Hi guys!

So.. like most of the people here at Dakka, I've been inspired by all these great =I=munda blogs here! I've been planning to do a gang myself for some time, and finally got the bits and time to finally start some of the gang members. The idea for the gang was to make a Radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor with his henchmen, seeing the =I= is Radical I had the idea to include Xenos. The warband is relatively high-tech compared to the other Ordo's who look medieval in some way. My Inquisitor and his henchmen are followers of the so-called "Xeno Hybris" philosophy;
Lexicanum wrote:Xeno Hybris followers believe that there is much to be learned from alien technology, and only through co-operation with Xenos species will humanity ever prevail.

Here are some pictures of what I've done so far. From the left to the right:
- A Renegade Tau Pathfinder with a custom "Fusion Rifle", he obviously is still a WiP. He'll receive some further details, like a scope on his weapon, a left arm holding the weapon, shoulderpad detail and some minor GS'ing..
- A Kroot Mercenary with bionic eye, he's also a WiP and will receive a custom Repeater Crossbow with Krakenbolt rounds. Also a left bionic arm to hold the weapon.
- A Deathwatch Marine formerly from the Scythes of the Emperor chapter. He'll get a fully detailed left shoulderpad with Deathwatch and =I= relics all over it. The right shoulderpad will get the icon of the Scythes of the Emperor chapter, obviously.

I'm not sure if I'd go completely crazy with =I= symbols on the Xenos.. would it be appropriate?

The rest of the warband will be something like this;
- An Inquisitor (obviously ) - I have no clue on what miniature I'm going to base the conversion on.
- A personal Servo-skull for the =I= - I'm thinking of converting a Genestealer skull to a Servo-skull, or using the servo from Solomon Lok?
- Some sort of Psyker - I'm thinking something like an Empath or maybe a Tyrannic Hive Mind fighter?
- A pet for the Kroot Mercenary - a Kroot Bird! (the Ltd. Edition FW Kroot Bird that is. )

Phew, that's it for now folks! Comments, criticism, idea's are always welcome!

Cheers!

Cool start, Pfreck, I'm anxious how this develops. There's already some ideas I'm going to steal for some other remote project of mine

I really like the work on the Space Marine, he looks way neater than mine.

Great start man, all three look fantastic so far! Makes me want to get around to doing some Kroot like I have been planning for months, so many ideas so little time!

The only thing I would question is: Would a DW marine really be comfortable working with xenos?

Really looking forward to seeing this develop!

@ Ghost in the Darkness - I think it's a corsair cloak.

Cheers,

Nice start! Is that a Terminator chest plate on him? Inventive!

I also have some minor fluff reservations, but then TAU and Kroot at their side are the most likely options...orks etc. would be OTT

There have been fluff bits indicating that orks sell out as mercenaries from time to time... maybe a grot mechanic/driver would be more appropriate?

Great, another =I=Munda log!

The Space Marine looks good, but those two Xenos are really exciting! The Tau especially, I like the somewhat cold, cynical air he has.
Have you thought about adding non-armybook aliens that are mentioned in the background, like the Hrud or K'nib?
For the Psyker, how about a Nicassar? (An alien race mentioned in BFG, they had some ships for the Tau fleet. I don't know if there was ever a physical description...)

If you are going to include an Ork in there, let him be this Blood Axe bodyguard with kind of German WWII tank crew clothes. An Ork choppa (big chainsword looking one) but with an Imperial eagle or =I= on it.

I hope to see this guy have a big crew in the long run. This means that if you were to play =I=munda you could change your warband whenever you need certain figures. Kind of fits with the storyline as well. Include some humans in there, not just one human and tons of xenos/mutants/marines.

You might even have another Eldar in your team (needed a psyker right?) but perhaps an Eldar Outcast would be more fitting, sort of as the ships navigator or a sniper?

I am very impressed with the Tau as you have made him more dynamic than the average bear;-) The Kroot shows promise- looking forward to the crossbow and the marine is a very competent!!

