons on the brain (looking at too many conversion options..)

In that case, go nuts. If the thinner model fits an overall army theme, no drama. My instinct says to bulk it out nonethe less.

Keep updating & good job - will be watching this closely - I haven't seen a completed Tyronnofex conversion yet!

Just as a suggestion,

The lean look is kindof nice, but the gun assembly is a bit weedy and does not seem to be a integral part of the critter,
And since the tyrannofex is supposed to be mainly gun,
I present my solution to weedy gun syndrome,

Please pardon me for saying that it looks like the rupture cannon could be taken out by a ratling sniper,

No, that's cool, I'd drawn similar conclusions myself and am going to use this creature as an Acid Spray T-fex as it looks more the part for this. I like what you've done there, though I'm currently working on a second version with a mouth-mounted RC similar to the (now obsolete) Venomfexes in my gallery:

Will update this thread with WIP pics as the project comes along...

The 'horse of doom' look is unusual, but if it fits the look of the rest of your army, then great - I love to see original looking Hive Fleets.

The only think I'm not keen on is the big gun - it looks too stranglerish for my taste, and personally I'd prefer an 'imbedded in the back carapace' look. But that's just me...

Id have to agree with most on the being to skinny. Its all in how you want it to look though. all the sculpting looks great

I agree it has a horse/panther-y look to it, but I completely like it and would change nothing (about the overall frame and stance). Call it a planetary adaptation, or don't call it anything at all - in a race which has literally numberless mutations, there isn't any particular reason it needs to look like a stock anything. It looks lean, fast, and hungry.

Thank being said, I would modify the gun slightly, only in that it doesn't appear to be a core part of the unit, and seems a little "bolted on". I'd simply move it back an inch or two and lower the barrel to change the centering of it which would definitely make it look more integrated.

This, and the other conversions you have done, are truly remarkable.

Couldn't say it in a better way! I especially like the horse-like legs.

Did it with a single carnifex kit?

I agree with everyone else, due to the legs it looks to skinny and fast, when its supposed to be big and slow. And i'm not so sure about the rupture cannon above its head i though on its underbelly would look etter

Almost, needed two sets of Frag Spines to make the shoulders - apart from that, all from the one kit. And the offcuts from those two carapaces actually can be transferred to another kit to make a regular Carnifex, so in all it's a pretty efficient setup.

Big and slow, according to who? Sure, they're big, and the DoW2 game shows them as ponderous - but in tabletop 40k, are they actually described as "slow" anywhere? The site just calls them "engines of destruction". Are they not classified as Monstrous Creatures, which generally use the movement rules as infantry? Is there some reason that this would not be considered as fast as a Gaunt? I'm at work, so don't have my rulebook or codexes.

Not only is this a great bit of converting, the model isn't going to be mistaken for another carnifex, a problem facing some tyrannofex models I've seen.

I really like this and it harks back in a certain way to the Dominatrix bio titan of epic yesteryear.

Big thumbs up from me.

As described in page 53 of the tyranids new codex "Given its massive bulk, the tyrannofex is a ponderous beast and is prone to being overwhelmed if engaged in close combat... supported by 3 pairs of massive legs". I take this to mean that its huge and cannot move very fast, i know it moves the same way as infantry since its an MC, but i think it looking slower fits in more with the fluff.

IMO it would have been cool to see Armoured Shell bring with it Slow And Purposeful, and perhaps Eternal Warrior. Might have prevented D weapons from sweeping away, like everything...

My Carnifexes are also quadrupeds, and all in charging or galloping poses (again, pics to follow at some point); a plodding pose makes my T-fex look more ponderous by comparison :3

I do like the conversion, but something in the back of my head tells me that it should look a bit more.. chunky? Not as big as the pic in the codex (which looks like the spider thing out of doom2), just a little larger in the midriff region; although i guess this would have involved a heck of a lot more modeling work.

Still, me likes
