Dude, if you're not going to have clear process and documentation behind these kinds of statements, you can potentially get yourself and/or Dakka in trouble for defamation / slander.

They're not backing the crooks, they're backing the DakkaDakka website. They are trying to keep a lawsuit from happening (caused by you stating that they committed a crime without first giving them due process of the law). This can cause major problems for the website. What if DakkaDakka got sued because they let you slander and defame innocent people? Would it be worth it to you?

Personally, I would love to have a list of traders that have not met their end of the bargain, so that I know who to trade with (or not trade with), but unfortunately from a legal standpoint that is just not a good idea.

There is a simple way around this. The thread should be wored as follows:

"Traders which other users have reported issues with. These are traders that have, according to another user, have not met their end of the bargain. Please also check the reputable trader list before making your decision".

That way it's not defamation just a list of reported issues.

I would also suggest linking to the particular place on Dakka where the OP states that these issues have been raised just to cover all angles.

A better way to go about this is to petition the Mods of the forum to create such a thread. Given they hold domain over everyone and their souls on the forum (a la Chaos Gods), giving them the idea and allowing them to act upon it is good. It means you don't get in trouble by taking the initiative where you really don't have one (unless your a decent person and are offended by others who do bad things; it means you have a positive moral compass so good for you, but it still means you did something beyond your powers).