Looks great Pfreck, really liking the pose of the Tau to be honest

Using an ungor head as a conversion base really gives a more grim mood to tau head pieces, smoothly executed too

I like the kroot, but verdict is out whilst you flesh out his pose presently, however the marine is a nice take on the larger scale sizing. When I was shopping for bits (which arrived today yay!) I considered a Terminator chestplate instead of the bulking up technique Apologist and Migsula use.. I think I might just order one now and compare!

As for Xeno's and =I= badges? hmmm... might have to hit up a friend with Inquisitor RP book and read upon Inquisitors who use aliens in their retinue. If you're going all out, a Hrud might be cool as shadowed scout character who slinks about eavesdropping and perhaps being a sniper with his Jezzail ?

Looking forward to updates as you progress

EDIT - Repeater Crossbow with Krakenbolt rounds

Hahahah.. was just looking at a very very old plastic crossbow piece I found in my bitz box tonight.. thought to myself.. ooooh hi-tech bowcaster ala' Wookie style.. hahaha

Looking great! On the subject of Xenos wearing an Inquisitorial sigil, in the Inquisitor Sketchbook, John Blanche painted a Sanctioned Alien Bounty Hunter, and he did wear an =I= sigil. Blanche called it an "Inquisition Seal of Sanctioned Enlistment". So In a word, yes, your Xenos could definitly wear the thrice barred sigil on their person.

Sorry for the slight delay on the reply guys.. thanks a lot for all the comments!

I really need to write a small background story about my warband, to make everything a bit more clearer to everyone. Basically, the warband members are trained to fight any kind of Genestealer infestation. The Deathwatch Marine is the last remaining member of my Inquisitors killteam, seeing he was formerly from the Scythes of the Emperor chapter he still has an eternal hatred against all things Tyranid. He will do anything to take vengeance for his fallen brothers, even by cooperating with Xenos. I'm not sure if this makes it a bit more clear.. but I really suck at writing fluff unfortunately..

As for the miniatures, no picture updates yet.. I'm currently working on the Kroot Mercenary, his weapon is near completion - so I'll try to make some pictures of his current state soon-ish.

Ghost in the Darkness wrote:I like em. What did you make the cloak on the Tau from.
The cloak is from the new Dark Elf Corsairs. I removed all the scales from the cloak and resculpted it slightly.

Danku!
I was thinking about adding some different aliens as well. The thing is, that most of these races don't have any good artwork to get idea's from. It's hard to make a miniature from something that only has two sentences of fluff in a story.. Hope that makes any sense?

Malika2 wrote:If you are going to include an Ork in there, let him be this Blood Axe bodyguard with kind of German WWII tank crew clothes. An Ork choppa (big chainsword looking one) but with an Imperial eagle or =I= on it.
Cheers Malika.
No Orks will ever be in my team though, I just find that Orks are not really a subtle race. My team mostly exists of Xenos that can be negotiated with, or are willing to be in service for a human.

Thanks Tael, comments from you always keep me motivated!
I actually do have a copy of Dark Heresy as well, it's a great book and has loads of inspiration for human characters in it - as well as weapons! There isn't much stuff in it about Xenos and Ordo Xenos though. I heared they released an expansion called "Creatures Anathema" which includes lots of Xenos and Xenos weapons! Might be worth to pick up sometime for me.

Cheers Streusel, dammit.. now I really regret that I gave my Inquisitor Sketchbook to a mate of mine.. I'm not a big fan of Blanche's work anyway, I find his old style a lot better - his new stuff are looking like unfinished doodles to me!
The book might have been nice to draw maybe even a tiny bit of inspiration.. ah well!

Thanks again guys! Hopefully there will be an update coming this week!

heres a pic of my favourite race the hrud

now make one, heres some background

Technology
Hrud technology is often scavenged from other races. A weapon of their own development is the Hrud fusil, a weapon based on warp-plasma technology.

Physiology and Biology

It seems that the Hrud prefer darkness and are basically scavengers and tunnel-dwellers. They are found all over the galaxy, though never in large numbers. They are considered to be parasites, and when they are referred to it is usually as "infesting" a place.

