This is the first space marine i have painted in a long time. The red armor is completed I am going to be doing a LOT of NMM gold on this model. I must say that the new blood angels are well worth the money, the kit is just amazing. Best kit i have picked up in a while.

Looks great Keep it up, maybe a small highlight of red for the very edges might make it pop, non-metallic gold sounds good good luck with the process ill be watching to see how it goes (:

What colours/stages do you paint your red in?

I start with red gore, And add blood red progressively until i hit a plain blood red color and from there i add golden yellow to make the final highlighted colors. Layering technique as always though. Feathering the colors together at the highlights to get a better blend. The picture really doesnt show a good pop, but there is one. The transition is a subtle one from red to orange for highlight.

Here is some progress...Be gentle on the NMM, im rusty lately at it...The blends arent perfect, but i think i got the lighting. I want a cold steel feel to it. i added blue to tint the grey, hard to see on the finished product though, im kind of embarrassed to show it this early though.

I went with old school blood angels, Red and Black. That gold just was too, bright? I dont know, when i think of blood angels i think of badass holy soldiers.

lol, to each their own. Some people paint with saliva, ya know?

Cold steel NMM comes across well. Would like to see more of the gold as I'm going to give it a shot myself soon enough. All in all, looking really good.

Actually gold is much easier to achieve. The colors are easier to blend, considering most people have to use similar colors more often. Flesh tone, its basis, Brown. Gold NMM, its basis, Brown. The only difference is the highlight points, which are difficult to understand. I havent found any tutorials that explain gold NMM simple enough. The tutorials never really get to the point.

Are you using GW, Vallejo, or another brand for your paints?

I wanted the old blood angels colors. The new Gold all over is a bit too much.

I use both Vallejo and GW, i use Vallejo for the more lighter colors because lets face it the consistency is phenomenal compared to GW. But for the base color of gold NMM i use scorched brown, Followed by bestial brown, Bestial being the more golden of the two and the primarily used color for the whole process.

I really like the red - prefer it so much to the extreme highlight way some people advocate, it's much more sophisticated and realistic. Looking forward to seeing how these turn out (excellent i'm sure!)

Secondly, Wow, great model you have there brush_slip, loving the reds. Have you given a thought to colours for the wings? Will they be in realistic colours too?

Looking good dude, your NMM is a damn sight better than what I can do.....

But I like your color scheme of not using all gold armor, no matter how much I get shown it, I just can't come to terms with liking that much gold.... it's just wrong! I think your red version looks much, much better ^^
