Well I'm back from vacation and ready to get back into it. We just had 9 days in Ireland. Drank lots of whiskey, stayed in a castle, flew two different hawks, drank lots of cider, walked a lot, saw standing stones, drank lots of Guinness. Visited 2 Games Workshop stores plus an independent store in Dublin area, and also found a sweet independent store in Cork. That is where I got my Blood Angels codex. I find it funny, but the cost was 25Euro, so it was about $33 USD. But I got it in IRELAND so it is better! I also got that new Beastman Shaman guy to paint up as a souvenir. He will, of course, be done with green as major color.
As for this thread: Thanks everyone for the compliments... It is very encouraging, and I really do need it!
@krusty: The girl with Inferno pistol and sword is the current canoness. That mini actually has great hand options. Scroll, book, sword, inferno pistol and bolt pistol (I might have missed one). All mine end up used on various models, and I end up wanting more of the scrolls and books.
So now a text only update. I'm entering a local painting contest. The contest is 1000 points, with structured points awarded in painting, basing, and converting. Time frame is 8 weeks from yesterday (Sunday April 11). So I'm going to try to do enough to score well in all categories.
My list:
Canoness, jump pack, Cloak, mantle, inferno pistol, blessed weapon: 145pts
Battle sisters squad, 10 total, including veteran with bolter and book, flamer, meltagun, imagifer, rhino with smoke: 218pts
Battle sisters squad, 10 total, including veteran with bolter and book, flamer, meltagun, imagifer, rhino with smoke: 218pts
Seraphim, 5 total, 2 flamers, veteran
Celestian squad, 5 total, flamer, meltagun, imagifer, veteran with combiflamer, meltabombs and praesidium, add priest with auspex, carapace, meltabombs, boltpistol and eviscerator. Mount in Immolator with smoke launchers: 285 pts
I may have missed grenades here and there, but that at least covers the models to be used. This list was chosen to allow me to use the models I have, and also maximize visual impact. Thus the imagifers... the banners will offer great options for freehanding. I also have some intentions to try freehand on the tanks. Plus, only 32 infantry and 3 tanks. A manageable number.
Painting I'm pretty confident with. I'll stick with my current paint schemes so everyone matches, but try to paint to a better quality level. Add the freehanding and I should get full points here.
Now, admittedly I'm not really big on converting. This is probably due to me mucking up even simple weapon swaps on sisters. But I've acquired some cool mechanical wings to add to the jump canoness. I intend to green stuff it up a little, too. We will see what else I can do! The tanks either have
FW doors/front or else other parts swap type conversions. The Immolator is an oldschool immolator turret to be magnetized on the
FW immolator conversion kit.
Basing will involve... something. At the very least, I'll add slate chips, sand, static grass, and some cogs/gears. I've considered purchasing some cast bases, but haven't found anything that is both super-duper-ultra-awesome but still cheap. If anyone has suggestions for bases, please help! I'd prefer something that has either an urban rubble or else temple like. Cheap would be approx $1 USD / base, +/-.
Yesterday I stripped any models that had anything partially done or were double primed. Still waiting for the conversion bits to make final decisions, and need to fix a gap in my Immolator. Pictures will arrive when there is something more to show!
