I picked up 20 of both the Mantic Skeletons and Ghouls at Adepticon (for about $35!!) and wanted to do a comparison to similar
GW models as I, and no doubt other people, are looking to use these models to fill out existing
WHFB units.
First off, the Mantic models are great. They go together easily, have minimum flash, and have lots of detail. One thing I don't like on the Skeleton sprue is that the shields are molded on. Not a dealbreaker, but kind of annoying.
Anyway, here is a side by side comparison of the Mantic and
GW Skeletons:
Pretty close in size though you can see the Mantic version is more true-scale than the
GW version (smaller hands, weapons, and head).
To bring them closer, I chopped the head off one Mantic Skellie and added a
GW head:
Pretty darn close!
Here is the last sample, using a
GW head and a
GW weapon arm:
I may even cut the shields off of one or two and replace them with
GW shields and when painted I think the whole unit will still look cohesive.
On to the Ghouls.
Side by side comparison:
Different aesthetics between the two models but both great sculpts. The coolest thing is that the Mantic Ghoul is 3 pieces while the
GW ghoul is 5 which gives more variety, but those arms are a bit of a pain to assemble.
Here's a Mantic Ghoul with a
GW head:
I could probably use those side by side.
Group shot of all 3:
There you go. Personally, I'll probably mix the
GW and Mantic Skeletons in a single unit but when it comes to the Ghouls, I'll probably use one as the base and use the other as the "summoned" troops. I haven't decided which company I'll use as base yet though...
