Hey folks! I'm hosting a free for all on Vassal tomorrow, probably around noon EST. The sadistic Dark Eldar have prepared an arena where their tortured prisoners will fight in a free-for-all battle to the death. Only the last survivor in gruesome pit will earn their freedom, and something else…

Army Size: 350 points, HQ choice only – no special characters allowed, nor vehicles or bikes.
For armies without a retinue, you may bring one of the following as a retinue:
Chaos: Chosen
Necron: Pariah
Sisters: Celestians
Orks: Nobs
Other: Whatever your elite “bodyguard-looking” unit is.

This is a Free for All, Last Man Standing tournament

Each turn, players all roll D20 to determine player turn order.
+1 point for killing any model, for each model killed.
+2 points for killing any model in close combat.
+5 for finishing off an enemy unit.

Crowd Pleaser points may be spent to add +1 to any combat resolution, or to increase a player’s D20 initiative roll (declared before the roll)


The last HQ unit on the board is the winner.
All units are fearless for the duration of the Boss Battle.
The Brawl is not turn-based, but ends when there is only one HQ surviving.

Other Details

For the TO: You can fit up to 12 people on a single table if you must; optimal size is nine or less with players spread evenly around the outside edges.

If multiple tables are required, the winners of each table(s) face off against each other in a death match.

I'll either do chaos or daemonhunters (for my love for them).

Should the dakkites put their lists up beforehand? So you can determine if something is legal or not, I remember we had to wait a bit last time, since someone tried to have bikes!

And for those of you reading this....

Last time, Inquisitor's warlock council with their rerollable saves and my Tau commander and his retinue were the last two on the table - Inquisitor mowed through multiple HQs and simply refused to die. He assaulted into my Tau - 7 warlocks and a farseer against a Shas'o and two battlesuits - and over the course of three rounds of combat, he epically failed saves, rerolls, lost combat, and ultimately lost his HQ. It was amazing.

HEY! In all fairness, it was only 6 warlocks and the farseer!

So, how did everyone do / what was the result?

Dash won, I tied for 3rd, me and a GKGM killing my Khorne Lord. Black Templars with two assault cannons placed second.

Yep- and, oddly, the BT chaplain and terms couldn't finish the job in HtH. Shooting was great though.

I wasn't planning on playing, but due to the holiday likely, we only had 7 players so I jumped in to help fill up the table.

On a 6x4 board, here's what was on the table:

3 and 7 apparently made an agreement at the start of the game to kill my Dark Eldar. =p Since Tau always win these things, I was egging on everyone else to unite against the Tau.

SW(6) went after Tau(7).
BT(2) went after Tau(3). Tau spent a couple turns shooting at BT, got surprised by Righteous Zeal, got assaulted and killed.
Grey Knights(5) and Chaos(1) moved towards the middle for a few turns; the whole board shifted to the right. They eventually turned towards each other and killed each other. Came down to Grey Knight IC vs. Chaos Lord with Khorne Daemon weapon killing each other at the exact same time (same initiative) after their respective retinues were killed.

Dark Eldar (me) went after Tau(7). I got caught in the open after a bad fleet movement, and despite wanting to focus on the Tau, had to assault SW(6) or be stuck in the open to get shot by Tau. Locked up SW in combat for a turn so the Tau couldn't shoot me. Ended up killing the SW with no casualties (invul saves yay!) consolidating 6", then getting 6" move, 5" fleet, and making it into assault with the Tau. They died too.

At this point in the game there were 4 players on the board - the Grey Knights, chaos, BT and DE. Since the GK and Chaos were moving towards the middle, I thought they were going to go kill the BT player, so I went to ground to hold out against the BT player who was shooting at me with 2x assault cannons and 2x storm bolters. Lost a few wyches. Then they turned on each other, so I had to try for it. Next turn I rolled double 1s for my move, a 2" fleet and was stuck in the same cover. BT player killed a couple more wyches. Next turn I move and fleet into the next cover, lose a wych. Next turn I got to go first, and he ended up being JUST inside assault range, but all I had was my archite, a succubus, and a wych. 3 wyches vs 4 terminators and a chaplain.

He whiffed his attacks, I killed a terminator. He whiffed his attacks, I attacked and he made all invul saves. He whiffed his attacks (can't roll a 4+ for the life of him) and I killed a terminator. He causes two wounds and I make two invul saves, and I wound his chaplain and kill a terminator. Next round he loses both and I miraculously win the boss battle with foot slogging DE wyches. *laughing*

Sounded like fun!

Once I get a handle on vassal and some time, will definately try things like this out!

It's actually quite intuitive once you get in-game. That was my second game, and I didn't make too many glaring errors.

It definitely helps to play a round with people who know what they're doing- they can point out some of the most commonly used keyboard shortcuts, making for a much smoother game then my first one was.
