Last night I had a great game against Dexy's Mech Guard. We used the new Scenarios. (I got my ass handed to me)
But I managed to get a few snaps of the game and decided to have a quick play is PS
Here are the first couple

Very good feeling in these. Would it be allright with you if I printed these ones to use as handouts to my Dark Heresy roleplaying group? I'm sure they would appreciate the look.

Wow, Grandmaster, these are very nice! They remind of some of the photos I've seen in Imperial Armor books.
I'm curious to know the software you used. Was it Photoshop elements or something else entirely?

Im a pro photographer, but I mainly do portraits of people. I used Photoshop CS4 and OnOne suit 5 to add the affects. It only took about half an hour to do these! It was fun
Thanks for the kind words

These look great, but I feel the focus goes off too far to escape the "minis on a table" look. A deeper field of focus might help.
Again, the processing on these is awesome.

I agree! But it was F2.8 30th sec at 1600 iso so i was pushing it! It was dark in the store!

Haha, yes, uhuh.... No clue what you just said there
Anyway, I wanted to say they look really great. There seems to be a lot of height difference in the terrain? It doesn't have the usual "here's a terrain piece, and here's the table" look to it.

I think these have a cool look.
If you want some constructive criticism, or even if you don't , I would say increase the depth of field next time.
It would be cool to be able to make out the enemy across the field a little better. And the focus falls off too fast to look like a real scene.
As you're a portrait photographer, I'm sure you love shooting wide open, but I think more depth of field would help here.
Let me know what you think of mine!!

He said that he use a lens with a large opening (F2.8) left the shutter open for 1/30th of a second and used very sensitive "film" (ISO1600) to absorb the light. Very nice photographs, what do you shoot? I have a Nikon D200 I use for fun, and some weddings.... I understand about the lowlight, did you not have your shoe flash with you to help with the low light? A lite amount of flash with a larger F-Stop would have been amazing!
Jim
P.S. I would love to see more!

Hi Disciple_SoC,
These were shot on a D300 without flash as i was using the 17-55 2.8 therefore an on camera flash would not have worked as I would have been to close! I could have moved the flash off camera but as I was playing a game I didn't have time!
The D300 is not my main camera. In the studio I use a Hasselbald H3D - 31 and a Hasselbald 503cw with a phaseone P20 digital back. These ate great but I dont want them hanging around my FLGS
Check out our web site http://www.hamiltonstudios.com have a look at our FB page for more recent work

@DISCIPLE_SoC: Thanks for the explanation.
It's a great looking table and really helps to make the photo's look realistic.
