French Gamesday 2010 - Scrap Demon winning entry : what would YOU do with it?!?
Just remove the mould lines
Try to make the mini details stand out by an undercoat + wash (or other solution - post in)
Paint it as best as you can - after, this is what these paint pots are for!
Don't touch anything : it won the Scrap Demon by itself, and should be left as crude and messy as it is
any other funky idea (apart from "smash it against the wall") - write in

Hello, fellow Dakkaites,

I've unexpectedly won the 2010 French Gamesday Scrap Demon contest, and I'm now left with this cool - but grey & messy - mini on my shelf...
For those who don't know the deal, this is a small and funny competition where a GW guy gives you a few random sprues, and you have to try and make a complete mini out of them - quite exhilarating, actually!!

I was tasked with creating a MegaNob, which turned out eventually as a MekanOrk, but still...

Or, for a closer look:

I imagined this sort of duel between a poor Dark Eldar on the brink of getting crushed but still desperately struggling against his overwhelming foe, and a fierce kustomized & mekanized Ork Chieftain, clad in a crude walker and dedicated to terminating his victim's life.

My concern now is:

Should I leave it that way, with the big ugly mould lines and glue stains, or should I trim & paint it to a neat standard?

(Knowing I only have 1 other Ork, the one issued with a WD )

Please let me know your opinion & ideas, so that I can finally make up my mind...

Thanks,
Yggdrasil

It's a great model, so I suggest tidying it up and painting it!

Enter it into the Golden Demon 'duel' category next year

Nice idea, but... my painting skills aren't up to this daunting task (just check out my gallery and you'll know!)

Thanks anyway for your opinion, I think maybe after a dozen or so answers, I'll decide...

The model looks great. I think you should clean it up and if you don't want to paint it then sell it on ebay for a hefty price.

I would sell it on ebay, or paint it and enter it into a golden deamon dule catogery.

Thanks, dude!!! But I really don't think I'm up to it... I mean, I lack a lot of skill and technique for now... And I... have no "gift", I cannot draw anything properly, my freehands are quite dull... Come on, seriously...

Erh... There's something here that I don't get...

Would you really pay for my mini on e-bay?!?

How much do you think it's worth? 5$??

Don't you think the emotional value is greater than the few bucks I could (maybe) get?

Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty happy of what you mean by suggesting I could get some money from it, it's just... I hadn't even imagined that possibility!!!

So, who would bid on it?

If there is an Ork player among your friends, I suggest you wait for the new Dark Eldar codex release and offer him this mini !

This mini was made to remind DE players they're playing the wrong army

Actually, this idea struck me while I was building it:

I'm pretty sure the Dark Eldars are the most viktimized race of all WH40k!!

Indeed, a lot of players have bought the 4th (???) edition boxed set and went playing the regular Space Marines...

So what to do with all these useless piece of junk known as the DE??? Yes, you got it : trophies, victims, sacrifices!!!

(My apologies to the DE players out there... there are indeed a few models worth it in the army, but one has to admit they're pretty scarce).

I say you clean it up and paint it. It's snazzy. Hell, you won an award with it - it deserves some extra love. If you don't think you can do it justice, clean it up and shelve it until you improve. You could always send it off to a commission painter, but I'd keep it in-house, if it were my creation.

Definitely, don't you think that if you can win the scrap demon with an ork mini you should make orks?
I do and I'm sure it would be awesome.

Ok, so everyone agrees on, at least, cleaning it up...

Am I really the only one thinking that cleaning it and painting it would (kinda) ruin the raw "beauty" it has?

I guess I'm acting like no other would do, and I'm on the brink of being convinced to paint it...

Actually, I've been fond of Orks for a long time, and the last range is pretty awesome, but... I still have to get on with my traitor IG, my Nurgle CSM, finish my daemons, start my skavens & goblins armies...

The only Ork I ever painted was the one offered with a WD issue, back when AoBR was released (with some minor conversions):

And I really enjoyed it! But I guess I'll have to wait a bit more...
