The following will be a snapshot into my building of a Necron army... Wish Me luck.
When I started this hobby there were a few of the races that really spoke out and made me interested in the hobby. Even though I ended up starting with Tyranids and it has and will always be my primary army I as many other gamers are tempted quite often. During the past few weeks I let myself succumb to one of those temptations. I found a great deal on some new Necrons and now own a Necron Warrior Phalanx and an additional Monolith with 5 more Destroyers on the way.
Now I realize that there have been rumors around for quite awhile now that a new Necron codex is on the horizon... some day. From what I gather this would probably be in Fall at the earliest since next is the Missions book, then Blood Angels, possibly some WHFB after that. Honestly, I don't think a new Necron codex will be out any time soon. I suppose it doesn't matter as I would like to take the time to make this look good So I bought them in a hopes to be unique on the table and to bring some variety to my painting table.
But now I have 48 Warriors, 12 Scarabs, 11 Destroyers, 2 Monoilths, and 1 Res Orb Lord in the painting Que (That is over 2000 points). Im thinking that I will try some sort of weathered metal for all the joints maybe a white armor or something else and with blue rods and glow. Currently I am converting the Warriors to be "Walking" since I think their wide stance is a little lame.

Nice, subtle conversions so far- hopefully these Necrons will have a little more variation than the standard models!

I need to figure out some other conversions to do to everything. Honestly the models are not all that convertible sadly. If anyone has any ideas other than just "walking" I would appreciate the input I have plenty more warriors to build.

While my updates have lacked my work has not. I took some pictures a night or two ago of my progress as well as a few things I received in the mail.
New Stuff In:
Blue Acrylic Rods
Assorted Plasticard
White Pasticard Rods
Destroyers
What I Did:
Finished building the first 10 Necron Warriors
Primed 9 of them (Missed one somehow)
Base Coated 2 Warriors and the Lord
Started trying to figure out how I am doing to do the freehand and the layering.
I decided on trying to do something like [url=http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-res&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Feleves.mines.inpl-nancy.fr%2F~duclos87%2Ffredcorpfigsnecron.html&lp=fr_en&btnTrUrl=Translate]What this guy did..[url] but I am having a hard time with getting it even close at all.
I have done some work since the pictures were taken so hopefully at the end of the night tonight I can take some more and post them with the progress since this post.
Edit: Seems Firefox for Mac doesn't want to let me add in Attachments... Oh well.. Safari doesn't seem to mind if I do it.

i think the best part of necrons is the fact theyr'e all just walking forward in the same way. Makes is "scarier" to imagine easier to imagine them as a souless army jsut walking forward until they sense they're in range and they simultaneously aim there gauss guns...

I'm glad that there are a few people following my progress. I had this week off so I have spent quite a bit of time working on the Necrons so things will slow down after tomorrow but Im going to try my best to chug along and as long as there is interest in seeing what I do with them I will keep posting.
To the real stuff...
New Items:
2x Pointing Hands
Unknown Item - I didn't pick up a package from my dads house. Thus, No idea.
Built:
11x Destroyer Bodies (2x totally Done)
10x Magnetized Flying Bases
10x Warriors (all converted)
3x Swarm Bases
Conversions -
Warriors:
4x Kneeling
2x Yelling
1 Pointing
1 Walking
1 Creeping Around Corner (Needs Hand)
5x Gun Changes
I will be honest I can't really figure out what if any conversions I would do for the Destroyers. The only thing that I saw that was at all interesting was just facing them backwards but I don't really like the way they look when they are facing that way.
Right now Im trying to build a good base of models so I can start to play some of the lists that I am looking to run. I will be playing tomorrow at my local game store probably doing 1000 and 1500 games. Which you can find below (Necron lists are quite boring and I will skip the 500 Points... Really.. what are YOU going to take at 500 points? Only really one option.)
1000 Points:
Lord - Res Orb
Warrior x10
Warrior x10
Destroyers x3
Destroyers x3
Destroyers x4
Or just trade the 4 Destroyers for 11 Warriors
1500 Points:
Lord -Res Orb, Veil
Warriors x10
Warriors x10
Warriors x10
Destroyers x5
Destroyers x4
Destroyer Lord - Chronometron, Shroud
Scarab Swarms x10
There is still plenty to look forward to... Possibily Immortal and Flesh conversions... maybe.
3 Monoliths
Finish Destroyers maybe with some conversions if anyone can think of anything cool.
Tons more warriors. (suggestions on conversions welcome)
Scarabs hopefully with interesting bases
Buy+Build+Convert Destroyer Lord
And LOTS of painting.

For your destroyers, you could try making them look like the tomb spiders by adding legs, then build a pair of claw-guns at the front to make it look like a scorpion. Or you could mount the weapon on a wraith tail, attach that to the back of the body to act as a 'sting'.

So yesterday I received my third Monolith in the mail! I also received the thicker acrylic rods im going to try to use as crystals on the ground.
I was also able to get my first two small games in. I won both!
1000 points v.s. Chaos Table Quarters Annihilation
Necrons:
Lord 2 Squads of warriors
2 squads of 3 Destroyers
Heavy Destroyer
CSM:(forgive I don't totally remember)
2 oblit squads of 3
vindicator
khorne marines in rhino
reg marines in rhino
I camped in the corner and disabled his Rhinos as they came to me. Killed his Khorne and Marine unit as well as some other stuff as they got close walking. Lots of glancing on those rhinos = owned. I won 4 to 2 I believe.
1000 points v.s. Eldar
Necrons:
Lord w/Res Orb
10 Necron Warriors x2
3 Destroyers x2
4 Destroyers
Eldar:(Don't know the names all that well.)
Farseer with Fire Dragons in a wave serpent
Wraith guard Squad
Ranger Squad
Pathfinder Squad
2 Weapon Platforms (Destroyer cannon?)
This game was kinda lame we both had the same plan. Sit back pick each other off and then steal the objective at the end.
He ended up deploying the Weapon platforms too far away and had to move them a few times to do anything. I used the destroyers to pick off anything they could see. In the end I threw my last few destroyers at his objective and he used everything he could to kill them but didn't end up moving in range of it to take it himself. Thus when the last turn came up I had one he had nothing.
As for modeling and whatnot I haven't gotten much of a chance to work on the models.
@CadianXV - I think what I may do is have a squad of 5 normal, 5 with the cannon shoulder mounted, and when i get 4 more then 5 with the tail which i will make on my own via plasticard.
I did use some of my hobby time to stray from the path of the Necrontyr and I picked up a Warmachine Battlebox and started cleaning and putting those models together as well.

You should do some battle damage conversions, and even make some of them look like they shouldn't even be able to fight...I'm thinking necrons missing legs using their last leg and an arm to walk with the gun in their other arm...you have to do one holding his own head cradled in one arm and pointing the gun in the other. Theres nothing like gunning down 6 of those bastards and watching 5 stand back up and shoot your marines to bits =/

If there is one thing I am bad at its posting on forums consistently. If there was another its getting distracted by other projects.
From Sisters of Battle, Tyranids, Malifaux, Warmachine, MTG, Moving, No job, new job, and all the way back to where I started I am working on the Necrons again and hopefully this time I will end up with a nice new fully painted army overtime.
Updates will be slow (hopefully not) but I will try to actually update. For now here are some quick pictures I took with my phone.