Observing a Hrud is often difficult even within a well light room due to a distortion field of unknown origin emanating from the Hrud that prevents the eye from focusing on it. In addition the limbs of a Hrud have a bone structure similar to the human spine allowing the limbs to bend in any direction (hence the nickname "bendies"). They also exude various poisons from their skin. Their bodies liquefy rapidly upon death - conveniently making detailing the creature impossible.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys!

DarkSaint; thanks for the picture and fluff! I remembered that picture from somewhere.. Imho this concept of the Hrud looks a bit too evil for my taste..

Malika; I was thinking about making a female Inquisitor as well. I like the idea a lot, but it'd be hard to make one without her looking too much like a Battle Sister..

Anyway, a smallish update! I worked some more on the Kroot Merc, I added his weapon (obviously still WIP ) and another kneepad. Everything is still blu-tacked..

That kroot crossbow reminds me of a wookie bowcaster, which is quite awesome in my opinion.

This blog is off to a great start, I love how everyone takes =I= in different and interesting directions.

I was under the opinion that Hrud were space-skaven, but I may be confusing that with something else.

Anyway, great start and I'm definitely adding this to my list of great =I= blogs

That picture is a Hrud from the Xenology book that Black Library released. That's what they look like after you peel back all of the trash that they wrap around themselves. That book is actually one of the best background books that they used to put out.

Yeah, you're right on that....huh, well I think that Hrud started out as space-skaven, but since GW wanted to differentiate from 40k being Warhammer-in-Space (cue Lost-in-Space music), they left Hrud alone and with only that picture from the 3rd edition of "dangerous aliens", so I think at that point they were more rat-like. But it looks like Xenology shifted them towards this appearance.

Still, I think a lot of people associate them with looking like rats, so I can see where the confusion is coming from (including my own confusion on the matter)

According to The Gothic and The Eldritch, skaven were originally intended to be a 40k race hence some of the high tech old mini's. It was a last minute decision to make them fantasy.

To be honest, I prefer the 3rd edition take on Hrud, that thing just looks like some type of sea life and a bit lame. The shapes and lines don't seem to fit with GW or 40k imagery IMHO.

Rise, my thread. RISE!

Ahem, so yeah.. I haven't been doing anything on my Gang for over a year now, and finally got back to them. I haven't done much really, but I'm getting on the right track..
Unfortunately for this project I'll be staying in Joensuu, Finland for the coming 10 weeks for internship. I'll be leaving tomorrow, so this is really all you guys get for 10 weeks - I'm sorry! I really can't bother to bring my hobby stuff with me, because I only have a 20 KG limit for my suitcase..

Anyways, onto some pics!

First of all, I worked a bit more on my Kroot Mercenary. I have him a Bionic arm, still got to do the hand though which will be the toughest part.

Next is a really, really, REALLY early WIP shot of my Eldar Pirate/Corsair. He'll be some kind of Duelist of Assassin. He'll be mainly based on DE Corsair parts minus the cloak..

And lastly, I just picked this up last week. It really is an amazing book with a lot of great fluff in it. There's a part where the Xeno Hybris are described as well, which is very awesome indeed!

Here's some idea's for how the gang eventually will look like;

Radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor
- Wraithbone Augmented Sword, Fusil Pistol(?), Heavy/Power Armour.

Kroot Mercenary
- Crossbow; Krakenbolt rounds, Bionic Arm & Eye, Flak Armour.

Hrud Warrior
- Hrud Fusil (Plasma weapon), Infra-red Goggles, Flak Armour.

Tau Renegade
- Fusion Rifle(?), Chameleon cloak, Carapace Armour.

Eldar Pirate
- Duelist/Assassin w/ Brace of Shuriken Pistols(?), Climbing Hooks.

Empath Psyker
- Staff of some sort(?)

Void Born Veteran
- Void-suit, Shotgun.

Tarellian Dog-soldier(?)
- (?)

Jokaero Warrior(?)
- Digital Weapons

That's it for now, C&C are appreciated as usual!

Cheers!
