First of all, I'm new to Dakka so I'd like to say hi to everyone. I was wondering what all of you thought of my painting. This specific model is a salamanders terminator and is currently not sealed. If you have any comments of suggestions feel free to leave it. I first found this site through LBursley's painting tutorials. Also, you can see the style and arrangement of my photos were copied from him (sry ) since I think his painting looks great. I'm planning on making a full squad of them, so please tell me if any of the color schemes should be changed.

^ I agree. This looks really good detail wise, but the armor needs some highlighting. Also, I see this as more of a DA green as opposed to Salamanders.

What green would be for Salamanders?

I'm not very good at thick even highlights. Ussually the lines are uneven and end up ruining the model. Know any tutorials or tips to help me with this?

Also, I was wondering how the lighting and photo taking was. It looks pretty good to me

Mix the smallest drop of yellow or white into the paint you used for the armor. I think this looks amazing as it's a dark green that I always figured a lava planet should have procured. The Emo Angels can have the lighter green.

Salamanders have a much lighter and brighter color green, check out LB's tutorial for them and you'll see what I mean.

Yea...that's what I've heard a lot. Well, this is my brother's model and he doesn't do themed armies. He prefers squads of all different colors/chapters and he doesn't really care if it is a Salamander, he mainly just wanted a green squad. I just called it a Salamander because it is basically the only green chapter. Anyways, I think everyone should be able to have their own interpretation.

Could use some fire effects, let alone orange so that it can be salamander-ish. Also a better base would be nice.

You have painted a pre heresy Salamander in a post heresy terminator armour.
Nothing wrong with that of course, it is you army and your taste that it most important.
If you follow the fluff closer though they have a lighter green tone and ornamentation of symbols that are hammers, fire, flames and dragons (firedrakes).

Here are two of my own minis for some idea inspiration should you wish to proceed on the fluff path with their official colour scheme (kind of anyways).

More can be seen in my gallery.

Good luck with whatever paint theme you choose dude and remember, Salamanders rock!

I'm not very good at basing. In fact, I leave most of my bases black and plain.

@ Pyriel, I think your painting is great! However, for my taste I don't like all those flames and those really EXTREME highlights. I will try to work on highlighting marines however, yours is a bit too much for my taste. But..thanks anyways for trying to help

That extreme glowiness is unique, that's for sure.
But as for the OP's model, it's very neat. I like. Highlighting is good but you've got a nice neat foundation to work with, good job so far.

TheWoosta: Its painted better than i could do it.

Pyriel-: You are a kick a** painter i have to say. Stupid on how the fluff says they are coal black with red eyes (Like seriously who came up with that?) Quick question, how do you do the skin on your salamanders? Im thinking about painting some of my models (like Telion) with dark skin. Could you help me out?

The white looks nicely done, but honestly I thought he was black until everyone started mentioning the green...

So I would join the chorus in suggesting a paler green.

Meanwhile, Ultra mortalitas, please take it to PM rather than hijacking someone else's thread.
