Hi, just back from Salute 2010 in Excel London - saw these while in the Black Library area.

The first, Garro, seems to be CD size, so another audio book, and the cover of The First Heretic features Custodes and Daemons in combat.

What on earth could Garro be about?

And don't say 'Garro', because that's freaking obvious. Isn't his story already told? Or is this before he chose to not join the rest of his Legion in heresy? Or maybe after? Or the founding of the Grey Knights (if that is indeed where Garro ended up).

And Custodes in the other book. Don't see them too often.

I think Garro is going to be what happened to him AFTER he arrived on Terra with word of the traitorous actions of his, and others, Legion(s)...

But. I'll have to wait for spoiler filled reviews once it is released, as I can't say I'm a fan of audio books and I'd rather not support sales of such in favor of print editions!

Garro is mostly the result of BL and James hearing from fans that they really liked Garro, so more material must be produced to cash in on this.

And yes, he will start the Grey Knights, that was the cryptic hint at the end.

Well The First Heretic looks great. As HBMC said, don't see custodes too often, Dembski-Bowden's a good author and the front cover looks great in my opinion.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

If you meet him in person and he's signing your books, ask him why it takes so long to sign each book. It was something the BL rep did most of the time at the Frenzy.

As for the "What could garro, Oath of Moments" be about question, there was rampant speculation that garro and his fellow survivors from the escape from istvaan form the beginning core of the =][=...

Malicant the Sigilite called the four of them to him with a "special mission" at the end of the Flight of the Eisenstein

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

Are the audio books ever also released in paperback?

My days of stories being read to me ended when I was five. I want a real book in hand.

Only on special occasions will the audio books be transcribed into actual paper.

I just want them to release audiobooks via iTunes.

Is that too much to ask?

Apparently, yes?

Though that is a very good idea!

I think they're worried about the "ease of piracy" issue if/when that happens.

It probably has nothing to do with piracy--more with how much Apple charges to stock the stuff.

The Dresden Files' latest novel "Changes" had an audio version that was set to release, and at the last second--Apple bumped the preorder price from $9.99 to $39.99.

While they did that, they also increased the cost for the publisher to have the audio version available--which ended with the publisher telling Apple to feth off, pulling all their audio content from Apple and moving to Kindle/Amazon.

Garro is how he became the first Inquisitor, as confirmed by an interview Swallow did a while back.

I'm pretty sure towards the end of Flight of the Eisenstein Malicant the Sigilite said we can use some inquisitive people like you, so he could found the Inquisition, or Grey Knights.
Besides weren't there 3 people who originally founded one of those two?

What a terrible world we live in where the artwork resembles the miniatures!

I always hated it when the pictures didn't match the miniatures.

Heh, that's what I was thinking, too. I don't think, the cover is horrible, although it's not really one of the best HH covers.

As for the book itself - after Cadian Blood and Soul Hunter, I'm basically buying everything with the name Dembski-Bowden on it.

I kind of liked the audio books I've heard so far. Thunder From Fenris was enjoyable in spite of my raving antipathy towards anything concerning Space Wolves. The plot of Raven's Flight was a bit inconsequential but the story was rather nice mood-wise - I liked both of the books especially because of Toby Longworth's performance.

Too bad the cover didn't replicate the older miniatures, they were boss (Adjust your sarcasm detector if you took me serious upon first reading);

Am I the only person who feels that marines who have only just turned to chaos should not look identical to ones who have been stuck in the Eye of Terror for 10,000 years?

Its as if turning to Chaos gives an option of pressing an iMutate button that turns the marine in question into something that looks remarkably similar to all the other mutations...

Or maybe I'm just missing the old Realm of Chaos days when mutations genuinely were random (d1000 tables anyone? ) and it took long, slow, painful years to mutate fully unless a god intervened.

Good times

There was nothing in the demonic pact that stated you'd mutate into anything original. Read your contract better next time....
