time to add more bugs

Working on my gargoyles and here's a test model. I wanted to do something a little different instead of plain ole drybrushing so I thought I'd try something different with the guns, added some color and tried to make it kinda resemble the facehugger skin color. Does it work? or should I just keep everything all black? I added the spinegaunt in the pic for reference, before I just made everything all black & drybrushed.

Gonna be doing a squad of these guys, then a pyrovore and then maybe I'll finish painting the genestealers that I got when they where new... also thinking about maybe investing in a heirophant...

Nice, the Gargoyle looks amazing. As for the Spineguant... the colours are off between the head and body, but aside from that it's fine.

the spinegaunt is an old one, that's how all my older ones are, the newer models are more black like the gargoyle So it's like an old vs new comparison shot.

I'm also gonna be changing the scheme a little, so the regular "skin" kind of areas get a litght drybrush with space wolf gray, and mithril silver on the shells, but the teeth and talons and spikey bitz will get pure mithril silver with some black wash for depth, seems to make em pop a lot more.

I'll work on lightening up the guns a bit. I also did the wings as black with a light was of dark flesh for a dark brownish color. I think it was the 3rd movie where they made the alien more brownish than black. So I wanted to tie some of that in too

Glad I never got the old metal gargoyles. These new ones are great, easy & fun to build and lots of detail

Nice. Yes, that slight bit of colour variety adds a lot, avoids that 'I just drybrushed everything' look.

Yeah the Gargoyles seem to be a cool kit, just need to finish the nids I have and I will absolutely get me some!

they are great looking but its not the most original idea. but well done.

I like it. If anything, I'd make the wings a bit more fleshy, maybe an additional highlight with a scorched brown/bleached bone mix?

OK here's an update, I went back over the wings with a few quick layerd washes of watered down iyanden darksun, I think I like em better this way. Tried to get a better shot of the gun, but I suck at taking model pics.

Thanks I think I'm just gonna stick with this. Thinking about adding some warriors with the FW wings, if so I'll prolly do those wings the same way.

Can you still show us finished models as those are droolworthy.

Of course will be a little while though. I paint slow in my old age :(

next on the list for nids I have some genesealers to finish, that I bought when they redid them in plastic and just never finished painting. Also some old original metal reveners, and for new stuff I have a pyrovore on deck and I'm thinking of doing a swarmlord eventually and give it a huge alien queen head, bigger than the one I already did

But, I'm gonna switch gears and get some lizardmen done next
