My advice is to either

A) Show us pictures of your problem
B) Describe your problem

As it stands, you've told us nothing we could possibly use to help you.

^ I agree, Get some photos to show us how you have done on your first head sculpt.

From that we can get a pretty good idea of how to help you improve ! Like the old Sensai says A pictures speaks a thousand words.

Faces are one of the hardest aspects of sculpting. Im not sure what your level of art education/training is, but if you look up ways of sculpting faces in traditional methods- like using clay for busts, many of those techniques can be scaled down.

Tell me about it. I've spent a ton of time trying to sculpt faces and my best one looks like a frog. Skulls are even harder though.

If you want some guidance I'll throw a few thoughts at you, please take it as advice and not some kind of personal attack or what have you. First off get your self some reference material. Use google to find pictures in the pose you want or get friends to pose for you. If you want to learn to sculpt you must study form and anatomy and learn to observe closely. I take it you were going for the busty beauty type for your sculpt. I'm afraid this is way off. Looks like a dumpy dowdy type with big knockers. What you should try is drawing a concept picture to actual size and reference your sculpt to it continually this will allow you to monitor proportions. A common mistake when you are starting to learn is to put too much putty on and trust me you have got wayyy too much putty on there fella. Very blobby.Try trimming it down and resculpting it smaller. You need to put wrinkles and folds in the clothes to make it look convincing, the split in the skirt is very untidy and the shape of the legs doesn't convince me there are slender sexy legs under there!!! It looks like you dressed a mini in extra putty which is another bad thing to do. The best way to do it is to simply add lines of putty near the edges of the sleeve and neckline and so on and blend it back into the rest of the clothes. The face is not really finished, there are no eyes and no facial features properly sculpted so you should practice more as they are very hard to do at this scale. Don't be put off by what I have said, my first mini wasn't that great either. with proper study you will enjoy it more, I am still learning myself and find it very enjoyable. So keep practicing on these points and do more sculpts!!

Hope that helps you out a bit mate

More of a barmaid than a priestess?

Anyway, on to serious business. I would agree with the chap above, some reference material would be invaluable in your quest. Otherwise, it's actually pretty good. Just a few tweaks and shifts, and it should be a very good sculpt. Face is a little blank, though.

I think it looks a hell of a lot better than I could do, keep working at it and following the tips given thus far, and it will look superb!

Throw enough Goblins at anything and it should go away, at the very least there will be less Goblins.

no problem mate, just keep at it and set yourself goals individually, dont try and be brilliant all in one go either, it is tough to master so practice different elements seperately, do some practice heads on bits of wire, maybe pratics folds on a cloak. it might be easier that way. good job for a first one in general though!

This looks really nice, especially for how futzy sculpting ex-nihilo can be.

My only problem is the vision (rather than the execution). Right now this looks like you're making a mage for WHFB, not a priest for WH40k. 40k models need more than just a robe and a staff, they need armor bitz, mechanical things, guns, grenades, etc. I mean, I know you're going to add a lot of this detail-work on later, but until it does get added, it's going to look sort of inappropriate for a 40k model.

Thanks.
I know it´s look like a mage, but I´m going to add holster and of course that chainaxe head to the pole.

That's way better then I could do in that medium and at that scale. I do alright with Sculpey, but GS just kills me.

Its gettin there, little improvements are showing up as you add layers.

Alot of people get discouraged with sculpting when they cant get the results they want right away.

This is obviously a 'learning' sculpt, and its showing alot of potential.

Some little details that might also help- look at some of the Space Wolf conversion tutorials out there- I cant remember where I saw it- but someone had a nice easy way to do braided hair which would add to what you've got going on this fig.

Consider using a piece of rod or tubing for the haft of the evicserator. Alot of pro sculptors do that since its really difficult to sculpt that kind of shape with green stuff.

And dont forget the preistly doodads, scrolls, and a Rosarius come to mind. And if you arent up to free sculpting those yet- making a 'press mold' for stuff like that makes it alot easier ^_^

Here´s the priestness with some scrolls and Axe. I know that the scroll on the hip is too thick, but i think the axe is great.

Bravo! Much better 2nd attempt, you have slimmed her down and she looks like a figure now. I like the first picture of the second attempt better though. Now you have done some improved details they have brought some further problems into the sculpt. Blades and sharp edged detail are better sculpted in milliputt where it can be sanded and cut to a better effect. rarely will you see weapon blades made from greenstuff. Look at some of the avatars of war green masters. The weapon blades are white. This is either plasticard or superfine milliputt - not sure. Don't attempt blades in greenstuff, it wont work as easily. The scrolls and stuff need less putty, looks very blobby, so I would redo those to get a more realistic look. remember the saying "less putty is more!". Paper is thin. To cut teeth into the blade use a triangular file on superfine milliputt/plastic card. The face is very much improved, looks brilliant for a second attempt. Keep going, thin those edges down, use plastic card/milliputt for weapon blades and brass rod as someone else said for the shaft of the weapon with a very thin layer of putty on if you need to sculpt texture. Getting better in a real quick space of time.

I like your attempts at this. It inspires me to try out modeling from scratch one of these days...

Did you ever get around to painting and finalizing this model?

Check out my Project (B)log! I would love any suggestion or comments you may have.

Sorry for necroing this thread, I just didn't think it was TOO old, and I personally wanted to see the final result, as I'm sure others might as well?

So if you get the chance and feel inclined, please do post a picture!
