Ive only just come accross this thread (ive not been on site for a while) i have very mixed feelings about this - i like what youve done but im a bit pissed that mine has been sitting on a shelf for over a year in its very early stages and now when (if?) i eventually do it youve stolen my "Tadaa!" moment!
Will look forward to seeing it finished and stood in the middle of your army.
For UK members i picked mine up for £5 at poundstreacher.
For anyone thinking of getting one it is bigger than forge worlds version.

This is awesome. It's gonna look great when it's all finished. Good job on the GS armor covering that trunk.

Make sure you GS that seam on the underside of the trunk, though! It would be a shame to get all this looking badass and then paint it up and find that seam sticking out, taunting you for all eternity...

Ok, im claiming a win here.
I checked in about three weeks ago and was dissapointed that there was no update (even though ive seen slightly more updated pics of that same model elsewhere during my searches) so i got mine off the shelf and started converting and painting and the model is finished apart from a few small details that will be done when i find the bits out.
Its not Golden Demon and the pics are only rough snaps but look in the blog section under "Bertie" the Mammoth.

Come on op lets see updates.

How the hell do you paint something so big? You could probably put a saddle on it and ride it yourself.

Howdah needs more khorne-ish metal skies, chains, etc...other than that its looking awesome.

Fun to build, but after the base coats not so fun to paint especially when your painting under a crappy low energy bulb.

I was thinking of adding some banners hanging down the lizard skin areas, i put one on the back but one on each side would be ok though.
I agree some chains and such would add some detail to break up some areas.

OP, did you ever finish your mammoth? I realize this thread hasn't been updated in quite a while but it inspired me to attempt my own conversion none-the-less.

I too wanted a Forgeworld Chaos Mammoth but didn't want to shell out $360.26

Megahobby.com has the model for $26.33 shipped
http://www.megahobby.com/dawnoftimetuskwoollymammoth1-13revell.aspx

I figure even with conversion bits and a box of marauders I can keep my total cost at less than $75

I dont know what happened to the op, i did see his model in a more advanced state during a google search but that was a while ago now.
For a model this size i think you are better off with a unique model as it will define your army, so go the convertion route and get pics posted up.

I will definitely post pics of the process. Just waiting on my Revell "Tusk" model to show up.

The OP may be gone but without this thread I'd have never been inspired to start my own Chaos Mammoth, so I must thank him.

It should be an entertaining tragedy to watch come together since I've never used green stuff for more than gap filling.

I love this, I'm totally going to 'borrow' this idea

I was looking lovingly at the Fogreworld one the other day but it made my wallet weep actual tears
