Right I have now finished the building part of this model (apart from getting some filler on the roof ledge) and can now start on painting. However before I start painting this I'm going to start on another building which I recieved the plans kindly from aqan, made by Alan. I'm hoping to make some sort of Osgiliath board with these pieces, and once I've made a few more intact buildings, I shall have some ruins. I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Now I'm not too sure about this, does this look Gondor/Osgiliath enough? When painted the beams would be the same stone colour, not wooden supports but it looks sort of odd for a Gondor building.

Sorry I haven't been updating this thread regularly. Here's some progress on that smaller house and I'm also working on another model equally as large as the first one.

Looks good to me - not really up on the buildings in different regions, but if it were all painted as stone I think it would not be a problem.

@Silver - Cheers man, thank you for the regular support. You are one of the few who are interested in LotR.

Large Update - Comments and Criticisms are welcome

Sorry for large pics.. bit annoying I know - least you can see the detail I suppose

Some WIP pictures just for eye candy

Cheers

Wow! Amazing stuff, I saw the 3D render and had no idea you could replicate it to such a degree, fantastic!

Cheers guys. It was made using insulation board for walls that I bought at HomeBase. It's a foam sort of material that can easily take detail - perfect for building. Yes I was happy with the way the building came out, it even looks a little better than the sketchup plans as it looks a little thick on there. I'll get you more updates soon.

WOW! That's some great terrain! Seriously good stuff. Very impressive large terrain pieces, love that models can fight under the alcoves between pillars.

As for the paint scheme, I think to make it more like minas tirith, it needs a dark grey or brown roof, and the pillars should be the same white as the stone.
Like this pic of the model from the movie: (large pic)
Spoiler:

That brown green you have used reminds me of Rohan a bit.

Also subbed =)

Cheers for the compliments man, right I've taken your advice and gone for a more white/grey look. What you think? better? Instead of a brown roof a went for a grey with a hint of blue to represent slates. I've added some green as mold around the roof and some leaking down the side of the walls. It's starting to look more Minas Tirith like. I'll get into details more later. Yeah I wanted them to be fighting for every inch of buildings in the courtyard part and around.

I have a small update on the paint side of things as well. Got those archers all based and painted now so they're looking a lot better. Start on the Citadel guards by blocking in the armor area with Boltgun metal. Sorry the lighting in those pictures is not the best, please excuse.

Anyway, in painting terms I've been busy working on Citadel Guards. What cha think?

Small update: not sure if I'm happy with the roof though.. Think I made the arches too low as well, might restart - but it was just a very quick trial really.

@Silver: thanks man

I've set my eyes upon my next and final project. Time has flown by and since I'll be moving to university in 3 weeks I'll be no longer updating this thread. So I shall leave you with a Minas Tirith building to continue with my previous models. Slightly different design, but nothing complicated. I've just used Sketchup for the 3D models. It's a real pity that there is such a lack of interest in Lord of the Rings in the blog area, so I think I might move my thread into the LotR section as it might stir more interest there.

Update: I have finished the first wall section and so far it has turned out okay. The bricks are pretty awful as I didn't do them first, before I'd added the depth meaning it's a lot more difficult to score them in. I'll make sure I'll do that first time round on the next panel. It looks quite solid compare to my previous building, but tell me what you think.

Nice work, I like the new roof colour =) and the weathering really adds depth too.

And the new building seems just as good as your others, can't really see that much wrong with the bricks.

Happy moving!

Very nice work indeed.
Captures the spirit of the faction very well.

.. as per OP request going to move this to the LOTR board... I suspect it'll get more attention on the P & M boards, but we can always move it again if needs be.

keep up the good work !

Thank you . I'm heading down to Bournemouth to do the modelmaking course (which is pretty much as far away as you can get from here, since I live in the highlands). Can't wait to start uni though!

Very impressive stuff drum, looking forward to seeing more.

Apologies if I missed it, but is the point to basically build the entirety of Minas Tirith? That'd be a monster when it was all done!

Thank you, hopefully I'll get this new building done by next week. Well the original concept was to create a diorama, but I think I've moved on and I want to make a gaming board of either Osgiliath or Minas Tirith. Now I've often contemplated whether to build Minas Tirith (since I've already built Helm's Deep) but it would be on such a large scale. Because everything is measured to fit in with 28mm figures it would be even bigger than the WETA model they made for the films, lol. Now unless I have a hangar and lots of spare time, I think I'll have to pass at the moment (which is a real pity because I would LOVE to do it).
