This was a brainstorm i had by imagining an upscaled Assault terminator


Thunderclad Dreadnought: 175 points

Type: walker

Wargear: Left Arm: Thunderfist* with built in Storm bolter, Right Arm: DCCW with built in storm bolter, Smoke launchers

*Thunderfist: a powered gauntlet that has had an energy field generator built into it to provide extra protection. a Thunder shield is a DCCW that also provides a 5+ invulnerable save against any damage result

Options: may replace one or both built in Storm bolters with heavy flamers for 10 points each

May replace its DCCW with a seismic hammer for 10 points

May take Extra armor at the cost listed in the C:SM entry for dreadnoughts

One problem. You will run into TFG. Saves are only made against wounds and a dreadnought is never wounded as it is a vehicle. I'd up the points & make it count as obscured from shooting attacks. Or Lower the points and make it 5+ Obscured from shooting.

IIRC you can't be obscured from melee.

So Bjorn's invul can't be used? I'd bet even Gwar! would say the RAW says you can.

Reword it so it says he gets an invul against any damage results.

If he runs into TFGs that lets him play a houserule dread, but not letting him use a invul save then I'd be really surprised

I was thinking of using a left over Storm Shield and slapping it on a DCCW. Any other ideas?

I recently saw some of the Black Templar SSs from Forge World and they were Sweet. Tell me how that thing only gives a 4++ save in combat, It Flipping HUGE

That's what I meant, just that it needed rewording. Personally I wouldn't care but also wasn't Bjorns save FAQ'd to settle that debate?

As a side note I'm currently in a security policies class so I've become very picky about wording .

This is the best idea i`ve seen in the proposed rules until now. I know I would love to play a dreadnought like that.

I just happen to have a AOBR dccw in my bits box. once assembled i will put some pics up.

It looks balanced enough to me.

Sounds liek a good idea to me. Nice and Balnced, not too overpowered. It makes up for the save by ot having any long range heavy firepower.

I'd be happy to play against it in a game

my termies stormshields were to puny for my taste so i switched them out for the small clear bases i had left over with these useless models i had lying around called gun drones. but anyway, maybe use a large clear flyer base as a dreadnought stormshield, paint putty and decorate it with some chapter wear. just a thought
