Sorry, but those two guys are brilliant.

Just... characterful, busy, delicious looking models. I hadn't seen your work before, now I want more and more. (Like a drug?)

Good luck, I'm looking forward to progress.

Peace.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

...and progress there is..

After seeing Modhail's new tech-savant, I knew I had to break out the bitz and get to buildin' to reply in kind..

I'm tending towards an Outfit that is mostly doing runs for the Tau, or other non-human Eastern Fringeworlders. In as much, some roles are going to be filled by other races such as..

Ouuparchi, the Frell.
Seen here looking through cargo with his crafted autolumen, whilst musing over the labels and possible contents within..

Ouuparchi is an avid explorer and collector of alien ornaments, technology and artifacts. His skill in seeking out prize salvage, separating the valuable from the scrap piles quickly, keeps him firmly fixed as part of the 'Grab' team. Among the Hound's he's known as 'O.K.', due to the Frell's classic expression, amidst broken low-gothic;
"Ooooii-kay-kay.." A sure sign he's found something exceptionally nice.

Overall for a Frell, Ouuparchi is pretty adventurous. Most collectors remain in their home system, sending others on errands or buying off passing trade ships, such as Imperial Rogue Traders, whom also thoroughly enjoy calling into a Frell Tradeport. It is the gamut of artifacts and technologies that make Ouuparchi so valuable to the crew. He has a wide knowledge of the many alien vessels in the region and a quick witted learning curve when figuring out controls and overrides of such vessels. Onboard their ship, his quarters have become a hoarded nest of collected gadgets, widgets and artifacts. Each with a place and purpose or a price tag for when he gets back home.

Being a Frell, Ouuparchi is a slightly stooped and lanky humanoid. His extremities are leathery and quite resilient, allowing him to withstand near vacuum conditions for limited periods. Most times, Ouuparchi usually wears is a set of goggles to protect his eyes once a Hulk has been declared "safe", otherwise he has a face mask in a hipbag. Since decompression is not an immediate threat, Ouuparchi is pretty casual about his chances. Equipment wise, he has his own enviro-shell, which has been modded with some more hardy Voidsuit components. He also sports a heavy duty winch, which can be detached for hauling finds, or moving between gantry levels within a Hulk.

Among various other pieces of kit, the most notable is a hefty sidearm. No one has seen the weapon, or witness him use it. But judging by how well Ouuparchi handles his other gadgets, with a confident attitude whilst exploring Hulks, they figure it can wait till some Hulk lurker finds out.

Overall, Ouuparchi is a pretty convivial member of the team, and most get along with him pretty easily, or they just give up trying to understand him and simply nod and smile.

Ill start painting him soon enough, still undecided on skin tones etc.

Spectacular alien Shas! That is a seriously creative alien species. I've never heard of Frell, so I think it's a race of your own design, which I commend you for. It would be nice if they included more information about the lesser races of the galaxy...I remember material about it in the 3rd edition, but it seems like obscure races are left mainly to being auxiliaries for the Tau nowadays.

Thumbs up on the Frell, any plans on other exotic alien species?

Very, very nice. I really like him, he reminds me of the scientist guy in Titan A.E.

And that´s meant in a good way.

Thanks guys, some heartening feedback indeed.

I really enjoy just making up races for my Tau cadre as auxiliary or bystanders needing rescue. I have a few other ideas, but when I saw a Gnoblar head as I was browsing for bits.. I couldn't bare the wait of delivery almost.

So yes, the Frell are homegrown, the inspiration being Xanthos/Modhail's Voidsuits and Mod's Savant. This add with a touch of Dark Crystal, quite probably a shake of Titan AE (The turtle scientist) and a wombling mental image of the Fifth Element alien encounter suits in the Egypt temple scene.

..still wracking my mind for a believable skin colour..

This one looks and souds like it could have evolved from one of my favourite TV-series from my childhood Fraggle Rock. I can hear the tune in my head as I write :-) I love the amount of creativity you put into the backstory.

Sweet Shas'la! That is an amazing conversion Tael!

I am loving this modeling arms race you and Modhail are having. It's a joy to sit here on the side lines and watch what you two are creating!

I think you should paint him pink like a Clanger. ;p

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

That, that......
How am I ever going to top, or even match, that?

Impressive, most impressive, Tael.
I just love him!
(And here's me, not even started the greenstuff on the Sage...)
Darn, I had intended my crew to remain all human, because they would most likely be operating within view of the Inquisition.
But seeing this I might need to make some extras or stowaways now...

very cool. I love his kit. If you go the way of orange of creams, maybe think about some sort of skin spots like liver spots on his head and back side of his hands of even exotic lepard cheeta like ones. Though I like the idea of rhino grey.

Stunning, simply stunning..

Amazing job on the Xenos, Tael. I really like that he's heavily equipped, I for one am always a big fan of details like these.
As for the colour of the skin, a dull realistic orange sounds great. Maybe something similar to Jar Jar Binks?

Looking forward to see him (or it?) painted!

Thanks guys

I thundered through this conversion, so there are no WiP shots at all. Essentially, he is put together with a Marine torso shaven down, the 'back' is now stuck on at OK's torso, which gave me that rounded shoulder line. However this left a gaping hole where the original waistline was (now OK's back).. so I filled that with a Dark Eldar torso, abdomen in the hole flipped over, to use the rounded back to match the lines of the shoulders. After that.. it just started falling into place quickly, such as fitting the porta-winch etc.

His hands? They're from the Zombie plastics range with a digit removed. The feet are Kroot parts.

Ideas on painting him?.. I'm leaning towards a sombre orange, the JarJar reference is actually a good source idea. I'll avoid too much brown or grey as his gear will be similar hues to the Hounds due to sharing some Voidsuit parts. I enjoy doing liver spots on my aliens, you can see in my Avatar and on any bare headed tau in my own cadre. Be assured, a similar treatment awaits O.K.

Updates on painting shortly. thanks for the comments and ideas!

I love the new race. These are the types of corners that =][=munda really needs to be exploring more of. And exactly the direction I myself feel compelled to venture.

Fantastic work on OK, I got the Titan AE vibe right off the bat as well.

Bravo on creating a fantastic new race for a fantastic boarding crew. Keep these up.

Not completely finished (a handful of touch ups etc).. but I couldn't ignore the great sunlight today for a natural light shoot. Largely, OK is done
Mostly, I am curious if folks find a liking for the choice of skin tones?

Once I have a large enough group, I'll begin to develop the look of the bases. Also, I've got to figure out a successful method to painting torches..chuckle.

Going to finish off some Fleet personnel now..
